question about the ftp speeds... , sometimes mostly when i ftp a game to my pc's hdd , i get speeds like 6000 - 7000 kb/sec etc..
but when I transfer it then back to my xbox's hdd, lets say on the F partition, i only get speeds like 400 kb/sec , very slow... what's up with that ?
Jan 10 2003, 06:23 PM
Is it the original disk?
Jan 10 2003, 06:25 PM
yes it is... just transferred HALO to my pc's hdd, getting 7000kb/sec, now i'm transferring it back to my xbox's HDD to the F partition and i get 450kb/sec ...... doesn't make any sense .....
Jan 10 2003, 06:26 PM
You can not get speed of 6MB to 7MB/s transfering From Xbox DVD to PC.
Jan 10 2003, 06:27 PM
yeah sure as hell, it does get 6000 - 7000 kb/sec from xbox DVD ==> pc's HDD , I just did it , so it does get that kind a speeds from xbox to pc
Jan 10 2003, 06:31 PM
Technically the DVD drive should do this speed pecusio
DVD 1x = 2.1MB/s
Jan 10 2003, 06:32 PM
i can prove it , i'll make a screenshot , i get speeds of 6 - 7mb/sec from xbox dvd --> pc's hdd
Jan 10 2003, 06:33 PM
Candyman what version of Evox Dash are you running?
Jan 10 2003, 06:33 PM
the latest EvolutionX_beta_V1.8.3285
Jan 10 2003, 06:35 PM
so nobody knows , why i can get 6 - 7mb/sec from xbox dvd ---> pc's hdd and if I transfer back from pc's hdd ==> xbox HDD , i only get 450 kb/sec ????
Jan 10 2003, 06:35 PM
Hmmmm there shouldn't be a problem.
Have you tried using a xover cable?
There is a issue with transfer speeds to the f: drive only on the original drives
Jan 10 2003, 06:37 PM
Just a thought but if you have tried eveything else try swithing the properties of you pc NIC to half duplex and see if that makes a difference. you might also try a different FTP client
Jan 10 2003, 06:38 PM
ok , gonna try other ftp client , i'm using a hub and my nic is set to auto. so that should be ok
Jan 10 2003, 06:40 PM
Try the cross over cable Idea if all else fails mate
Jan 10 2003, 07:07 PM
just tried total commander , speeds seem almost the same as with flashfxp.... 450 - 500kb/sec , upload speed from pc => xbox
darn , thats slow
Jan 10 2003, 07:09 PM
anybody has an idea ????
Jan 10 2003, 07:22 PM
Jan 10 2003, 07:29 PM
The only other thing to try would be the cross over cable. What speeds to you get to the E: drive just out of curiousity?
Jan 10 2003, 07:33 PM
i just tried to the C and E , i get upload speeds of 6mb/sec !!!
only the F seems fucking slow !!! what's going on here....?????
Jan 10 2003, 07:37 PM
This was the problem others were having the other day, I don't think there was a fix for it in the end.
Try to reformat the f drive using RAW commands from your FTP client.
What kinda drive do you have?
Jan 10 2003, 07:40 PM
I have the orriginal seagate 20gb
Jan 10 2003, 07:42 PM
That's why then. If you look at my earlier post you will see that I mentioned that there is a problem with original SEAGATE drives.
Looks like you'll have to get another drive I am afraid!
Take a look at Xbox-scene
Jan 10 2003, 07:50 PM
strange stuff...... hmmm , and you fixed it simply with the latest dashboard ...?
i don't get it , on the site http://evox.xboxhackz.net/
it states FTP speed improvement... upload speeds arround 5000 kb/sec....
very strange i find this
Jan 10 2003, 07:51 PM
and reformatting the F , has somebody tried that ??? reformat using the dashboard , or another way, i dunno, just guessing here.....
Jan 10 2003, 07:54 PM
Reformat using RAW commands
Not been tried before but it might work, we are covering new ground here.
The new Dash worked for ME but obviously not many others. Try the RAW command and reformat the F drive (Not using the Dashboard but using an FTP client on a PC)
Jan 10 2003, 07:57 PM
and how do i do that ? just send raw command like this :
highlight the F in flashfxp and then send RAW command : format
Jan 19 2003, 05:07 AM
im getting really slow speeds. 7kbps. i just got the network up and running.
100 base full duplex mode
waht can i do to fix this? sorry if this isnt the right thread for this.
Jan 19 2003, 05:19 AM
These are the RAW FlashFXP commands:
1. "Formatpath \Device\Harddisk0\Partition6" <---- F partition
You will receive a [key] reply from the Xbox that will appear in your FTP client
2. "Formatdrive [key]" (obviously you’d enter the actual key that you received, not [key])
Jan 19 2003, 03:28 PM
im only sending at 10mbit =/ so im getting around 1000kbps - 2000kbps from my pc to xbox
Jan 27 2003, 04:44 PM
having the same problem of yours....I have not figured it out.....been trying for months..
I have tried every setting that you can think of..........I think it is all about the HD in the xbox.....
with the orig. HD in the xbox I get speeds to and from comp. at about 7 Mbits per second
with my samsung 40 gig in the xbox I get about 5-7 mbits uploading to the comp, but only about 800 kbits downloading from comp. to xbox..........
I use a crossover cable.....flashfxp.....winxp......full or half duplex(i get same results)
I have tried so many things........the conclusion I come to is the Harddrive.......that is the only thing that gives me a big change in results.......
just a little of my expirence I wanted to share.....
BTW did you solve your problem?
Feb 6 2003, 01:15 PM
I have the same problem as Candyman but I have problem with my orig. HD. I can only get speeds around 400 kbits to my E: disk.
Bummer. I takes 1.5 hour to download a game to it
Feb 6 2003, 06:55 PM
I posted about this in the other thread. I was getting horrible speeds uploading from PC to Xbox (around 400kbps). I've tried WS_FTP and FlashFXP with same results. I've tried setting my NIC settings to every combination possible (half/full duplex, 10/100 speed, and auto-detect). After replacing the original Seagate drive with a Western Digital WD1200BB (7200RPM 120gig) drive, I'm getting upload speeds of 3MB/sec (24mbps). It's better than before but it's still no where near saturating the network.
FYI, my PC is running Windows XP and my NIC card is a D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (10/100 auto-sensing). The PC and the xbox are both hooked up to a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless access point/router/4-port switch with standard CAT-5e cables (Note that communication between the PC and xbox is NOT going over the wireless so that is not the problem). I'm running the latest version of EvoX 1.8.3285 (i think). It's whatever one comes with the Slayer's Auto-Install ISO that was just released.
I've tried to narrow down the problem by running disk drive benchmarks on my PC to make sure my computer is reading from the hard drive fast enough. Sure enough, it's reading at around 24MB/sec from the C: drive (40gig Maxtor ATA/133). I'll probably do a packet dump of a transfer and see if I can find anything "wierd" there.
Feb 6 2003, 10:07 PM
i get the same speeds as you do (davidarcher2000), i got the orig 10 gig seagate drive, with high proformance rj45 cables, and a linksys cable/dsl router
my card in my computer is a CNet PRO200WL
Feb 7 2003, 03:38 AM
okay i was getting the same shit speed. but i know why now... because my best friend is a network genius he told me what i was doing wrong. first off make sure your computer is on a brodcast IP mine is 192.168.1.7 i set my computer on that IP then make sure your xbox is on a IP close to that number. once you have that done. make your computer have 2 ip's one for the net and one for the xbox. set your subnet on your PC to 255.255.255.128 so the brodcast is shorted and its not going all over the place and tada it would get your super fast speeds. i was getting 300kbs... now i am going 6MB up and i DL from the xbox at 25 down.
Feb 7 2003, 03:29 PM
Still no help. Tried tweaking those IPs etc. but no help. I'm getting 10 Megabytes of the xbox with 100 Megabit connection but when I try to upload something I only get this 470 KB. HD is Samsung's 40G and the partition used is F. Any more good suggestions what to try?
Feb 7 2003, 03:43 PM
When i first connected ftp to my xbox i was also getting very slow speeds, but i fixed the problem with internet turbo 2002 which i used to modify my LAN winxp settings now my connection is all zoom zOOM ZOOOOOMMMM! It made 1 heck of a difference i'm not kidding find it on kazzaalite......but after u get dont with your xbox u must use the program to reset the settings for your internet connection...
"knowledge is power but what good is power if u can't brag about it.."
Feb 7 2003, 05:13 PM
Hey, it worked! I'm now getting 2000KB upload to my xbox. There are three different automatic setting in that software and this is with option #1. Maybe these others will give us more.
My OS is WinXP so it seems to me that MS hasn't optimized it fully. Thanks D3AdMan.

Mine xfrs at about a 1mb up and down. I think that's pretty much the average. But my MTU settings are messed because I have it set slower so I loose less packets because I was playing online games. I'll jack it back up and see what kind of speed I get.
