I have recently been looking to purchase a clear case, but they are too expensive...

I was thinking about using some plexi glass but i was wondering if i would be able to take off the black on the box because i know u are able to remove the green on the jewe,l

If i remove the black on the case will it just come out white or is it clear?

and if its clear how do i get off the black

Thanks
DarkDeity
im pretty sure you CANT make the balck case clear, do i plexi case

or take old CD cases and melt the clear plastic XD!
brahm2
Normal black Xbox cases are 100% black - not clear plastic coated in black. So, that idea won't work.

People have made their own plexiglass cases before, so if you wanted to start cutting pieces of that out, you could make a case that way. Check the galleries to see some.. I know they are around somewhere.

The plastic is solid blackish-green. And is not painted. It is a solid color.

I cannont even believe somone would ask that question. The plastic was died dark green, which appears black to the untrained eye. AHAH remove paint you think it can go clean ROFLAMO!

I was thinking of filling a tub with hot glue and set the parts of the case inside. Then after it set cut it in half and peal it away from the Xbox, then place the hot glue mold into a tight fitted box, open a hole at the end of the cast and poor in some reason, or liquid plexy or something... then after it dries, melt or pull off the hot glue cast and ... WALA! A CLEAR CASE!!! wink.gif blink.gif jester.gif

Actually... I think I will try it for fun... you never know... I just need 2000 glue sticks now. biggrin.gif

that is the most brilliant idea ever, but hong lond do u think it would take to fill a bath tub the the 2000 glue sticks u would need....

I am not really going to use glue sticks. But, I am going to look up a product tonight that you can poor and it hardens into a semi-soft material similar to dried hot glue.

Don’t know if it will work... but, its worth a shot. I think the hardest thing would be to get the stuff to pull out of the threaded screw holes with out ripping. I was thinking of not using screws to hold it down... but... I have not even tried it yet so I will worry about that later. biggrin.gif

hey forta what you could do is plug the screws for thwe time being then when the mold is made just tap in new threadings. thats what i did whne i had a crapy case and the screws didnt fit.
Forta-Kon
Ill try that. In fact, I think I will fill and smooth all holes that my make the mold fail.... lol, I am thinking this might actually work.

I found a few products to use... now I just need an extra 6 hours in m y life. sad.gif

If it works, and depending on how much time a effort it takes... we will see if I can sell any. Lets not get our hopes up, but I will give it my best this week.

BTW its resin, not reason. Besides that this is a very easy project, I've already done it. I used mold builder to mold one of my junker xbox cases. I took everythign that was in there out and removed all shielding, screws etc. so that it was just the black casing. Using mold builder and some dowels, i made some molds. THe top is a 2 piece mold as is the bottom for a total of 4 pieces of molds, resin is sort of expensive so I really only had enough to cast one case, It came out sort of shitty, after some sanding it looks decent and with paint it looks great, my problems while doign this, sort of have to cut some excess resin that appears by the jewel, and the vents on the sides of the xbox. Also i have to dremel a bit so that the screws will actually go in this thing, i had to go to the hardware store and match the regular xbox screws as best i could. it isn't 100% tight, I may try to work some of this stuff out and make another mold during the summer. Before everyone tries this I suggest some careful thought, also, if you think you're going to cast in transparent plastics keep in mind some of these materials are only available online, and they can be expensive. Resin itself doesn't cast 100% clear and its expensive.

So... no pics Quinn? what a shame.

laugh.gif actually lots of sculptures are made with a wax molding type deal... and for the longest time I've been thinking it would almost work... here's what you do:

use some sort of molding material that will go from liquid to solid and is resistant to heat.... create a batch of it and pour a little bit in the bottom of some container... let it get almost dry, then set in a corner of the xbox into the what now should be semi-hard material so that it will support itself... then gradually pour in more of the molding material making sure that its watery enough to get into the cracks and crevases (the post holes dont matter too much because you can drill those out)... then procede to let it dry... when dry (COMPLETELY)... drill a hold down to the xbox... then turn the hole to point down... then put the whole shebang in a large oven... heat gradually, until the xbox melts and oozes itself out of the hole at the bottom... remove when its cool and pour in the material you want to make the new case out of gradually to make sure it gets in the holes and stuff and let dry... crack open your mold and hope for the best
