I just installed the new version of XBMC and tried to play a dvd movie and it still won't load... wen i go into XBMC and go to play dvd it will just hangs and freeze so I have to restart the system... has anyone else had this problem and actually figured out the solution....

What kind of DVD drive is in your XBox?

I'm not the original poster but I had the same/similar experience.

Using 5-21 loading DVDs takes a long time (10+ seconds) or actually does freeze under 1080i HDTV upscaling. Either way it looks like it's frozen and eventually either works or stays frozen. If I try backing out of a playing video it freezes the Xbox (perhaps this is a cache issue).

In addition it does not pass the AC3 DD5.1 signal to my receiver. I get stereo only. Retail DVD on Phillips drive in a v1.0 Xbox.

What program do people use for playing DVD movies in a modded xbox? I'm looking for a simple program that will play region-free. My XBMC hangs on launching DVDs too. As far as I can tell DVDX2 only copies DVDs.

Any help would be appreciated.

You have DVDX2 confused with DVD2X

DVDX2 is indeed a region free dongle free dvd player. It does not support progressive scan without hex editing though. But it does support menus in dvds whereas xbmc does not (as of yet)

Yeah it says in the list of bugs that some DVD playback doesn't work
