Hi ppl

I was wondering if it is possible to get a dump of the Retail bios from a modded xbox, says I get retailbios.bin

Now if this is possible, And I believe BIOS like xecuter2. etc are Retail modified BIOS... Now if someone would take his BIOS, hack it to run unsigned code etc, and then make a binary Diff file and release a Patch that contains only the modified code.. Would it be legal distribute such binary diff file from Retail to Hacked BIOS since it contains no original code but only a few bytes to apply to some places in the original bios to make it like his Hacked bios..

Example,...

Some guy hack is bios and release a diff file

I buy a xbox, install a modchip with say cromwell and a linux app to dump
my original bios.

I download the patch and apply it to my original BIOS and then I reflash it to
my modchip..

Would this be legal or not ?

Thanks
BenJeremy
It should be perfectly legal.

Of course, there are lots of BIOS kernels out there.

Perhaps Nightshade could provide a "hack" option for retail BIOSes, adding the "usual" patches to original BIOSes....

Of course, there are other issues.... as in the RC4 key.

the rc4 wouldn't matter if you would create this diff file from two packed bios'es. only problem there is that the retail bios used must be the same that the patch was created with

the biggest problem will be that the bios in encrypted.. the encryption will change almost the entire data in the file, so your "patch" would basically be 256 kb of new bios data, containing all the MS code as well.
