and how the hell are we suppose to know what your on about...are you on about a screw driver well i just use a normal screw driver which i have bts to fit on it like torx 10 15 20 and loads of others ones like cross heads and straights over a hundred bits to go on it!
Beamscope
on about or aboot?

The 6 screws on the case of my x box are all safety torx head screws. (star shaped screw head with a pin in the middle so off the shelf tools cant open it)

A standared robertson #1 screwdriver will fit in without modifying either the tool or the screw heads.

How do you get your case apart?

I bought a complete screwdriver and drill bit set (including torx) kit at Canadian Tire for $12 CAN. smile.gif
Beamscope
Is my machine the only one with anti tampering screws holding the case together. The proper bit for my xbox case screws is not just a standard torx - but a torx with a hole in the centre. A standard torx just hits the pin in the middle of the screw and spins.

The rest of the screws inside the case are all standard torx.
antz1970
where did u get your box from , and do you have any idea what version it is?
UndercoverPunker
laugh.gif thank god I got a 1.0 If I ran into that bullshit I'd gotten pissed and drilled them fuckers out!!!
polyesterjones
I have an earlier version Xbox as well as a later version and neither of which have any "safety torx" screws on them. Is this a foreign thing?
estin
i can remember putting security displays and stuff together at work and having those damn security allan/hex bolts with the post in the middle of them. what a bitch, i'd be pissed if my console had those. i bought it, i can open it if i want to!
Emohnke
that's almost as gay as Nintendo using Gamebit screws blink.gif it took me forever to get my GC open.
UndercoverPunker
Just so everyone is on the same page he's talking about Security Torx, or if that's not enough... a picture....user posted image

i actually lucked out, i got a large bit set with all the torx and shit, and it had the GC bit in there as well. it fits, but i've yet to open it for reasons i don't want to say.

undercover - thank you!! That is the baby. I thought I was on to something useful here. Turns out as usual to be useful to nobody.

How do you tell the version? Mine is manufactured on 2002-06-11 and is product id 242 4042297 22302 Phillips dvd and seagate HD

Mine stopped working with an error 7 (checked ide cable to no avail) after a few nights of being left on with a dvd-r spinning all night. Strange that it would quit a few weeks after getting a dvd burner.

Mine was purchased in Canada. Probably one of the first machines off the line as I believe it was in my heavily allocated first xbox shipment.
Casper1786
yup scene those Bits before, never seen them instore, but my Gramps has tools comin out his ass an like 3 sets of Torx, he's 1 of those guys thats gotta buy every size an shape of tools.

Screw NAPA. Go to AutoZone. Buy parts and make my stocks go up in price. biggrin.gif

You have a digital Beamscope? If so get some pics of these screws and post them. Maybe Bill did a limited test of these to see what people would do about it. I've modded all versions of the XBox and never seen these things.
Beamscope
Sure - now I have to figure out how to upload pics.

Should be up soon.

Shit - here comes the part where you never hear from beamscope again, but someone else with the same IP joins up right away... Ya see as I lined up the screws to take a pic I realize that I am a fool. No wonder people thought I dont know what i was talking about - turns out I dont.

Thanks in advance for not flaming my ignorance.

Beamscope the eater of crow.

I got a security set a Sears that had a shitload of different heads.
polyesterjones
I got tired of having to use torx bits, so I ended up slotting the screws on the Xbox so I could use a flathead screwdriver.
antz1970
i think pretty much we all realised what the screws were that u were talking about , but not many (if any) people had came across them on xboxs biggrin.gif, the only thing i can think of is we have a place in u.k called"crazy georges" probably got em all over the world ,they sorta give credit to people who aint got great credit historys(and charge a fortune in interest) well my m8 got a pc from there and the case had been refitted with security torx so that it couldnt be opened or upgraded @ least not as easily as it should have been this was due to the fact that if u default on the payments the shop sends round "the boys" to take it back rotfl.gif
not that im saying you got your box from such a place m8 , biggrin.gif
Beamscope
What I meant by my last post was that I was mistaken on the screws. Nothing fancy or diferent on my xbox. I aparently smoked a bit too much and was seeing pins where there was none. beerchug.gif

Thanks all for not outright calling me stupid and offering solutions to my imagined problem.
Jigsaw
WHAT? Dude, how can you make something up and then claim that you were mistaken? Weirdo.

There is a depate of DECRIMINALIZING weed, not legalizing. We are getting pressure from the states to not decriminalize it. By decriminalizing it, if you have less then 30 grams or smth on you, you dont have to go to coart. Just a fine. Im not exacly sure on how much it is, because its always changing.

What pisses me off is that I have crappy vision and it takes me too long to determine whether I need a Torq or Hex driver. Damnit, if I had any say in anything we'd all use hex (Not that robertson is bad, they're second best, go Canada)!
