if you use evox to backup eeprom then it will be in evox\backup folder and its called eeprom.bin.

xboxhdm will not boot from my cd , i created multiple cd's, and dvd iso but none will boot could you put up a list of files that should be on the cd/dvd xboxhdm.....thx....c partition is on cd and eeprom is in eeprom folder but the only file in the root folder is a file called check and 2 txt files and the six folders, I would think that there should be more for the cd to boot checked your pic of what's on the cd and it is what is on my cd, any ideas why it would not boot. would usind cd-r and dvd-r affect this, gonna try dvd+r today.

The media shouldn't affect it, but did you burn the ISO to the disc as an image or did you burn the contents of the xboxhdm directory? Because you are supposed to burn the ISO.
Also, did you set your PC BIOS to boot off the CD/DVD drive before the HDD?

Does anyone know if this program can or can be aultered to reformat a harddrive through a USB adapter? I dont have a tower.
Corvillus
Aug 6 2007, 08:27 AM
You could in theory, but you'd have to edit all of the scripts that come with XboxHDM, and of course you'd be on your own as far as support goes if you do that, so I would strongly recommend against it unless you really know what you're doing. The best thing to do would be to actually borrow a tower from someone and just use it to get the job done.

Sorry for the probably easy question but I don't have the time to sift through the 124 pages to see if someone else has had this problem.
I softmodded my xbox some time ago and then cloned the HDD from the stock to a 40GB. I purchased a 160GB drive and tried to clone the 40 to it but all my files did not xfer and it says I only have 6GB free (which would be true had the 40 been what was put back in the xbox. Any ideas why cloning is not working? Is there a way to easily copy files from one xbox HDD to another other than FTP? Thanks in advance for the tips, you guys are all the best!

It clones your index, partition table, sizes and all.........I suggest reformating with unleash X your partitions that don't show the correct size, or just copy all to your pc and ftp to new hdd once it's done.
hmmmmmmmmmm...........also just remembered that there is an app out there that allows you to manage sizes in partitions of an xbox hdd.
an app called XBpartitioner1.0......sorry can't link you.
krayzie
Aug 17 2007, 05:53 PM
xbpartitioner only allows you to format in a different cluster size. the partition sizes stay the same. this is usefull if you want a partition that is larger then 254 GB and don't want to suffer from data corruption.

Never used XBpartitioner, but reading the .nfo, says something about resizing partitions and that is why I mentioned it.

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade my hard drive on a softmod box.
I ran ATAPWD in DOS and I get a "+" under "S" and "-" under the other letters except "V" which has nothing underneath.
I can't seem to lock the drive using xboxhdm. I select option 3, hdlock - a, then y and it runs something and returns:
HDD Serial : [serial number]
HDD Firmware : [FW number]
HDD Model : [model number]
Security Supported : yes
Security enabled : no
Security locked : no
Security frozen : no
Security count expired : no
The drive is not locked. hdunlock (from option 3) and ATAPWD in DOS confirm this.
I tried running HDlock from DOS and manually entering the password, and I get a positive response to the tune of "This drive has been locked using password ....." but the drive is not locked.
The drive is on the list of lockable drives.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.

How can i repair this i tried to go thru the installing ndure again but says i already backed up C:\ and when I try to install ndure again it asks me if I want to remove a file doesnt matter if i pick y or n same result. Can anyone please help I have looked around for a while and the only thing from what I read is to get slayers C:\ and reinstall MS dash but not sure on details of this. Any help would be much appreiciated. The tut for ndure softmod is great though i have no problems with my xbox.

I wanted to know if anyone can help me I am new to modding and would much appreciate any help. I have a xbox with softmod ndure 3.0. I have just come across some xbox hd cables and would like to use force 480p option. I now have a 300gb maxtor hdd and want to use it in the xbox. I got my EEPROM.bin file with configmagic (do I have to rename it with lower case as i have seen it other places?) and I also used e:\ndts (I think it was something like that) to copy my real c:\ and e:\. I know I will have to use xboxhdm. I would like to know if I can turn on force 480p on xbox before I upgrade hdd? I would also like to know if I need g:\ partition because of the size of the new hdd? I was thinking since I want to use force 480p and will have large hdd would I use slayers c:\ for clean MS dash then build hdd from scratch and before locking hdd install ndure 3.0 (with force 480p and 200gb in nkpatcher options selected) then lock hdd with EEPROM.bin? Also I am not sure I have read a lot and was curious do I need e:\ as well from slayers (I read only c:\ is needed) or do I just make 3 new folders TDATA,UDATA,CACHE in xboxhdm e:\ before I make iso?

Thanks for the follow up. I have tried that. I entered the HDD Key (not the HDD Locking Password). I forget exactly what the response was, but essentially the machine told me that the Drive was successfully locked. However, it is not. I do remember that it the response came almost immediately, I don't know if it should take a few seconds or more to lock the drive, so I don't know if that's relevant.
I've tried this on a few different Dell - Intel setups, all with the same result.

i'm hoping someone can help me with a weird problem. i'm attempting to replace the stock x-box hd with a 120gb one in a softmodded system. i've created the xboxhdm boot disc and i've hooked up my new hard drive to the primary master, put the boot disc in my cd-rom drive and booted my computer. after initializing, it takes me to the initial xboxhdm linux installer menu (with the 4 boot options). when i select option 1 it starts to initialize, then after a few seconds my computer reboots, eventually taking me right back to the xboxhdm boot disc options menu. i cannot get it to proceed beyond that point.
i first encountered this problem when i was originally attempting to soft-mod my x-box, as i was attempting to do it via the hotswap method but could never get the boot disc to proceed on the stock X-box harddrive. eventually i just assumed i was doing something wrong and ended up soft-modding via gamesave exploit.
so could there just be something about my computer that prevents it from running the linux installer? i've followed the tutorial i'm using to the letter and i'm fairly positive i've done everything right up to this point.

Please excuse my ignorance but I have a question, I have read through this entire thread and I am still confused. I have my eeprom.bin on my PC. I have a 120 GB drive that I want to install in my XBOX. Right now I have the stock drive with the softmod on it. I have no interest in cloning this drive. I am going to put it up as a back up when I get this drive ready to go in. I assume that this 120 GB drive I pulled out of an old PC should not be locked, so If I am building a drive from scratch using this approach I won't need to unlock the drive as it should not be locked. I am also assuming that when this drive is built I will need to lock it using the password from the eeprom.bin on my XBOX? I put the files off of slayers disk and my eeprom to the eeprom linux folder and made an image. Now, when I boot from this disk and follow the steps to build from scratch at what point do I "lock" this new drive using the eeprom.bin info, or is this done for me. This drive knows nothing of this eeprom.bin or password. So It shouldn't have to be unlocked rather at the end of all this is will have to be locked with the calcuated password from the eeprom.bin????

The softmod hotswap with XBOXHDM and Ndure Installer For PC3.1 went fine. Everything works. Because I played a lot with apps and settings on the XBOX now, I wonder: Is there a way to rebuild the entire HD again?
I don't care If I loose savegames or settings. All partitions should be rebuild, no old data should be left, clean. After that I would like to make a clean clone of the HD to upgrade the HD size. That's why I'm asking. Btw: Is there an application for XBOX which can generate something like an image of all partitions, so you can go back to this state later?
Thanks for you help in advance; (and could someone delete my stupid posts in the "Ndure Installer For Pc 3.1" thread? I didn't read the FAQ...)

if you want to create a new clean hard drive , get C drive files from slayers disk and patch them Ndure installer ( look at the included pdf for more about patching C drive files).. Copy the C and E folder contents to xboxhdm C and E folders. Get the eeprom from the xbox and put that in eeprom folder. In case of current harddrive, boot xboxhdm , go to option "3" and unlcok the harddrive. reboot in xboxhdm , after booting with option '1" type xboxhdm and select "Build xbox hard drive from scratch" and after that lock the hard drive. In case of new hard drive.. just build the harddrive from scratch and lock it.

Thanks for your fast reply. Hope you can still make some more things clear for me (and others?):
These are the right files to get?
- SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6_FINAL.exe (torrent)
- Ndure Installer For PC3.1.exe (xbins)
- Original XBOXHDM 1.9 (without the "Ndure Installer For PC3.1 script" included?) (xbins)
(1.)
With "Ndure Installer For PC3.1" I have to patch the C:\ files of "SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6_FINAL" .
(2.)
After that I copy the files in the C:\ and E:\ folders to the C:\ and E:\ folders of "XBOXHDM 1.9".
(3.)
I get the "EEPROM" out of my XBox from my softmoded HD. (Where to find?)
(4.)
I put this "EEPROM" to the EEPROM folder of the "XBOXHDM 1.9".
(5.)
I have to make an "ISO" now and burn it?
(6a.) - (Case - Softmoded HD)
Unlock, Rebuild, Lock (with new CD from ISO)
(6b.) - (Case - New HD)
Rebuild, Lock (with new CD from ISO)
So no need to have the XBox powered up for this two precedures or to hotswap (except to get the "EEPROM"). I'm not sure about the lock/unlock code. Is it generated out of the "EEPROM" in step 3 and I have to write it down? Read it somewhere.

you can install configmagic to backup the eeprom, also in the ndure toolset ( E:\ndts\default.xbe), there is a option to backup eeprom. If you ued the ndure toolset, the eeprom will be in E:|NKP11\ folder.

Thank you very much. Everything works fine. For a beginner all the tutorials are still a little bit confusing because there is a lot old text. Maybe I post here what I have done so far, from a new unmoded XBox to a softmoded XBox with a larger hd.
Another question:
When I backup all folders via ftp, kann I use this as a backup? So I access the XBox later via ftp, delete all files and transfer my backup, reboot and done. I guess it can't work because the XBox access' some files during powered up, so no chance to replace them?
kingroach
Sep 24 2007, 03:17 AM
you can do it.. as long as you dont turn off your xbox during the transfer..
snakesnoke
Sep 24 2007, 08:46 AM
Ok, then I will transfer all files now via ftp to my PC and save them as a backup. Later when I want to restore my XBox, I delete all files on the XBox via ftp and send back my backup files.
I somehow wonder that the XBox doesn't need those files while powered up. How come? Thank you, it's a very convenient way.

I successfully have "Build xbox hard drive from scratch". My XBOX boots the ms dash with the tray open button. Any way to change this afterwards? Because sometimes when the xbox crashs (because of an emu for example) you can reboot the xbox with the tray open button, and when the ms dash loads, you have to power the xbox off in order to get the real dash started. :/

I'm having some issues with putting a larger HD into a softmodded xbox. I did the ndure hotswap softmod on a retail drive, then got the eeprom and backed up the entire drive. I then made a new xboxhdm disc wtih the C and E directories, and the eeprom.
Should I format the new drive with this disc, or clone the drive through xboxhdm? Or another method? The new drive is 80gb.
Another thing that is confusing me is locking a non-retail drive. Do all hard drives in general have an eeprom, or do I need to spoof it somehow?

its easier to build the harddrive from scratch.. cloning takes a lot of times. Hardrives doesnt have eeprom.. xbox looks for lock code in the hard drive and you will the drive using xbox's eeprom. So when xbox looks for lock code in harddrive, it will match with xbox's lcok code. you dont need to spoof anything.. just lock the harddrive using xboxhdm option "3".
