I was wondering...

How long does it usually take for a skin to get posted on alxboxskins.com? I sent in a skin 3 days ago and after recieving error messages from the site after trying to upload them, I uploaded them to the ftp site instead. Still no responses or sign of my skin showing up.

Thanks in advance to all that can answer this question.

Depending on where I am and what i am doing (working, sleeping).. the time is anywhere from 1 minute and up.. most within 8 hours or less. I receive an email notification when a skin was uploading using the form and this will direct my attention, but I dont get a notification when uploaded to the FTP.

I just went through the ftp and updated the skins that were posted there, so why doesnt it show? Could be for a couple reasons:

1. The forum says when you recieve an error, to upload via ftp, but it also tells you to send me an email (you can do that with normal email or through our feedback form, or even with a PM/email here on this forum) so that I know the skin was posted, I do not check the ftp everyday for new skins.

2. You uploaded via ftp, but your skin was less than 1mb and no email was sent. There is no real reason for it to error using the upload form unless it was not filled out correctly, skin to large, or we are having difficulties. The ftp is intended for large skins and I normally do not take the time to upload a skin that is well within the limits of our upload form. It is a Pain in my Arse to do a manual additition to the list and that is the main reason I am not willing to upload every 300kb (or less) skin i see in the ftp. I AM more than willing to do it for the skins that error on upload due to size, or for those on dial up that are just having a hard time getting it uploaded. That was the reason behind the pub ftp.

Case in point, Robotech Master Series tHc skin, is 303kb, was uploaded to the ftp.. but was later(or should i say - recently) added with the upload form. It takes me 2 seconds to approve a skin for the list this way, up to 10 minutes when doing it manually (mostly depending on the size). Also, If I post it, I dont know the description the author may want, or any of the other form items we ask for.

If the upload error is valid, meaning its a small skin and you're on dial-up ( or something liek that) and the form continues to error, by all means, send it to the ftp.....but be sure to send an email or I tend to think the author doesnt give a dang about the skin or just couldnt use the upload form correctly.

Finally, if it was a skin I made, and the form error'd, It might have been due to high traffic at the time. Personnally, I would try again or wait until off-peak hours to upload so I got the information added that I wanted to be added. Only as a final option would i ftp it.. but thats just me.

Hope this answered your question. Im also sorry if my answers sound offensive...I'm trying to be blunt for a reason.

Thanks koldfuzion.

Unfortunately, tried uploading it a few mins ago and the forum hates me. Uploaded to the FTP and sent an email notification. Hopefully everything makes it through.

yes, we recently swapped servers (again) and our upload limit is back to default. Im trying to get it set to a higher value but its not something i control.

I DID previously see your skin on the Ftp.. but it wasnt complete (archive error) which is why it never got posted. -- now that i see the name of it.

Since it was uploaded via ftp, and the readme inside the file with the email, and no email sent explicitly sent to me there was no way to know who to inform of the incomplete upload.

yes Drake, xbox-skin.net has awesome upload capabilities. very nice. wish i had it smile.gif
