we've finally opened the pandora's box on the complicated file structure in this game...
check it out:
if anyone wants to help out, we'd love to see some new talent among us... We're currently working on extracting many of the character textures. skinning this game will soon become as much of a reality as it is with doa3
our SC2 forum is located here
we can also be found in IRC irc.freenode.net #soulcalibur

Thank you! Go ninja hackers!

you'd think a subject like this would be more popular
Feb 29 2004, 11:29 PM
you'd think so

It'll catch fire soon enough. Good work guys.

i don't think you understand how difficult it actually was
Mar 2 2004, 02:32 PM
Screw that guy...u guys that are hacking SC2 RULE! I wish I had the time and knowledge it takes to even attempt what you guys are doing. If I had the source code for SC2 it would still be difficult to create skins, much less doing it through encrypted code and hex editing. Congrats and thanks for all your efforts this far!
Take it easy,
Mar 2 2004, 02:37 PM
This sounds pretty cool. btw how far are you guys on model extracting? Will we be seeing Link in SC2 for XBOX anytime soon?

well, i certainly hope so, but one step at a time
we havn't extracted any meshes yet, but we have come across what appears to be mesh data before... It is all rather difficult to make out because it appears that Namco stripped all of the filenames from the directory structure when they compiled the game.
Mar 4 2004, 03:44 PM
Wow, this is interesting! Keep up the good work.
awesome...so you guys finally figured out the strange olk format eh ?
Mar 4 2004, 11:08 PM
good job guys! great to see progress on sc2 hacking
keep up the good work!
Mar 9 2004, 03:51 PM
Whats up guys...any news on this one yet?
Mar 10 2004, 02:28 AM
wel, we've developed a couple of apps to aid us in extracting the contents of the olk. we are now trying to determine the file formates of these extracted segments (which is hard to do since the filenames were stripped by namco =/)
once again, if anyone wants to help we'd love to hear your input. the tools are available in our sc2 forums on ninjahacker.net

This is friggin awesome and deserves a bump
Mar 12 2004, 05:34 PM
stage vertex clouds found =Phttp://www.arctangent.8k.com/sc2/vertex/vertex.html
and here are some odd hacks found form teh ps2 version (check out the video O_o) http://www-inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~markws/sc2/sc2.html
Mar 14 2004, 09:41 PM
Cypher you are without a doubt the man. Are there any tools in existence from older namco game hacking that may help, or could be adapted to help restore the filenames? This can't be the first time Namco has done this in their games...there's gotta be something out there that's been used before to restore / erase the filenames / structure. Think Namco custom designed an app that would do that? Or I dunno...could it have been done w/ the XDK?
Mar 15 2004, 02:25 AM
actually scdc used olnk files similar to sc2 ones
no, i don't think there are any namco hacking utilites released online. they're being made right now
Mar 15 2004, 03:35 AM
Cool...can't wait to hear more, I'm gonna brainstorm w/ a software developer friend of mine...maybe we can come up with something to help, he's familiar with protection schemes like that. We worked on a little program for a while where I used to work, the program's different features called the class ids of files instead of the filenames themselves...I dunno if that would help, but I will ask to see if he has any tricks up his sleeves, if thats even along the same lines as what you guys are doing, you guys rule...you all will nail sc2 sooner than later, take it easy.

Nice. You guys rule. I'm looking forward to what can be done here. I love SC2.
Apr 26 2004, 04:40 AM
You guys are awsome. I was thinking, often when programs are developed, they are programmed larger than needed and then scaled down. I wonder if Link from the GC and the guy from Tekken on PS2 are in the code somewhere to be unlocked? That would be awsome if they are!!!
Apr 26 2004, 06:29 AM
Excellent to hear about this guy. Best of Luck!
Apr 28 2004, 12:07 AM
cypher ripped hihachi's move set from the ps2 and reinjected them into the xbox under spawn!!! there is a video on his site ninjahacker.net... somewhere in the forums

that would be here
although i may take it down if it consumes too much bandwidth.
Oct 18 2004, 08:01 PM
can you replace voldo with link or hehachi?
Oct 20 2004, 03:21 PM
wow, talk about resurecting an old topic...
the answer is yes and no. you can give someone link or heihachi's moveset, but you can't replace the character models (yet) with link or heihachi... you could replace the character model with any other character from the game and skin them to make them *look* like link or heihachi though.
also, while i'm posting in this topic again, there has also been some other progress in the sc2 hacking scene on ninjahacker since my last post here. we've now figured out ways to add more selectable costumes per character, plus we can edit sound effects and voices.
Oct 24 2004, 07:51 AM
GREAT! thank you gonna check it out
Nov 4 2004, 02:10 AM
Although i think its great that you guys are making great progress with hacking games and such, i think there are somethigns that should be jsut left alone.
Such as, LEAVE LINK OUT OF IT.
I LOVE link and i LOVE nintendo, i think that it is totaly unfair that teh x-box gets to see the likes of him. this is why ill never EVER play OOT ot MM or any Zelda game on my z-box its NOT FAIR.
Link belongs to nintendo and i dont want to see him ported over, this is why i own a Game Cube so i cna play their characters and stuff, it kinda annoys me seeing people wanting to get link and mario and what not over to the x-box. If you wana play him, i think you should g and buy a game cube.
Sorry about the kinda rant, just annoys me to see nintendo go down as it is.
Nov 4 2004, 07:13 AM
...... wow im going to copy play ever nintendo game on my xbox now lol im mad! nintendo turn zelda into a 7 year old game for the gamecube
