OK - Forgive me if this has been covered already, but I am stumped.

I have a new XBOX, Samgsung Drive, the box was manufatured in October of 2002.

I installed the X2L and removed the jumper for the v1.1 BIOS. Everything seemed to work great, I loaded Evox and I loaded NexGen (I decided that I would stick with Evox for now as I knew it well).

I FTP'd into the box and I formatted the F: Drive and had a wonderful afternoon. Then I tried to play a backup., it refused to boot.and the system remained at the Evox screen. So I tried another backup. No joy. Then I tried an original, it booted fine. To make a long story short, all my original games boot OK but NONE of my backups boot at all.

I used to have a 1.0 box with a Messiah-X and I know all these backups play fine.

I am stumped, as Evox is running, I can only assume the modchip is isntalled propery, but it definitly discriminates between backups and originals.

Any ideas? Is this something obvious?

Maybe they worked fine on your old box, but the new samsung might not like them...

I thought the samsung reads most anything....

Did you try booting from the game, or have evox boot, then start the dvd game?

The bizzare thing is that the Evox CDRW boots first time every time, The games run off the hard disk OK so it is not some new protection thingy. It can only be that Samsung drive. ALl my backups are on DVD+R media and should play fine, but it does not even see the files on the disk when I FTP to the D: Drive

I am going crazy. I will have to return this friggin thing to the store....

Whoever said the Samsung drive was the one to get is an ASS....

Have u tried to reboot with a game in the drive... Evox as default have auto launch games off...

Yep tried that - I tried setting autolaunch to on as well... it is definitly the drive.

How unlucky am I?

Al_Ghazi, I have heard a friend report that his Samsung does not read DVD+R media but I have not confirmed this myself as yet.

Can you find out? Right now I feel singled out, but if this can be replicated we should try and document it.

As for me - nothing I have tried has been any use. I will have to see about getting another new XBOX.

my modded asian x-box with samsung drive (SGD-605) has no problem reading Ricoh DVD+R, but not too forgiving on the DVD+RW. perhaps u may want to try using other make of DVD+R.

I have confirmed my Samsung does not read DVD+R either.

it is all about sharing information, that is what I did. it bring me no benefit to tell otherwise.

i just backup a new game on DVD+R and this time I am using Verbatim (cheaper compared to Ricoh DVD+R)

There are people seeking out the Samsung drives; I've seen people offering a Thompson + cash for a Samsung. You may want to go that route.

From what I've seen, the Samsungs read CD-R and CD-RW better, but are less effective at reading DVD-R and DVD+R.

I have a Thompson drive, and am perfectly happy with it; I have a DVD-R burner and have no need to boot CD-R.

I'm planning to test some DVD+R, DVD+RW backups early next week on some various media provided I can get my hands on it (still can be hard to come across at reasonable prices here in Sydney).

If I manage to do this I'll post the results.
