I am sure many are wondering what DVD drives are floating around in the XBoxes after the price drop. So if you bought a new one after the 3/30 price drop, open that bastard up and let everyone know what they have to offer on DVD drives.

just because the price changed doesnt mean that your going to find anything different then the 3 drives already in the drive.

I bought a new one today, since my old 1.0 was getting the xmas frag and I got a samsung with it. It had no bundle and I'm questioning exchanging it because the dvdrom seems to be REALLY loud, even if no game is inside. I hear a sorta buzzing noise all the time. All the boxes I've played with had thomsons so I'm not sure if sammys are just loud or something... Is it unsual for it to make noise?

Are you sure it isn't the fan I have a new xbox with the samsung drive and then fan is really loud the drive seems to be quite.

i bought one today at walmart, it wasn't in the bundle, it has a samsung drive. manufactured 12 - 22 - 2003

well still, i think thats a steal...samsung's are worth at least a hundred, and with the motherboard, power supply, and controller...that seems like a pretty good deal to me...i never thought the samsung came standard in an xbox u can get at walmart...do they let you play dvd-r's and cd-r's in an unmodded xbox?

the oldest xbox I recently touched upon has been mfg'd 11/29/2003. and everyone one Ive seen since than with different mfg dates from 11/29 on up through now have ALL had sammy drives in them( about 23) all bought from walmart and target bestbuy and circuit city. very nice if you ask me. I need a new xbox anyways. my 1.0 is a refurb with a switched out old phillips drive. it's flawless on dvd-rs but cdrs dont work of course. the samsung drives in the new xboxs DO play cdrs without a mod, but only if they are audio cds of course.

I just bought one today at Sam's Club. It had a samsung drive, and the manufacture date was 06-19-03. I was suprised to get one that old, it still had the holiday bundle with tertis and star wars.

Bought 2 today, both samsungs!! w00t w00t!

Already replaced my Green halo philips drive with a samsung (swapped the bezels)

A co-worker of mine picked one up yesterday at BestBuy (gift for his son). I told him to try to find one that's the oldest one they have, i know it's hard to determine what drives are in what. But in any case, he doesn't know much about it and just asked the guy if he knew of which one that had a good dvd drive in it. He didn't know to ask for a samsung, but he said the best buy guy knew what he was talking about and picked one out for him by looking at the date. And sure enough, it's got a samsung in it. I pretty sure it's was just luck, but he said the guy told him that he was sure it would have it.

I don't know don't know if you can really tell exactly what drives are in there by the date.........but he has one with a samsung.
