I just got a new Samsung PC DVD Rom drive model is SD-616E (UK)
trying to follow some of the mod tutorials for the SD-616T, the layout seems slightly different on my pcb, but have managed to locate the Trout, Trin, and the EJkey( which i think is the Eject) points on the pcb but cannot seem to find the M1 or Ready point. Have found an point named M2, just wandered if anyone has sucessfully modded this model, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

i am not 100 percent positive about this, but i think the 616E is not compatible with the 605 firmware. So if you flash it, it won't work anymore.
So you can only use it as a DVD replacement that doesnt read originals. However, I am not 100 percent sure about this. So correct me if im wrong guys.

sorry drusso66 but you got the wrong drive type buddy

you either got ripped off by someone or made an O to common mistake. It is (thus far) IMPOSSIBLE to get that baby to play orginals only the SD-616
T or the SD-616
F will work!

SHIT!!!!!!!! Have already flashed the drive is it possible to flash it back that is assuming I can get the original firmware from somewhere, anyways thanks for the replies, if any one has any info on flashing this drive back would appreciate it.
It's a shame cause the drive worked great along side the original as a slave wish i had kept it this way .

http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/LiveUpdate/F...1&product_code=http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/214261/S...M-Firmware.htmlmight be able to flash it back under dos & mtkflash if sfdnwin won't work for you under windows
reg free firmware -
http://etna.rpc1.org/samsung/sd616e/f501comf.zipin fact look at this page for all samsung firmwares - not the 605b though
http://etna.rpc1.org/samsung/index.htmlyou can use a windows flasher - sfdnwin
(from samsung site)
or the dos mtkflash -
http://etna.rpc1.org/mt/mtkflash_180.zipps if you use the dos mktflash and the 503 firmware I "think" the command you type is something like:
mtkflash.exe 4 w /b F503COM0206.bin
- providing you got the firmware in mktflash folder and 616e is slave on second ide channel but sure you can figure it all out
- been a while and I set it up as batch file on an old pc to flash 616 q,t,f & e's on there by just typing 616q, 616t or 616e at the old dos prompt/F5
best of luck
