You have 10 gray socks and 20 blue socks in your bureau drawer. If you reach into it in the dark, how many socks must you take out to be sure of having a pair that matches?

A hunter arose early, ate breakfast, and headed south. Half a mile from camp he tripped and skinned his nose. He picked himself up, cursing, and continued south. Half a mile farther along, he spotted a bear. Drawing a bead, he pulled the trigger, but the safety was on. The bear saw him and headed east at top speed. Half a mile later the hunter caught up, fired, but only wounded the beast, which limped on toward the east. The hunter followed and half a mile later caught and killed the bear. Pleased, the hunter walked the mile north back to his camp to find it had been ransacked by a second bear. What color was the bear that tore up his camp?

Both bears are white --- since your at the North pole and hunting polar bears.

I used to HATE these types of puzzles on all those achievement exams .... so let's if anyone else likes 'em

Given the following sequence -- O T T F F S S
What is the next letter?
Cherry
Ok, I like this one - lets see if anyone can do it. If you knew the answer already, please don't reply wink.gif

Four spies are captured by the enemy. They are all blindfolded, and then buried up to their necks like this:

CODE

       ||
       ||
B     ||          W          B          W
O>  ||        <O        <O        <O
---------------------------------------------
A                 B          C            D

(excuse the ascii art)

The line between spy A and B is a brick wall.
The > and <'s are to show you which way the spies are facing.

Now, the spies cannot move at all. In fact they are told that if they try to move, or speak, they will all be shot dead. Somebody takes two white hats and two black hats, and places one hat on each of the spies heads (shown as B and W above), and then removes the blindfolds.

They are now told that in order to save their lives, they are allowed to speak just one word - the color of the hat that is on their head. They are told that two of them have black hats and two have white. They have just five minutes to get the color right or they will all be shot anyway.

Question:

Which spy escapes death ? How does he do it ?

2. Is it legal for a man to marry his widow's sister?

No, because he's dead if it's his widow's sister
Ace25
2. Is it legal for a man to marry his widow's sister?

Wouldnt the man be dead if its HIS widow's sister.. ie.. Wife's sister.

Damn you guys getting the answers in so fast..

And the spy thing.. dunno, guess would be A or D since they are on the ends and can see down the line at the other 3 people.. dunno why only one can survive though, at least 2 should.. the drawing is confusing.. what is the vertical lines beween A and B on top?

The one to answer last, since he (or she) will use a process of elimination based on what the others say and the outcome.

Nope. As soon as one answers wrong they will all be shot.

Anyway, even if everybody else got it wrong, how would that tell him what color HIS hat was ?

The hunter goes a mile south, a mile east, and then a mile north to end up back where he started. That would only happen at the poles. Can you picture why? Bear in mind the spherical shape of the earth (no pun intended biggrin.gif ).

You are a detective called to a case.

There is a car in a parking lot, snow all around, you can see the tire tracks where the car had been driven into the lot but no other tracks are near the car.

There is a person dead in the car.

The doors are all locked the windows are up and the keys are in the ignition.

The victim has been murdered with a gun shot to the heart.

There is no bullet holes, powder residue or bullet casing in or near the car. There is no gun or means of firing a bullet in the car.

You know immediately that the victim was shot from outside the car. How do you know?

There is a man who lives on the 14th floor of a high-rise apartment building. Each morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby to go to work. On evenings when it's raining, he takes the elevator up to the 14th floor. However, on evenings when it's sunny, he takes the elevator to the 10th floor and walks up the four remaining flights, unless there are others in the elevator. Why?

He can only reach the 10th floor button since he's too short. He needs to have somethign with him in order to reach the button for the 14th floor, and on the days its raining he uses the umbrella

Moses had a lot to do with the Ark, it was just a different ark (of the covenant). He also wrote about the boat-ark..

Exactly.. and since there's no bears at the south pole, process of elimination leads to the north pole.

haha.. that's a good one, made me think about it for a little bit. I've answered to many so I'll let this one be in order for others to take a shot ---

Here's a clue:
Reread this sentence after reading the whole paragraph "There is no bullet holes, powder residue or bullet casing in or near the car. There is no gun or means of firing a bullet in the car. "

This is a good one. I'm completely guessing here but here goes:

The guy has been shot outside the car, somewhere else. He stumbles to his car, starts it and drives off, locking the doors, trying to get away from his assailant. He reaches the car park and dies there.

Nah... the parked car dead guy one was new to me. I used to love trying to figure out these riddles so I've gotten pretty good at them. Heck, used to have that game that was made out of it, with the cards and the pictures that represented things..

can't remember the name of it, and to lazy to go up into the attic to find out.
