No, playing those media types will not comrimise the drive. However, i don't believe any XBOX DVD-ROM can play CD-R, you'd need to use CD-RWs.

d00d you do installations and upgrades and you dont think ANY xbox DVDROM can read CD-R?
wtf, where you been? Its widely known that Samsung Drives read CD-R without a hitch, and believe it or not, Ive seen these newer Philips drives popping out for about 3-4 months now, that dont have a problem with them at all!
And hell, they read DVD+R burnt any which way. With a samsung you need a Ricoh based DVD burner to change the bitsetting to DVD-ROM and not DVD+R

Not true. samsungs not reading DVD+R without having acertain burner and certain bit settings is a myth on this site.
Burned DVD+R with an NEC no change to any book type or nothing and tested in all boxes I have chipped which have Samsung Drives well over 40 with Sammy drives and no problems.

The only good drives are Samsung.
