Look around online and keep your eyes open and you can find some amazing deals. I found a 30 dollar burner @ Walmart on clearance because the box was open. No name brand, but it's worked absolutely marvelous for my GF's Sis. Actually I kind of wish I kept that one.

from personel experience my sony dru-510a is wonderful.. although a little expensive compared to others on the market today..... its very fast.. realiable and handles both formats... perfect.
Best place to look for deals like harddrives and dvd burners is a site called www.fatwallet.com. Go to the forums, and check out hot deals. There you can find sweet deals that thier members find (like my 200gb harddrive going in my xbox that was $20 or the 2.4x dvd burner I got last year for $40)Goodluck!

NEC-2500 dual format will burn even the cheapest of discs right out of the box, also like $100 or less nowadays and it's great. Also can burn discs at 8x which is for -r and +r
