Hooking up lights in my xbox made me want something a bit more plug and play. So if I run into any problems I could easily detach/reattach my various components. Anyways, I found and ordered some parts that I hope will make things alot easier and figured I'd share them here as I'm sure others are in the same boat as me.
MicroBus, Power Connection Unit This thing takes a molex as input and gives you 4 pairs of 12v/ground screw type outputs. I thought it was pretty slick.
Molex (3-Pin) Y Adapter This is a Y adapter that has a female 3 pin connector on one end and 2 males on the other. I bought a bunch of these to hack up for quick connections.
I'm not affiliated with pcmods in any way, just thought this was a pretty nice deal for some things we could all use.
EDIT: Revised links for the replacement home of pcmods as they finish their liquidation.

The main reason I checked the site out is I heard about their going out of business sale. Some good deals, but best deals in the free shipping section. I got 4 of the power connection units and 10 y adapters and it cost me just over $15 shipped.

Typically when wiring multiple things when you've only got one connector to start with you're gonna end up either using a bunch of y adapters or splicing and twisting wires together (possibly soldering these wires as well). With the power connection unit you can just split your power connector once before it gets to your hard drive with a standard y adapter. Then you've got 4 pairs of 12v/ground lines to support 4 devices. You won't have to mess around with any connectors or splicing. You can just take your 12v line and it's ground pop em in the holes and screw them down. I've seen terminals similar to these (but on a much larger scale) used in car audio applications.
With something like this you might be able to get your wires a bit more organized. If the plethora of connectors you've got in your box is preventing you from closing the lid, this will definitely help you. If it's a matter of your convertor boxes for your cold cathodes blocking your lid, then it's a different story.
Stupid question, but did you change out the fan without trimming down the hd tray? That would definitely prevent your lid from closing.

I'll have some pics once I have the item in hand.
Anyways, here it is spelled out as clearly as I can make it. Your PSU has one power connector coming out of it. Put a 4 pin molex Y adapter on this connector so that you have one connector going to the hard drive and a second one that you can plug into the microbus power connection unit. Make sure that you mount the microbus power connection unit accordingly so it doesn't short out by touching the RF shield. Once you've done this you will be able to hook up as many as 4 12v devices to this unit.
If you screw up your box in an attempt to follow these instructions I bear no responsibility whatsoever, please proceed at your own risk.

tthat thing looks really small to have 4 molex cables to connect to it.

that first link is great
I just ordered 5 of them... just a really handy item to have around when doing case mods...
according to the description it comes with a y-splitter too... bonus
for those of you who don't understand how this works: you plug the molex connector into one side (you know the white connector attached to the hard drive) and the other side has wire clamps so you can insert wire into it and just clamp it down to get power.
so when you're installing LEDs you dont have to solder the power leads just clamp it to this thing... and because it's a clam you can shove lots of wires in there easily
Nice find

would this work for replacing LED's in the eject button and jewel? or do those still require soldering?

Does anyone know if the first part eliminates soldering?

Eliminates Soldering of What? If your still talking about the Eject LED then No it doesnt. That is really easy though. Get a soldering iron practice a little and go for it.

The reason for the sale was the acquisition of pcmods by frozencpu. Pcmods can now be found at getmods.com while they finish their liquidation sale. So if you see something you like, get em now before their gone. I received my 4 MicroBus units and 10 y adapters, but haven't had the opportunity to do anything with them yet. No need to disturb old wiring will i go in again. The links in the first post have been updated and work now, but here they are again.
