Ok so i've it skinned up how i want:

Got a cupla questions though.
Can i map the meshes with diffrent textures (would like a slightly more solid look on the crosshair and ring (xsphere?)?
I cant seem to get new .xbgs in. either they are all white (^answer for question 1 might help) or they blackscreen the dash. Could someone help with the code for adding new .xbgs?

Is it possible to ad fog in the center of the screen. Like in the original MS dash and UnleashX?
The cellwall background would look much better then.

It is possible but we cant get it working

spook has atempted over & over & no luck with fog that skin would look kick ass even more

. Its got something 2 do with the way nexgen renders . We can call fog from a blank lua & it will load but if we call it from a lua that has otehr code in it wont render its as if nexgen is over righting the fog code

If any 1 could help us find a solution it be great.

well, i dont know lua at all (only what i needed to learn in order to skin this bad boy) but if its possible to overlay a background pic maybe we could dummy up the fog by using a mostly transparent png?
dunno know just a thought.

yellow - comes like first pic but has instructions and files to change to second (very easy) also option to make crosshair orbring more solid.


what colour next? i'm thinking pink.

ok heres the files to change the cellwall in my other nexgen skins (i like it better this way

right click/save as then rename to outersphere.bmp drop in relevent xdash folder.

hey bucko, i've also sent red yellow and green skins to upload at XOS from the link in first post but you might want to check em cos after upload the page said 'upload successful' then it gave an error about upload too big

if you like it the default way better open up mainmenu.lua and look for this:

hey does the skin switching code work atm? i'm probably missing something obvious but i've tried everything i can think of to get skin swapping happening in dash but any mods or new skin lua's i create just freeze the dash on skin select screen. sorry if this is really simple and i'm asking a dumb question.

That is a bug we introduced when we started using object cacheing. It will be fixed in an upcoming version

Hi, no box this morn i so i've made an orb template for neXgen
Here's a pic:

It was made with max/illustrator ('X' grabbed from XBtool) but i can make it a .psd template for ease. It's 2 layers one for sphere and one for the X. i know it looks really plain but in a pic editing app you can add lighting/filters etc. adjust colours by layer to suit with hue/saturation and resize all elements. it will come out about 1 meg and is legal of course. lemme know if you want it. can't post it here.
SpOok - cool was driving me nuts. UX - the skin swappers choice. Also, just who is this mystery coder - i have my suspicions

My mainmenu no longer has an orb. Its a cylinder with a flat front face with the X mapped onto it. I did this because the current models made a black line around the X logo when viewed at a slight angle, and distorted the image slightly. If you made your X template the same size as the orignal X logo they will work fine in my new mainmenu.

Yes were talking about the "X" logo in the orb. No it means mapping an image looks better. The orbring still spins. Also I can replace the orb with anything you can imagine (or get rid of it altogther to see the holders behind it). We can spin the X logo if you really want, but it would look ass on the old orb cause of the black band around it (a circle in a black square) With my way we can spin it like a coin with logo on front and back which I think will look better (no black lines). But if you want a sphere with an image mapped onto it, that is easy too (just not a round image like the current one).

Notice the strangeness in the inner part of the Ring around the orb. It kinda has like a cross effect over the whole thing, will look into fixing that, although the new rendering may fix it anyway. Please if you notice any glitches in the mapping please let me know. (Try one without the Logo Orb in the centre) I'm fairly sure the inner arms of the crosshair are screwed near the centre. As gas said, no point in upping any stuff as neXgen is changing radically, just to see models work okay with any skin on em, I didn't get time to check various maps.

Its all good. the only thing i've noticed is that the orb claws(?) dissappear behind the left side of the orb and are more pronounced on the right. does one of the axis (is it the z?) need to be swung around a fraction?
Nope, It's the angle your viewing the orbring at so the appear to move behind the x Sphere. Can you try one with no xsphere for me, I wanna see the inner claw fully (Its has a gitch in max). Also I can move the xsphere back a little, that will help.
Just put a -- in front of the xsphere code in the .lua, just as a test.
How do you find the ease of skinning ?
Anything to make life easier ? I am spilitting all the menutabs up too so there will be another 7 maps involved, 8 or 9 when I get the tubes in. Too much ? or the more the merrier (Obviously I won't make em all as small as they can be, lol)
Skinners now is the time to speak up, cause I aint redoing the models once I'm done.

I cant see the glitch on the claw - looks great (but it does block out a bit of the xsphere on up down menu movement).
skinnings been improved like 1000 percent, cos, now there are textures _and_ they work

new code will help a lot tho. yep, i say break em up, more is more heh, providing the code could pull em all from one file if need be.

I see it (the small squares near the centre, and that black ring). But it looks like it's supposed to be there. Thats what I was hoping for

hehe. Maybe I included the wrong sphere, I'll look into it. I'm glad the mapping works, I wasn't sure it would work as well as it is for all images. It's just good to get extra eyes looking at them, you get sick of looking at it after a while. Thanks Gasclown.
The new code will make this look 10 times better again (at least). This is just so I can make sure the models are good the way I'm doing em, and to get comments on them. Also to keep neXgen in the news

I hope this gets people downloading it for a try now, so they get totally blown away when we get the new code.
What do you think of size and placement too ?
Imma going to hold off the tubes for a while sick of that menu already, music menu next

. anyway i think moving the xsphere a tad back will be good. As for size and placement i think they all look great. although with no xsphere the tabs look heavy - but if theres no scalable code its nothing the right bitmaps couldn't subdue.
but this is just my opinion ... and im getting sick of hearing it

, i wanna hear some others.

Not sure what language we will be using but i think there will be a beta out soon. Dont hold me on that

Any 1 have any ideas on what language we should use for our skins?

Bloody .lua removed when i first read it didnt understand it now i rewrote it so that skin changing works but fuck lol its being changed.. but i like c++ its an easy language that will let people minds run free in the creation of the dash and the skinning abilities thanks to PID for his sexy models will be awesome..
