Full Version: Does The Enigmah Support Hdd Swap?

Hi...
I'm rather confused blink.gif about this:

Does the Enigmah modchip support HDD swap, if the new HDD is the same size as the original, or is it completely impossible to replace the original HDD, when having a Enigmah modchip installed?

In case that it is possible to install a new one, does the new one then HAVE to have preciously the same capacity, as the old one, or is it just larger HDD's which the Enigmah doesn't support...???
kkattfish
hd swap is completely impossible with the enigmah chip. beerchug.gif
JaXbox
Not even if I don't need to gain any size of the HDD??? sad.gif
kkattfish
not even then, in fact not even if your original hd, had a sex change and doesn't work anymore, haha, it's a joke, don't get mad. beerchug.gif

the truth is with the enigmah you can't change the drive no matter what, even if it is the same size. sorry.
JaXbox
damn... sad.gif
Guess I'll have to remove the Enigmah chip, and install another, which DOES support HDD swap.. (I wonder if it's difficult?? dry.gif )???

But anyways thanx for the info...!
Cheerio
any new chip, matrix, x2, cheapmod.......
kkattfish
it's not actually modchip that allows the hd swap, it's the bios, but since you can't upgrade the bios on the enigmah, there lies the problem. so basically any mod you can upgrade the bios on, (matrix, xecutor 2) would be your best bet. you can swap the hd with some chips like the xecutor 1 but you can't upgrade the bios on that chip, so i would not recommend getting it.
you may be better off trying to sell that xbox and just starting over instead of trying to remove the chip, i don't know guess it depends on how good you are at soldering and desoldering. well g/l beerchug.gif

hang on what if he locked the new hdd?
Cheerio
doesnt matter..bios feature, it doesnt matter locked or not.
kkattfish
please take our word for it, we know what we're talking about, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.... thank you. beerchug.gif

I'd like to go out on a limb and disagree with everyone here !! huh.gif

OKay, I know technically you can change the HDD with an Enigmah BUT you can use the Enigmah to run EvoXDash and then use this to flash the TSOP.

If you stick EvoX BIOS in the TSOP, you can then swap the HDD over fine.

The only problem is that if it goes wrong during the flash you'll have to buy an LPC chip and will lose XBLive compatibility. (But you can backup your existing TSOP so that it can be put back with certain chips)

Once the TSOP is flashed with the EvoX BIOS you can remove the Enigmah and have no mod chip what-so-ever!

There's a tutotial on the main page about this - but follow the instructions perfectly or you may have to make more mods.

okay, yes you can flash the tsop with the enigmah, and then upgrade the hd if you put a proper bios on the tsop, but the question was can you change the hd with the enigmah, the answer again is no and always will be no.
put this thread to rest already it has been answered completely. beerchug.gif

I'll also go out on a limb and disagree with Cheerio. If he locks the hdd with the correct code, it would work fine with an enigmah. Enigmah's bios doesn't support unlocked drives or the 6th (F) partition. So as long as you lock the drive and don't want to use the extra space, say, if your original went bad, it would work provided you could get the correct hdd key.
Cheerio
enigmah doesnt support it, period...*i think, im pretty sure*

Hmm, if that were the case, why does the MS bios work with a larger, but locked drive (only seeing 8gb of course). If you don't want / need extra space, and have the correct locking key, I don't see why it wouldn't?

Correct me if I'm wrong....

Cheerio
why the hell would you only swap for 8 gigs? people swap for 120's

NFI, but that is what the original poster asked! If you could change the hdd with another 8gb drive!

Yep, if it's locked, then the stock bios could use it, so therefore the enigmah could too.

Scimmia, & kjparker are correct.

Hey guys!
I'm gettin' a little confused here!
At first Cheerio assured me that it wasn't possible, but then kjparker claims that it indeed IS possible... dry.gif

The only thing I can say is that I ONLY need the original 8 Gigs! It is NOT my intention to get more space (yes, there're actually people for whom size doesn't matter - Cheerio!)...

So, to kjparker's post:

Is it possible to get the MS / Enigmah BIOS to run with a new/old HDD, if it's just locked?

Ok, let's sum this all up

- Enigmah will support an HDD swap, but you will NOT be able to use the F partition. It will be as a stock Xbox

- Locking an HDD will only allow the retail BIOS the ability to boot. The Enigmah will boot a properly locked/unlocked HDD.

- Why would you want to put a 120GB HDD in your Enigmah Xbox if the chip cannot make use of the additional space. Actually I saw a 100GB HDD in an Enigmah Xbox. Poor fool.

- Yes, an Enigmah Xbox with a flash upgraded original TSOP will support the upgraded HDD. But the Enigmah is not supporting the HDD, but the upgraded TSOP is.

You're entirely correct IF you remove the word "unlocked" in your second point.

the only way to get it to work would be this. You would need to know what code the bios is looking for when it unlocks the drive since the enigmah mod, just like the retail bios, needs to unlock a locked drive before it will continue booting up. So what you would have to do is find a friend (a good friend at that) with another xbox and a mod that allows unlocked hard drives. Then install the hard drive you want to use into his system. Now you would need to flash your eeprom to his machine or copy his eeprom and use it in your machine. Basically you need the eeprom your gonna use and the hard drive your gonna use in a machine that allows unlocked hard drives to run (since the password is generated from both of those). Copy down the generated password in evolutionx. Then restore his eeprom and hard drive, lock your hard drive with this password and install it in your machine (since this is now the correct password the bios is using). Now that I think about it though if you could borrow a matrix mod or any mod chip that allows unlocked drives and install it in your system temporarily, install the hard drive unlocked, and write down the password from evolutionx and lock your drive then uninstall the mod chip and return it and reconnect the two disable wires on the enigmah. That should work too, either way is a pain in the ass and its probably just easier to buy a new modchip and leave it in smile.gif. Hope this helps though. (as a side note I havn't done either process so I can't guareentee they will work but in theory they should)
