hi. i was trying to get my jewl off by the heating method but i can not get it off. i was wondering wheather i have to cut off the black plastic behind the jewl to get it off?

thanx for your help

Everyones gonna say search but use the heating method and take a small screw driver or something thats flat and stick it under the side as you heat it and SLOWLY pry it up if its hot enough it should come up with the stupid black shit on it too. On mine there was a little ring of plastic under it that started to melt and thats when I pryed it off.

Dont heat it when you heat it your risk warping the jewel. Put your lid in the freezer for about 2 hrs and then put it face down on a towel and put another towel behind the jewel (on the black plastic) hit right behind the jewel on the towel it should pop right off . . . mine did.

i 2nd the freezer method.

Freezer method is best and easiest. I have heard of some jewels not coming out with that method though. So first try the freezer, then try the hairdryer if that doesn't work.

I remember someone saying something about turning a can of compressed air up side down and freezing the jewel with the liquid, sounded like it would work... never tried it though...

ok. now i have a problem. i sanded it down like i am supposed to so i startted with 300 grit sandpaper. then i used 600 grit. i dont know where the hell i can buy 1200 grit but i couldnt find any. so i tried the toothpaste. nope. so i let my brother sand a little bit. well about 5 seconds after he started i noticed that he was sanding the WRONG SIDE!! sad.gif so now i am wondering what i can do?

lol, well you can try sanding both sides now. You can get high grit sandpaper at auto parts stores.

thats no big deal. i sand both sides of my jewels cause sometimes there are scratches in the top. this way i can take them out. go to walmart to get 1500 and 2000 grit paper in the auto dept. just make sure you start wet sanding from about 600 on up and keep it very wet. mine came out great. i have 2 for sale if you want one. tongue.gif

Hey, I have a question. I want to sand my jewel using 150 grit sandpaper per the tutorial on the fast and easy lighted jewel mod. Will the 150 grit sandpaper give me the frosted look I desire?

Mines came out pretty easy and without hassle just heat it up from the bottom with a blow dryer and slowly start to lift it with your finger nails.. and once you lift it up enough just blow some heat between the jewel and the case and its off
saltyscott
if you want a veery nice look to your jewel you should use car polish. This method will also get out even the deepest scratches you may have on your jewel. cool.gif
