it seems funny in the US u guys seem to hate civics, over here in the UK they are thought of as awesome - they are relativley fast and economical and can be tuned up to be quick and look the nuts - whats the beef? i mean americans can hardly claim to have the best sense of car design just look at the new BMW's and the dodge ram, ugly looking things they are. however things like that car, i believe its called an 'intrepid' is that a dodge? look suprisingly good. - anyway i just wondered what was the issue with civics?

The issue is not with the car itself, but what stupid people do to the car. Every 16 year old kid slaps a 5" exhuast tip on, an intake, and a 4" high wing and thinks they have a race car. You see so many of them that way you just tend to hate the car after a while. I myself have a 90 CRX with nothing done aesthetically (sp?) (aside from wheels, 15" --> the only practical size), and get quite a kick out of whomping everyone's ass on an auto-x course on my Hoosiers. wink.gif

Yeah a Civic is a great reliable car to get your grandma where she needs to go.

Its just that its a terrible car to race because its really slow but since its so cheap 40% (its true i checked the facts) of high school kids get on from their parents. Then they decide "Hey this car is bitchin! i bet i could beat a ferreri if i only got a body kit and NOS Stickers".

Not to mention their ugly.

I kinda like the looks personally but I think that the whole Fast And The Furious culture has made them such a Dime A Dozen everywhere in the world (cosmetically modded Civics) that they are hated. I will never diss a Civic for it's fuel economy. They are among the best, but the dumb teenage kids who try to race them are the ones who give them a bad name. As far as making them fast???? Give me a break. Plenty of cars out there that can be modded to beat the living piss out of a civic for less money (a lot less).

I'm 100% agreeing with every response here. To be fair though it's not a hatred of Civics, it's a hatred of Honda now more than anything.

The same thing is being done to Accords and Preludes too. I think Honda makes more money of V-Tec stickers than they do off the cars here. I'm all for people wanting to make their car into some eye candy, that's their choice and I support that. However the people who think by doing these things they're making a "10-Second Car" are sadly mistaken. Body kits and wings all slow a car down. I do have a body kit on my Saturn, but I don't race it, and under the hood outside of the turbo and intake setup it's a fairly stock Saturn. Aron mentioned he does autocross, can't do it with a body kit, and drag racing with one you're creating drag. It's not how it's done in real life. You go for speed or you go for looks, but it's very hard to have the best of both worlds with any economy car.

I'm changing my stance here too, we're not against Hondas or Civics, we're against "Ricers" and the "Ricer" mentality.

Here in Hawaii, one out of every four cars you see is a Civic with ugly-ass Altezza tail lights and a huge exhaust. They sound like someone farting, and look even worse.

(Of course, there are a few nice ones that stand out)

I can see why people can get disgusted with some Civics. there are some people that practicly get plane parts and put them on there car. there is a limit, as for me an owner of a Honda Civic 2000 Ex i don't go that way.

BTW: tell me what you think ?

lol .....good one, you had me laughing.

it looks like any other civic around here in austin, tx. Unless you have something under the hood you wouldn't get a second look. It isn't the fact that i hate civics, it's just he people who drive them! Why would some one in a stock civic pull up for a race against a cobra that is a 12.5 without the spray....i dunno some ppl are stupid.

though we do have a select few civics in the area making over 450 hp!!
Psykomantis00
I love my luda. The engine is stock other than the intake exaust and turbo but I dont race it. Its for looks. The only reason I got a turbo was for the blow off valve sound. I just love that sound. And my luda isnt loud and anoying, the exaust is a cat back not just a tip, has a deep low growl to it not a high pitched wine.

Tell me what you think.

Very NICE car. I like those rims, how big are they?
Psykomantis00
17 inchers. The wing on the back is stock btw, I dont like big ass wings. I would rather it not be there but idk y I kept it.

Preludes are always nice. It is near impossible to fuck up a Prelude. Love it.

Here's my issue with Civics. (And bear in mind this is all based on too many morons driving them), ........ VTECH. or VTEK or however the idiot improperly spells it. Honda has made some very nice high revving, low torque, average HP cars. Reliable and economical. And due to that every high school kid does minor mods and thinks that they have the next Supercar when a Foxbody Stang would tear it to pieces for half the price.

Due to the F&F movies and the perceived greatness of VTEC, (Which is good technology but there are other good things in other engines as well. Mazda's VICS and VRIS for example.), the price of Hondas has risen to an unreasonable level in many areas.

A civic is a great car. As is a Lude or Accord. But they are NOT amazing performance machines. Even with mods they are still inferior to many other cars on the market. I'd gladly drive one as a commuter car. And probably mod it a bit just because. But it would NEVER be a sports car.

A Civic......

is FWD............Strike one...........

a 4 banger...........Strike two..........

has reasonably poor weight distro...... Strike three..... You're out.

Keep in mind I understand modding cars. We don't do it to be fast. We do it to be different and because it is in our blood. I probably own one of the fastest Probes around. (I've heard rumors fastest in my area handsdown.) Raced a Dinan M3 (Thought it was a 325I. i'm retarded.), and might as well have used the 2nd to reverse shift technique. Totally out of my league. And I've wasted well over 10K on my car. And that's just the big mods like headers. suspension, engine and rebuild parts, etc. If I started adding the little things like testpipes, plugs, wires, tools to grind and make parts I'm sure it'd get much bigger quick.

I also own my pride and joy. 1987 Chevy Sprint. Not nearly as powerful or as fast. Rescued from a junkyard and it's as rare as any Ferrarri. 3 cylinder, 1 liter, turbo. And my ONLY goal is to beat Civics with it. wink.gif
MoeMan949222
wow what's your problem man !!!
why all the hating for?
Man i seee a bunch of wimps driving around in dodge neons and try to pull up next to me to race. People are just hating Civics because they were in movies SUCH AS F&F, because they are the most car that you can mod in its class. I am not saying it's the best car out there but you got to give it some props !!
Do you even know what V-tech is ??

not to diss or anything but damn man thats a hunk of Junk brought back from the past, and you dedicated yourself to beat Civics. well Good Luck cause you'll need it.

This is why I hate Civics...........

And V-Tech is a phone company. VTEC is an engine acronym that stands for Variable valve Timing and Electronic Control.

most car you can mod in it's class??? What the hell does that mean? It's class is econobox, so even if you can mod it, you're still gonna own an econobox thats modded. And I believe I did give it props. It's a reliable economy car that is very well built. It is not, and never will be a sports car.

As far as F&F goes.......
I wouldn't want my car in a movie that uses terms like "double clutching". All it would do is add that many more riced out Probes onto the streets and inflate the prices on my car.

Well it IS a hunk of junk. It was when brand new. As cheap as econoboxes get. And I'm sure most of em have dissolved in the rain. But...... It's little 3 cylinder, 1.0 Liter, is turbo charged in this case. (I can't find production numbers, but the turbo 5 speeds seem fairly rare.) And this engine churns out a mind numbing 70hp and 107 ft/lbs of torque stock. That's good enough for a 16 second pass in the 1/4. (Golly Gosh, that's Civic territory there......) As far as moddability goes, any fool knows a turbo car is easier to mod. My homemade MBC has certainly given the car a noticable jump in HP. Add to that a full custom exhaust (no cat) and a homeade CAI (If you can tell me where to buy a Sprint CAI you're a better man then I) and the car's quarter times now hold solid at around 15.2. I can push more boost easily. But I need a clutch and some tires. (They even make performance metro clutches blink.gif ) So I guess my thoughts are not that I'll need luck, but the Civic owner will.

I agree with Rylinkus 100%. I think that Hondas are great Economy cars and all in all they aren't bad looking, however, the idea of turning a honda into a sports car is just plain rediculous. You can turn a Honda into a Sports car but you are talking about spending HUGE amounts of money to do so. VTEC is over-rated. It is nice but it certainly doesn't justify the aditional pricetag. Bottom line-you get a Honda if you want a fuel-efficient car that looks decent. If you want a sports car get something else. Rylinkus makes some good points there about his turbo sprint. Yes it doesn't have as much power but it is all about how power and weight are distributed. A Honda Civic easily weighs 600-700lbs. more than his Sprint and unless the Honda Civic has had some serious mods to it, it simply doesn't have the acceleration that his Sprint does. There is a world of difference between an N/A engine and a Turbo Engine in terms of acceleration. You just don't get that power kick with an N/A that you do with a turbo. wink.gif
I've got to also agree about the non-mathing gay-ass body kit parts that you see on them. Also WTF is the obsession with the "car-wreck" grey paint jobs that some of them have? WTF looks cool about having a car that looks like it came from the salvage yard? dry.gif
MoeMan949222
Hey man i agree with you in some points. Like that is an ugly car, i dont know what that guy was thinking, but hey man i am not out there to drag race people or have a 5 second car. Honda Civics are in general are good cars.

I like my car because its cheap, reliable and good on gas. They can take a beating and hold its price value.

I can see the anti civic hatred but o well i can't do anything about it.

I have said several times and will again, Civics are wonderful cars. I applied for a job and if I get it will be considering replacing the Probe with a more reliable ride and a Civic is on the list. (Sports car to be found come winter.) I love the 94-96 hatch. (Think I'm right on years) Reliable, good looking, not slow as all hell, and decent gas mileage. (Compared to the Sprint nothing can be great. wink.gif )

BTW, don't know what a Civic weighs, but to put my Sprint on ramps 4 guys lifted the entire car and a fifth slid 4 ramps under it. (bumpers won't clear the ramps well driving on em.) 1500 pounds, which means I make up over 10% of the vehichle weight once I get in it.

That they are but a number of people try to make them (and drive them) like race cars and that is why they have developed a bad name for themselves. The civic was intended to be an economy car and nothing more. wink.gif
