ok this is my first post and I just want to make sure that this hard drive and this chip is what I'll need. I have EvolutionX Build 3935. So am I set as far as basic supplies go. I know this post is probably taking up space or whatever but I only have one shot at this and I don't want my xbox to turn into a doorstop. Thanks in advance

You need a bios to flash to your chip once it's installed. Also, if you want to swap the hard drive, brush up on how to modify the dashboard ini file to allow you to unlock the stock hard drive. Chances are you will have problems your first time out. If you are careful and stay with it, you will have it working in no time. Make sure you print out copies of all the tutorials you need as they are tough to find when you need them the most! Happy modding...

Just make sure you read all the tutorials on everything you want to do. I read for about half a month before I ever did anything to my xbox, and then when I felt confident, I began modding. I have yet to encounter a problem. smile.gif

and when you say I need a bios to flash onto the chip will this do?
atomiX
no, that bios is cromwell flashbios used to flash the chip. it's the legal bios that is located on the chip when you buy it.

you will need an X2 bios (i recommend 4981 or 4983).

just read the n00b tuts before modding and asking questions that are already answered in there. happy modding tongue.gif

flaming in the n00b forums is rare but it happens in the right circumstances (some deserve to be flamed)...and yes, reading is a good idea wink.gif

I hope this helps your situation....

I have the X2.3b Pro. Here is what I reccomend.......
Download the X2_4983.XX Bios. It is the latest and full of goodies. The XX means .06 or .67. They are the same except for how they read the larger drive. .67 creates another partition while the .06 doesnt and just expands upon the D drive (I an pretty sure that is accurate) I used the .67. Create a 100MB dummy file using dummy file creator (download). Once that is done you need to create a 512K .bin file. I used X2BM (X2 Bios Manager). It is really simple. So now you should have a 100MB dummy file named DUMMY.bin and another files named BIOS.bin (needs to be in CAPS, that is just how it works...no explanation). Create the CDRW using nero and follow the tutorials. You need to burn an ISO CD. I can send the link later if you dont have it.
After your CD is burned it is time to flash. I was paraniod as fuck at this point....hoping I wouldnt screw up my box. Put the cd in (make sure your switches are set to flash..mine was 1MB mode (it will only flash the first 512 bank), I dont know what your is). If you boot it up regular you should see cromwell and the drawer should eject. Put the disk in and let it flash. (I used Office Depot and Sony CDRW media..that worked for me).

After that it is now time to create your EVOX dash boot CD. This file is an ISO File you will be creating. I used Craxtion ISO creator. If you go to their web page download the XP version. There was some bug that needed to be patched inthe other version. DO NOT USE XISO. I used it and it didnt work. So dont waste your time. You will of course need the EVOX 3935 dashboard files in order to do this. Both file versions as mentioned above should be in this download. Inside you will need to modify the EVOX.ini file to fit your network settings and rename the .xbe file to default.xbe in order for the dash to boot (The mod chip looks for that file durring the boot up). You will also need another dummy file. So using the same program mentioned earlier for your bios create a 50-100MB file (I used 50) and rename it abc.dat.

Now open the Craxtion ISO creator and place these files inside:
50-100MB Dummy file (abc.dat)
.xbe file (default.xbe)
.ini file (evox.ini)
and the SKIN folder frovided in the 3935 download.

NOTE this file is not burned in NERO like the BIOS was. I made that mistake. Follow the Tuts exactly on this one. I am using NERO 6 and origonally couldnt find the right tool so I used whatever. Hmmm. Mistake? Haha.

Now if all that went smoothly insert the disk while reading the 1st bank or whatever your chip has and you should nee the EVOX dashboard.

Well that is where I am at in the process. I got a bad download of Flash FXP soI couldnt backup the XBOX Drive. (I too am installing a 160GB Drive).
I will let you know as my progress continues.

NOTE:I do highly reccomend the X2 bios and the EVOX Dash is pretty much standard. The M7 bios requires you to change the bios somehow to increase the drive capacity(I didnt want to go there).

Happy Modding.
