I just got an Xecuter 2.3B lite+ chip and installed it successfully. After this, I installed the Xecuter2 4983 bios ( 1x 1mb). The bios installation was successful and when i boot my xbox it says XECUTER2 underneath the xbox logo. I got EvoX 3935 and made the folder with the default.xbe and the evox.ini into a .xiso with ExtractXISO. After this I burned the image onto a dvd-r with nero 6. I was on a role, chip installed flawlessly, bios installed flawlessly.... what could go wrong

. Fate hit me and once i put the EvoX dash dvd in my drive it said that "XBOX can't recognize disc" (this was in the default ms bios). i tried 4 different times and made 4 really expensive coasters in the process.
please help a no0b ?
PS i have a v 1.0 xbox with a thomson drive.

Make sure no multisession and finalize disc

Did you try putting a dummy file with it?
th3 muff
Jun 10 2004, 02:31 AM
yeah, it was the same dummy i used for my bios, 500mb
th3 muff
Jun 10 2004, 02:33 AM
also, my xbox won't recognize a burned audio cd either (i tried some cd just to test it). shouldn't my bios allow my dvd drive to read all of that stuff

thomson drives are picky with media...especially cdr's...did you rename the dummy like abc.bin?
th3 muff
Jun 10 2004, 02:43 AM
i just named it dummy.bin, would naming it abc do anything? by the way, i'm using dvd-r discs, not cd-r, so shouldn't it boot flawlessly?

dvd-r's should read just fine, even with a thomson, make sure you boot the xecuter bios if you want to read a burned disk (duh...

)
what app did you use to create the iso (craxtion, qwix,...)?
th3 muff
Jun 10 2004, 11:07 AM
i used qwix. also, i boot with my bios (i think, because the XECUTER2 label comes underneath the xbox dash when i boot my box). still, i tried 40+ times and disc wuldn't boot

I wouldnt get a philips drive, I had one in my crystal and even though it read CDR it would not read DVD-R so i swapped it for a samsung from another xbox. It reads all of my DVD-R fine, I have all my games backed up just in case, not run into a problem yet

try burning the iso with another app. i usually used nero6 but had problems with it a while back so since then, i've been using
alcohol 120% and have never gotten and errors since. I have a thomson and use DVD+-R/RW and they work just fine.

it does, but only makes/burns images but does it well. for it to recognise it as a dvd, the iso has to be over a certain size...maybe they fixed this in a newer version. just insert a dummy file in the iso so the entire disk is larger than 900MB-1GB and it will burn as a DVD.

Jun 10 2004, 11:39 AM
wait, burn it with a dummy file or make the xiso with a dummy in it?
atomiX
Jun 10 2004, 12:16 PM
the dummy file has to be IN the iso

okay, i'm gunna get some more dvd-r's in a couple hours, try it out, and then post my results

thanks guys. btw, is qwix good for making the xiso's>?
atomiX
Jun 10 2004, 12:25 PM
qwix is one of the best (if not THE best). craxtion is also quite good. xiso is a bit outdated but still works ok.

so i should make the .iso from a folder with the default.xbe, the evox.ini, the dummy, and the skins folder (if i want skins)?

yep, just make the dummy file like 1GB so you are sure alcohol will recognise as DVD. also, configure your evox.ini accordingly to your network so you don't have to make another disk...
BTW, what media/brand were you using?

the dvd-r's that had failed were all sonys. i dunno what i'm getting. my friend is giving them to me. also, in the .ini under "IP" what does it want, my pc's IP or my xbox's. i know both. (my home network consists of a router which runs a line into my room then i have a hub linking my pc and my xbox, if that means anything..

) is there anything else i should look out for in the .ini? thanks again

ok, since most routers have DHCP, just find this line in evox.ini:
StaticIP = No (make sure it says NO)...the router will assign an ip automatically
you may also try other media (i use maxell on my thomson and i know they work perfectly)
