My cdrom had to be set to master to boot xboxhdm..that could also be your problem cause from the sound of it..its not even trying to boot the xboxhdm disk..

I have an idea which may solve my very small problem.
My computers power cables can't reach my xbox hard drive while it's screwed into my xbox. I don't like to unscrew the hard drive because it's a hassle with all the xbox's I mod.
Now I was wondering if I could use the power cable on my xbox to power it. What I would do is keep it plugged into the hard drive boot up the Xbox to where I get my error 21 (hard drive is locked now) and use that to run power to my hard drive that way I don't have to unscrew the hard drive and I can run the ide cable to the hard drive.

I'm thinking this won't cause any problems what do you think?

Ok prolly another dumb question by myself but as always I have nobody else to turn to....ok I have a new xboxd that I want to upgrade to a 120gb hdd....so I softmod the xbox using krayzies ndure installer....it softmods perfect...use kingroach's xboxhdm to upgrade hard drive like I have with all other hard drives....everything goes smooth with no errors...when I goto plug in upgraded hard drive the box boots to a retail dash....and the softmod goes corrupt.... (batch file . error's) anyone have any suggestions or anwsers on why this is happening? I am going to try an older version of one of krayzies installers as that is the one I have always used w/ xboxhdm but I ran outa juice tonight gonna do that tommarow....as always any help is GREATLY appriciated

what is the maximum hard drive gb you can have for upgrading the hard drive 137 or more can you tell me and after because my xbox version is 1.0 and i want to upgrading for more hard drive space so this article would apply to me and i need to first softmodd and then upgrade it so can i go 160 on the upgrading the hard drive

xbox can format upto 137Gb.. but if you can can have as much big hard rdive you want.. after you install the hard drive.. there is formatting tool in any dashboard.. just use them to format G drive and that will enable extra space..

After using this to upgrade the HD the only thing that is not working properly is, when there is no game installed, it boots the the original MS dash. It should boot to EvoX. I thought to myself maybe I just need to reinstall it. So I do the savegame expoit again and it boots but I get the option to uninstalled the expoit and a number of other settings but I can seem to get to the EvoX dash. Any ideas?

The only idea I got for you is to uninstall EvoX and reinstall.. see what happens...

okay ive been playing with these drives for the past two days.. and i cant get neither one of them to work in my xbox.. i followed all the possible tutorials on making the cd then copying files over and then locking the drive.. well the problem is at the locking part.. i type in lockhd -a and it starts looking and when it finishes it says
security supported: YES
security enabled : YES
locked: NO

i dont know why it wont lock either one of the drives. the drives came from an xbox and are not unlocked... and im having a hard time getting them locked

Hi, I'm new to the xbox world, and i'm from Chile, South America. I was given an Xbox and it was already softmodded when i got it, i made a mistake while transferring stuff to it by ftp, and erased the dash file, then, when i tried to get into the ftp i coudn't connect, i couln't find out how to fix it so i unplugged my xbox and gave up. then when i tried to use it again it didn't even play my original games. when i turn it on, i get the error #16, and basically my xbox is useless. i don't have any of my xbox files backed up, and i'm really frustrated, i've looked everywhere. is there anyway i can fix this? help would be muchly appreciated, i'm desperate.

I got you Pm.. in short you error 16 is certainly fixable.. First you need to hotswap and then restore C drive with xboxhdm.. here is a very good tutorial on how to hotswap:

yes.. thats why you need to hotswap.. you dont need any eeprom while hotswapping..

is there any way i can do this without hotswapping? the last time i did a hotwswap my mother board fried and i had to buy a new one? please help i don't want to burn my motherboard again

Copy files for xbox C:\ drive from slayers disk and put the files in xboxhdm's linux>C folder.

i think this means go to slayers disk, copy everything under C and put them into xboxhdm's linux>C folder. but \c is empty already so i dont have anything to copy. geez what the hell is this

I have a question about how to set up the xbox and computer for xboxhdm. I have my xbox opened and the only thing that is unplugged is the IDE cable for the DVD drive. I start my computer and then I stop it before it goes looking for the harddrives. I can set my computer BIOS to boot from the CD drive and then thats all I do. Then I restart my computer and pause it again before it looks. I then start my xbox and wait for it to load up. I have error 13 so it flashes red and green. I then hook up the computers IDE cable to the Xbox one as fast as I can. Now i press space and the the computer looks and all i get is a screen looking for DHCP. What is that? It doesn't find anything and says no boot filename found or something. What the heck am I doing wrong bcause i have tried like 3 times and it doesn't work at all. I have my cd and everything in the cd drive.

sup guys. im trying to do a new hdd install for someone, and ive done a few fine, but the hdd i recieved today is an ATA hdd and not an IDE im kinda lost to say the least. can i even use this type of HDD in the xbox? is there a connector or is it ide only?

also additonal help if it IS possible in figuring out what plugs where from my pc.. im kinda hardware dumb.

I Just Softmodded my old xbox!!!! and like everyone else am now wondering how to install a bigger HD.

First off...I have a XBOX with a faulty DVD-drive...so i was wondering if I could connect a second hard-drive right to the IDE cable where the DVD-Drive used to be. \

I used the Ndure3.0 installer for Xboxhdm made a bootable CD-RW and just copied the contets of the Ndure C and E folders over the original ones. If I take that same CD...add the EEPROM folder, and burn a new CD-RW... Could I just copy the same C and E contents along with the EEPROM folder to the Blank HD, Then Use Xboxhdm to Lock it?

I want to make a new HD as simply as possible...Will this work?

PS. anybody got a guess as to how long it takes before Softmods are available for XBOX 360?

I cannot disable via the DELL BIOS so far.
I have tried the unplug IDE cable after bios boot but it gives me a BIOS error and still doesnt work.

Can any one enlighten me on how to set Cable Select mode or Jumper calbes or what ever it is.

alright, so i have three questions.

1) so i followed all the instructions, made the iso cd and when i get to the step where it wants to partition my c:, it says that the cd is missing the C: and E: files and to enter the cd with them on it. i dont know what's wrong with it or how to get these files. i assumed that they were on the cd that you make in the beginning.

2)i tried doing it at my friends house yesterday and i had some problems but now when i start up my xbox, it starts up fine with the little animation but than cuts to a screen saying that i need to call in my xbox for service. im not even sure what i did or what is wrong. i relocked my hd and i dont think i touched anything on the hd so i dont see why its not working.

3) if i bring the xbox to a store that will swap the hd for me, does it matter if i totally fucked up my orignal xbox hd? shouldnt they have the cds already made, put all the files on the new hd and than just pop it into my xbox?

ecd, you need to put files in those folders, did you use your eeprom to lock the hdd? Did you get an error code? I don't know of any store that'll switch hdd for you that you can just pop in your xbox.

where do i get these files? in the c: i have the slayer program but i dont have anything in the e: part of the cd.

What are you doing? Building new hdd, restoring hdd?

im trying to replace my hd with a bigger one by following the steps at the beginning of the thread.

You only need C and eeprom(in its folder) on the ISO, then it'll be retail. You can put your gamesave in and install softmod. If you didn't do it with AR and gamesave, copy your E and put in its folder. Hope I didn't confuse you.

hahaha, yeah, im still a bit confused. i softmodded the xbox with ar before i started this mess and i got the eeprom off my ftp and put it where it was supposed to go. than i downloaded slayers and i installed all the files straight into c:/linux folder but what the error that im getting through the whole hdmaker program is saying that the correct files i need arent in my c: and e: on the iso cd.

so are you saying i can just get my friend to put everything from his e: (because i cant even connect mine), put it on a cd, put it on my comp, make another iso and it should be fine? what files exactly do i need?

You could do it that way. You just need YOUR eeprom. You'll also, need the exploit game. I don't know why it said the files weren't right but I haven't done it that way. What files did you put in C from Slayers? I'll send you a PM in a minute.

I have an error 6, and have tried everything to unlock it, and relock it, but to no sucsess, i have locked it with both configmagic and xbox hdm, luckily the hard drive i am using in my pc right now is supported by the xbox, so if i formated it, and used that in my xbox, what files would i need to put on all the folders?

I have a question right off the bat, it says to....

Copy the files off of your C:\ Drive into the C folder in XBOXHDM, Mine is modded with UnleashX, will that cause any problems or should I use my XBOX backup?
Also what about the E folder? should I place that in there also? in the E folder that is?
I would like to keep my mod as I have or if not no biggie, Just a functioning HDD so I can remod it.
I was just wondering should I use the backup of what is currently on my C folder?

Ok i'm having problems.

Setting up new 80 Gig hd.
Have all needed files on cd exactly how it said to. eeprom and all of c drive.

When I try to use command 1.) Rebuild Xbox Hard drive from scratch. everything seems to work fine upuntill it scans and says its over 8 gigs blah blah. I type yes to create F: then when it is loading up my partition info it says [error]. I have tried wiping current fatx partition table , command 5, and that works fine. but it still seems to get hung up at that point when building the hd from scratch.

oh and the hard drive IS unlocked double and triple checked that.

Ok I broke out my laptop so I may type exactly what is on the screen instead of paraphrasing.

ok start up prog on main page of XboxHDM.
enter 1) Build a new Xbox HD from scratch
No xbox-partition is found on hda. Continue Writing partition table? Yes

Try to reboot abd reenter this tool.

Besides the blah blah blah part that is exactly what is happening. and when i use command 4 at main window it looks exactly like what it looks like in the quide except for when the system reboots to activate the partition tables and says go back to 4 again to finish it acts like I never did it in the first place.

I have tried it using the xbox's power supply and my pc's ps

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mongoloidman, it is not activating F partition for some reason.. you can just lock the drive and install on xbox and then format F drive using unleashx or evox..

@PLowran, you can use C drive backup . If backup was done before modding then using the backup in C folder, xboxhdm will create a new unmodded hd. if you want to keep your mod then you probably need to disable shadowc with PBL and copy actual C drive contents and also take E:\ dashboard or E:\dash folder and your E folder of xboxhdm. That will create a modded hd with softmod installed.

Ok I did what you said. Locked hdd and put in xbox. the problem is I'm softmodded and it never even put the c: drive on the hard drive. So that doesn't work.

Now my hd is locked and I cant seem to unlock it. I can see it in my bios at startup but when linux is loaded it cant find /dev/hda ? I've tried unlocking in linux and dos. Niether with any luck. when I try to load up xboxhd it says there is no device connected and to power down, reconnect and reboot. So why is my system bios can see it why cant linux at least see that something is there.

you can unlock it with option "3" by typing unlockhd -a.. if that doesnt do it then you need to unlock with master password.. go to dos option and type "atapwd". There.. master password is "XBOXSCENE"

ok i have an arror16 on my xbox and i was told this can fix it but i have no backups and dontknow who to hook my xbox up to my computer i need the eeprom.bin and every thing i would need to fix my box thanks.

I'm having a problem with xboxhdm. Option 4, booting to dos, works fine from the initial menu. The first three options, however, start to load and then my computer reboots. In the dos prompt, I checked atapwd and it recognizes the hd. Is there a way to do the function that repairs just drive c on the hd in dos mode(option 4)? If not, what could be causing the other modes (VGA, text, Lynux) not to work? Thanks.

It turns out that the problem I was having to begin with was with my motherboard / primary controller. Not sure which, but from what i gather its something like that. bc when i put my hd in my friend comp and booted up I was able to unlock the drive and it didn't hang up like it was doing before.

Finally Im up and running with 80 gigs w00t.

Hey I did a HDD backup to a cd and ran xboxhdm. it seemed to work perfectly, I was surprised. the HDD I have is a 120 Maxtor that I checked before I tried this and someone else had luck with this drive. so when I went to put it in my xbox, the light blinks and I get an error 06 - Which is CANNOT UNLOCK HARD DRIVE.
Any Idea how to fix this? I locked the drive after the xboxhdm. I followed 2 manuals word by word and they were the same.
So y do I get this error code?

Yes and no,
I used the eeprom to lock the drive, It said it worked fine, gave me my serial number password and all that Jazz when it finished locking the drive.
the only thing i can think of that might have screwed it up is, the backup of my eeprom I made, It was named "SID" I hade to rename it to eeprom.bin when I placed it in the eeprom folder for the xboxhdm ISO.
any ideas?

Plowran, unlock the hdd. Get another backup of eeprom.bin. Don't know where you got it but you shouldn't have to rename it. Burn iso with eeprom in folder and try it again.

also make sure you disable nkpatcher using any PBL bios.. some softmods patches the eeprom after installing sp you might be using wrong eeprom.. also use configmagic to backup the eeprom.
