Well ... you
can use a 45W iron - but if you have a cooks blowtorch that might be better. me... I use an arc-welder.

Try a 15W....

Use a temperature controlled iron and the wattage won't matter. I have a 35w and a 45w .. but I set them at 330 degrees celsius ..

Do yourself a favor:
Go buy a new iron.
And find a good light so you can see. (a halogen desk lamp helps a lot)
Remember solder is like braile cream: a little dab will do ya.
anyone remember braile cream?

10 to 15 watts should be used. Anything higher and your asking for it.

How good are your soldering skilz?
i've been using a 60watt soldering iron to do psx and xbox without any probs but i must say this is @ your own risk. a 15watt should be much better!

As someone once said:
What are you people using to solder!? The fucking DeathStar cannon!?

And yes, anything over 30w is most definitly asking for it. If you have to ask yourself this question "should i use 45w?" you might wanna think twice about doing it yourself. Nothing personal.

I definately wouldn't go with it with an iron reated that high unless it was temperature controlled. I'd use a good temperature controlled iron, I use a butane powered iron myself.

What's braile cream? Is that for blind people so their hands don't dry out and they can feel the bumps?

well, if nothing else you can use it to burn through the motherboard so that you can pass the d0 wire through from the alternate point....
