Yes, me too. biggrin.gif I fixed something which is definately a show-stopper with kernels 5530+ and PBL. I have tested this only on a slightly modified 5838 retail BFM bios and it works (whereas other PBL versions don't.) I haven't tested this on real 5530+ box so I'm not sure if there are some other problems, but this one is fixed. So, please, 5530 and 5713 kernel owners, test it. It should work on v1.6 boxes too then, but there's no BFM bios for them yet.

If this PBL works, maybe someone (me?) will make a BFM bios out of EvoX M8 for 5838 (and others). Also, I'll submit a package with source code to the usual places.

The problem that's fixed now is that the newer kernels set the code segment size to something too small for the bootloader (2bl) to be accessible.

This is based on PBL 1.3. You must put the correct RC4 key and EEPROM key to boot.cfg. In case you have problems, change Debug from false to true in boot.cfg and inspect the created log file (pbldebug.log) after running PBL.

I see that Tomilius suggested someone to work on the 5530+ problem. I'm not quite that fast. biggrin.gif I had already this done. smile.gif

EDIT: forgot to mention. The package doesn't contain a bios image, so you'll need to get one from the usual places (a BFM (Bootable From Media) image!) and place it as xboxrom.bin in the same directory as the PBL. Try X2 4981 or EvoX M7.

EDIT2: now beta2.

EDIT3: forgot to sign beta 2 with habibi. Fixed now.

EDIT4: Problems with older Xboxes hopefully fixed now. Thanks to Tomilius and Ldots (for the information in the pbl-should-be-fixed thread).

EDIT5: just replaced the old beta3 with the latest.

EDIT6:
QUOTE (rmenhal @ Dec 6 2004, 11:47 AM)
I found out the linking process in PBL 1.3 is broken and produces broken XBEs. PBL Metoo is based on PBL 1.3. I don't know if this could be the reason for hangs with some boxes. I rewrote the linker script and recompiled and linked the same bios loader which comes with metoo-m8plus-v1.4.1.

I guess the edit feature was removed from these forums, so I put the fixed XBE here:

Yes! Way to go, rmenhal! I haven't tried it since I don't have a kernel that high...

But you are the man for at least working on it! And even more so if it works!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LafferUSA
Seriously, you should make Xbox 2!
Chicken Scratch Boy
bravo!

all we need now in an XDK compile smile.gif

laffer, quit babbling!
devz3ro
A loader that works on all versions of the xbox, (the nkpatcher does, but lets hope now that team xecuter releases a bios that supports 5838 for their igr purposes) now thats what we were searching for, well what I was atleast. The remakes of the original PBL just to make it faster were nice and all but with no new features kind of made it feel as if it were a "re-inventing the wheel project". If you are able to make a BFM bios from the Evolutionx m8 final I believe this can and pretty much will make all other PBL versions obsolete.

If you need any help getting any files to the "usual places" feel free to contact me at any time.

keep up the outstanding work.

i'd expect fbl and pbl lite to be switching to metoo BLs soon

btw fbl... frosting = features

for the 5713 kernel, the only way to get this to work is to load a gamesave hack everytime...basically leaving 007/MA in the dvd tray correct??

comtemplating whether to flash the tsop instead or not

if you want to back up games then, by all means, TSOP

otherwise, MA is ok

As a reply to this and Tomilius' post, please do not get me wrong. I am not putting your hard work and dedication down in any way. The above was just my view of this new software vs. the existing. As I was saying the owner of X-S the other day, it would be nice if I could get a few people from this forum (yes including you Tomilius) to form a team to try and pick up where Team Phoenix left off. I have started something with gmail accounts so most of us can communicate outside of this board. We work together for the most part, but if we did more closely we would get more things done better and faster. Being able to brand a *team* name into your releases would be nice also wink.gif

don't you think?

P.S. When I get home from work tomarrow morning (working 3rd shift 12am - 8am sad.gif) I will TSOP up to try this on K:5713
Tomilius
That's more like it. biggrin.gif And sounds like a plan.

I just hoped you weren't referring to mine when you said there were "no new features." Because I could easily get rid of them... wink.gif

P.S. X-S looks a lot like a dead and confused emoticon.

If you maybe want to see the pbldebug.log just let me know. BTW, i used X2 4983 BFM. wink.gif

what can this do that nkpatcher can't ? For 5713+ retail kernel, the ROE issue is still here right ?

you know what would be absolutely amazing? integrating ftp support into pbl because sometimes my dash/bios is messed up or something then i have to load up 007 (or use my doubledash fonts) to recover. just a thought, but that really has nothing to do with anything right now.

If your launching from a gamesave, yeah ROE will always be there. However, PBL - ME (Metoo Edition tongue.gif) has the ability to load any new bios (for newer kernals only evox m8 is available... for now) so the features of the bios are there.

NKpatcher was just a temporary solution to the problem, it was even said that it had nowhere near the number of features as the latest Bioses. PBL - ME, allows version 1.6 boxes all the advantages of the new bios, except ROE of course...

Or even more amazing! Advanced tray state checking and die and noob protection! I can't wait for someone to make that... Then I could easily have nkpatcher6 launch my chosen XBE on error and FTP from there! If only such a BIOS loader existed!

That's the beauty of the dual-habibi. In ldot's package, boot tray-open, goes straight to the gamesave hack (no pbl, mxm for ftp access, + extras)
Boot tray closed, =pbl

Very convenient for testing all these yummy new pbl revisions tongue.gif

If you see a bunch of zeroes in the header area when you hex edit, it's not. Otherwise, it is signed with something, most-likely habibi.

Actually rmenhal did go a step further than he originally planned. His latest nkpatcher (6) has most if not all of the M7 bios patches added to it. This was made to work on all kernels including 5530, 5713, and 5838. I'm guessing that his latest nkpatcher and this PBL 5530+ edition w/evox m8 bfm will have similar if not identical effects on the xbox. I was hoping for 2 things to happen in the near future (which would make this new PBL better than the nkpatcher):

1. A bootstrap found for K:5713+ users (My money is on PedrosPad wink.gif)
2. Team Xecuter to release a 1.6 compatible bios

I could be wrong.

No you're not. After I posted that I remembered he did integrate most of M7 into NKpatcher. Still, NKpatcher isn't completely customisable, when someone figures out how to convert and edit the M8 bios to whatever they want, then NKpatcher will quickly be surpassed.
Tomilius
Or you could use nkpatcher in addition to the customization you desire... lol, okay, I'm done.

I have a mixed thought about this, seeing what the extreme MS has gone :-)

? explain extreme?

if anyone does it, it'll be one of those cool guys, that have been around for a while (pedro, angerwood, rehmal(dunno if the later two hasve developed or worked on developing exploits, but meh))

change the kernel to not allowing previous dashboard programs to run, that I call extreme.

So, I am not sure if I want to see the new exploits(if there is any), to be gone public that soon. Let MS populate the market with some more Xbox they think to be safe, that is what I meant.

Are they any new Xbox on the horizon ? I don't mean Xbox 2 but just refined current version.
anjilslaire
Weird. I dropped it into my setup, and it wouldn't load. Hmm......
Chicken Scratch Boy
maybe it's high kernal only...?

worked for that other guy
Tomilius
Hmm. Probably. I had no question that it worked but when I tried it the video output was murdered and nothing but a kernel crash.

I would be more helpful and paste the contents of pbldebug.log ... but... well here it is actually:

I wouldn't go as far as extreme. It's a patch, nothing more, nothing less, something that they actually do regularly. It's obvious we are dealing with M$ here, nothing they put out is above the alpha stage imo. A vast majority (if not every single one cool.gif) of their products require many updates within the first 6 months of it going gold. It's sad because it is a closed-source organization. As for a bootstrap, I wouldn't call it impossible, yes it is hard but we have a few working on it as we speak. I was given a chance to view their progress, and if I could give them more than two thumbs up I would. How about two thumbs and a big toe? laugh.gif anyways, look forward to this in the near future, hopefully we can get something brewing smile.gif

That is a 1.4, to my knowledge K:5101 & K:5713 are 1.4s and the rare K:5530 is classified as a 1.5. As for 1.6, they only come as K:5838 (because of the new video support). rmenhal pointed out before that as early as K:5530 there was signs of M$ implementing xcalibur support.

Regaring finding a higer Kernal update.xbe or similer file to exploit.

Has anyone thoght of looking on one of the Live! Kit DVDs??

I mean, these DVDs MUST be designed to work on ANY xbox in order to update the system state etc...

Maybe they have an exploitable file that can run on any Kernal?

Just an idea, it may not work with newer xboxs as they wouldnt need to be upgraded therefore the file wouldnt need to be able to run if you see what I mean...

It's the "XBE_MEDIA_XBOX_DVD" that is the problem. Files (new or not) that contain this do us no good as a 5713+ bootstrap as they will only boot from a *xbox* dvd. Hacking the file, touching a single bit will smash the signature, giving us a non-working file. Any *.xbe files from a xbox dvd will have this "XBE_MEDIA_XBOX_DVD" attribute.

Nice. smile.gif Now if this is found working on 5713 kernels too, then I'll see about making that EvoX M8 BFM (though I don't think it would currently have much advantage over nkpatcher, but maybe xbtool will change that.)

The root post has beta 2 now. Allocating memory with MmAllocateContiguousMemoryEx (in place of malloc, which is not implemented) seemed to be causing some random crashing, so I got rid of that.

Apart from minor bugs, there shouldn't be any reason why this version of PBL doesn't work with older kernels. I just tried beta 2 with a 4034 BFM and it worked. The crash could be Conexant related though (I only tested with a Focus Xbox).
Tomilius
Take out the HalWriteSMBusValue after IoOutputByte, yep. Or make it Focus-only.

Or try moving it to the "very beginning" of code? That is, right after the configuration is parsed, as long as much doesn't happen before the configuration parsing.

P.S. What did I tell you? Interesting developments around July 4th. Was I right or what? ... It's only over a week from Independence Day.
Flame2k
gr8 work, looks like more or less everything has been accomplished lol (until (if there is such a thing) xbox 1.7 arrives lol)

i guess, all thats left is to get some dashboard exploits working on these higher kernels. which would be something really special.

There must be a way!
