ok - i never flashed my chip....my cuz flashed it with probably an old xecutor 2 bios and sent it to me....

how can i find what version i have....

i know i can prolly run a million searches and find the answer.....but come on, it's a simple question so please humor me

trust me - i read this site every day like it's my f'n bible! beerchug.gif

still thinking about upgrading my bios for fear of accidentally getting caught on LIVE and i understand that the newer bios makes it pretty much impossible to do....correct?
xbonz00889
If u put in slayers and run it it might be able to tell u sometimes it is off but it tries. Umm the new bios dont make it IMPOSSIBLE but it does make it a hell of a lot more unlikyl but still easy.
seedybrick
oi....i honestly don't want to get into slayer's at all!

it would require another month of my time which i surely don't have! ohmy.gif

any other method????

correct me if i'm wrong - but the latest bios doesn't allow you to connect to live if the xecutor is running no??? if that's the case then how could one still make the mistake of getting caught?

shanafan
Get XBTool for your PC. Load the BIOS.

And yes, X2 4981 disables Live with modchip on. And no, you can't make a mistake and connect to Live.. because it won't connect to Live
seedybrick
ahhhh yes.....you are my guru cool.gif

4.24.04 yanks and bosox.....nice 3rd base box seats with me and pops

can't f'n wait! biggrin.gif

hey dude - i know i've asked this before...but perhaps you can shed more light....

i know NOTHING about any of this crap.....somehow i've been able to teach myself (with everyone's help) how to get as far as having the set up i need.....

i really want to update to the latest bios for reasons above.....but i'm terrified that i'll f it up and end up with NOTHING.....how hard is that to do???

i have a matrix chip with the current evox dash....

do i have to erase my old bios first?

i guess i'm really looking for confidence laugh.gif

but moreso.......i need to fully understand the RISKS to assess whether my dumbass should try this or not......oi!

and note:::: it can be said that if all fails i could yank my chip and re-program it with the programmer on the parrallel port.......but i did try that before i ever tried to mod my box.....and i couldn't get any of those programs (winlpc etc) to work right.......

so it's kinda like.....i'm not sure if my programmer even works anymore....if it does...i don't know how to do it

.....not to mention that i would DIE if i had to reinstall that chip again! ohmy.gif

thanks all........always cool.gif

up again.......i noticed a bios version listed in my evox settings....no reason to think it is wrong right??

and what of my last long post above

thanks all beerchug.gif

The bios listings on the evox ini is how evox determines what bios is on the chip by the information you type into that section...

You flash update your matrix via evox dash, by transfering the bios to the bios folder where ever it is probably on c:
The go through the evox settings options to flash bios and do as it says, it will erase the chip then flash the bios you choose...
Or you can burn a boot disc with the bios on there same way but from dvd rom..
Use a matrix programmer, need to remove chip...
The risks if you have a power blackout or a corrupt bios the flash will fail, then you will need to flash the chip in the programmer...

i'm so terrified unsure.gif

isn't there a threat of getting just a "bad flash"???

assuming the bios file i have is totally fine....could this not still happen for no real reason?

also....what is the latest greatest.....4981??

yes.
and if you realy fu.. up and get a ba flash, buy a programmer or some friend of you have a programmer for matrix chip.

it`s not that hard to flash matrix, you just need to do it right the first time.
seedybrick
well......it was already flashed right the first time i guess as i do have a working bios and chip etc.

like i said though...i'm not sure if my damn programmer even works....sure as heck couldn't get it to work when i thought my chip needed to be reflashed until i installed it correctly

this is what i did with my matrix( with a 120gb hd).
-use 4981.06 bios
-with xbtool i made som nice changes biggrin.gif (colour and stuff). lba48 patch: F: partition take the rest. saved it as a 256 bios
-ftp it to a folder in xbox called bios
-turned off xbox and pushed both switchs away from the "ON" mark
-turn xbox on again
-click on "flash bios" in menu
-load my bios that i saved in bios folder
-flashed ....... almost heart attack..erasing.... saving new bios.... and reboot.
voila, it worked smile.gif
