Ok I've tried this now when I reboot my xbox I get error 13. I can't remember what that is but think it has something to do with the dashboard. Any suggestions. And thanks for everything else I know I"m now making some progress.

Error 13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

ok im having the same problem as spency234, the disc wont boot my machine. ive tried remaking the iso several times now. tried my liteon dvd burner, a liteon cd burner, and an old gerneric cd drive. all of which would boot other bootable cds just fine.
the root of my cd is the same as his, also inside the isolinux folder i have boot.cat, fatximage, freeboot.img, initrd.gz, isolinux.bin, isolinux.boot, lockimage, memdisk, message.txt
isobuster shows the disc as bootable.

Everything once again is working perfectly. Thanks for all your help. Figures I had to install UDE from a cd with only that on it. For some reason it wouldn't install from the same image as my hd backup. I find that strange but oh well it works.

u can manually hotswap if u can boot original games.. that unlocks the hd.
Bocaj22
Oct 17 2004, 03:37 AM
so if i can get something like mechassault to run, it unlocks the hardrive, even if it wont work without a game and gets error 6.
Bocaj22
Oct 17 2004, 09:55 PM
wait, but how would it unlock the hardrive if it wont do so normally on boot.
also, when unlockx has problems, does it lock with a password you didnt type in, or does it just like screw up your hardrive

Oct 18 2004, 12:38 AM
thats why everyone should use xboxhdm's lock/unlock tool. cz even if u dont remember the password it sets a master password "XBOXSCENE". if u still have the password u can try a unlock attept with unlockhd.exe( thats in the xboxhdm menu "4".

ok guys, i have the xboxhdm file unpackaged. i also just ran "make.iso.win"
which created a linux.iso file that opens in winrar. What files do i need to burn to a cd from the linux.iso file. do i need to burn the entire linux.iso form in .rar format like it looks on my pc, or do i unzip linux.iso and burn the cd from one of those files
PLEAASEEEEE help! : )

Oct 22 2004, 11:53 AM
Don't open it in WinRar. You don't just burn it leaving an iso file on the CD. The ISO file is a compressed CD image basically and you have to use a program like Nero to burn it.
In Nero go to open and in the filetype dragdown box select "Image Files *.iso"

After trying to use xboxhdm, I get an error 6. I'll admit that I screwed up somehow. I do have my eeprom, and the passwords that it gave me. It also should have the master password XBOXSCENE, it said that it would. I then ran the xboxhdm disc again and while booting it said that I should run e2fsck and gave a bunch of errors. I did and it just said that it couldn't read anything. And now no unlocking tools work. I've tried all the unlocking tools on the disk and none of them have worked. Is there any way I can get this hard drive working again? It's a version 1.0 Xbox and an 8 gig hard drive. There is no possibility of ftp access to the xbox. Thanks for the help.

I just was wondering, to ensure i don't make a mistake and waste alot of money :-p, can i use a 200 gig hard drive? I was looking at that site newegg.com and they have a Western Digital 200GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive for 110 would this still work?
also there is the Western Digital Special Edition 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive for 83, i'm assuming this would definantly work cause i've seen others modding larger drives, but i haven't really read anything on the 200gig one.
BTW i don't even own an Xbox yet, I have about 200 saved up so far, and i'm just waiting till i get the money for everything at once before i actually go out and purchase it :-\, but i'm close so in a week or two i will have it, but i now just have to watch to ensure i get everything and it works.

ok, i'm lost
I successfully used the ltools ude2 exploit,
Then got xboxhdm 1.9, extracted, ftp the ude2 C and E drives over to pc, then put them in the correct places in xboxhdm folder, then put the eeprom.bin in the right place. Burned the iso, set a new 80gig wd lockable hd in, ran hdm, used build new xbox drive, it found c and e, and formatted F. Then locked the drive, pull it out and put in the box. and all it will do is go to the service screen with no error number. I'm lost and confused.....anybody got any ideas?

what option did you choose to lock the drive? the built in locking/unlocking tool with xboxhdm? probably your xbox is ver 1 so no error number. try unlocking and then locking the drive again and see what happens.

I have a quick question : i tried upgrading my box hd to a 80 gig yesterday using xboxhdm. I put eeprom + c and e files and burnt it to cd-rw. I then proceeded to install this + ude package on my newly acquired hd.
But in the process i forgot to lock the hd and when i put it back in the xbox i got error 5.
Do i just have to plug the hd back on my pc and lock using hdlock and problem solved? Or is my hd toast?

i have a version 1 xbox, softmodded with the UDE for mechassault, got evox running on it. i got a 200GB hard drive yesterday and spent some hours going over the guide and then attempting it. i dont know if its how i made the cd but firstly i went to unlockhd(i know this was pointless now) and tried typing unlockhd -a , but it couldnt find eeprom.bin, and it was in the eeprom folder. after some various attempts i found out it was frozen. to bypass this i disconnect the ide cable until xboxhdm loaded, the connected the hd before selectign an option, by this time i had made a second cd and put an eeprom.bin in nearly every directory, it still couldnd find it so i decided to enter it manually, found out it was already unlocked (point of this being the HD has ATA security). then i went to build hd from scratch, it formated it and all that and then asked if i wanted an F drive, formatted that. then it asked me if i wanted it to copy files to these 2 drives, after selecting yes tho it couldnt find the "C" and "E" folder on the cd, then after tring repeatedly, and trying version 1.7 (was using 1.9) it still didnt work. then i somehow got into "midnight commander" and copied the files from "C" and "E" folders to the C and E drives, and thought finally, i then locked the HD, entering the code manually (hope i did it right) and it said locked and all that. tried it in the xbox and was greeted by error 6 "unable to unlock drive" i think. the xbox was powering the harddrive all the time. i am going to try again in a couple of hours,
so far the only problems i can think of is a dodgey eeprom.bin from evox, i will use config magic later.
i think i read somewhere that i shouldnt use the same C as my softmodded box, use the original C and then softmod the new hd.
and also im using a compaq
i read the entire topic before posting and no encountered errors like this so its not like most noob questions. i think its kernal 4034 maybe, im not beside my box now but ill edit it later and say, any help would, well, probably help

@guidoisgek
yes, just lock the drive and try again.
@Dizturbed
try with teh configmagic eeprom.bin. you can first try making the drive without any exploit. use C:\ drive file from slayers disk. then if this works then exploit the hard drive.
before burning a new cd, you can also include UDE2 package for xboxhdm so if you succes booting retail dash then you can just use xbxohdm to install exploit.

right, im after spending another 5 hours at it and its still not working, when building the hd from scratch it recognised the "C" folder on the cd because its the original files from my xbox in there, backed up when i used the UDE.
when i go to locking/unlocking it still can find the eeprom on the cd, so i have to enter it manually. i tried getting it from configmagic and its still the same (i took the eeprom from \data in program folder after i selected backup files. hope thats it)
i cant change the bios setting not to autodetect so what i do is wait til the bios is done and just before xboxhdm loads put the ide cable into the new hdd. not the safest way but it works.
1.00.4981.67 Kernel
1.00.4920.01 Dash
am i meant to get other files out of slayers installer or should the ones that is in the backup ok? im on a 56k modem so please dont say i have to download slayers.
im running out of options and i dont want to have wasted 165 and the fucking harddrive not work.
2 hours later:
ok, i got the eeprom configmagic dumps but xboxhdm still doesnt find it, its ment to be in a folder called eeprom in the same place the "C" and "E" folder go isnt it? just to get the little problems in my mind out of the way could someone clarify these questions:
1. when locking/unlocking manually(typing in) is it the "HDD Key" or "HDD Password", ive been using password but its not working so im questioning everything.
2. Would the xbox somehow know that the new harddrive isnt actually screwed in or anything and for that reason cant unlock it.
3. when using config magic it shows the hdd model and serial number, if i changed these to the new hd's model and serial number would it help?
4. who wants to come to my house and do this.
you really know youve hit a new low when the "for dummies" guide is too complicated.

by the way my new hd is western digital WD2000BB - 22GUA0

ouch..well if u have read many ppl have succeed with it. personally I think there is no need for any guide as the readme that comes out with xboxhdm is enough.
A lot of people had/having problem with western digital hard drive and all related to this locking/unlocking thing. I have always used seagate hard drive so I have little experience on western digital hard drives. My best advice will be try a older xbox hdm like ver 1.5 or 1.6. or just tsop flash ur xbox so it wont bother about locking/unlocking.

I got it last night, i followed leahcim711's link to his prob, seemed similiar to mine so i used the solution he got, well kinda, i put the eeprom.bin on a floppy instead of the cd, i dont know if its a big in xboxhdm or just my cd but it could find it, but it found it on the cd and the password it generated was completely different so tried that and it worked. So all is good now, I want to celebrate but ive no skins

.
even the password at the bottom of configmagic wasnt right but the eeprom it backed up was.
only problem now is the 70GB that went missing, in evox i selected use g drive but it comes up no space on it, how would one go about formatting the g drive?

Hello,
After a problem with a hotswap (hddriver) I'im trying to fix my problem.
I've done carefully this tutorial except one thing: I took the "config magic" eeprom and put it in the linux>eeprom folder. My xbox version is 1.1.
There is something that I don't understand:
When I can choose between the 8 options:
1) build a new Xbox HD from scratch (what i want to do
2) rebuild C-partition
...
8) Quit
I see:
[disabled]
1) build...
...
5)
[/disabled]
6) generate..
7)make dos...
8)quit
I wrote down my HD password but maybe I didn't understand how to unlock my hdd because I never used my hd password.
I don't know where I have to look for. Help is welcoming
Laurent.

But still I can't unlock my hdd.

my HDD is a seagate 10 Go, if anybody have an advice...

im no expert(see previous posts

)
when xboxhdm boots up first, selct option 3, thats where you unlock/lock the drive unless its frozen. take the eeprom from the configmagic backup, put it on a floppy and use that. type lock -a , if it doesnt find it on a cd it gives you a few options, specify a path to the eeprom, look on floppy disk and exit. select floppy. thats what worked for me.

Just a quick question on clone times:
How long should I expect it to take to clone my existing 120GB HD (about 115GB of data on it

)
Not sure if it makes any difference but I have a fairly high-end PC (P4 3.4, 1GB of RAM). Old and new drives are also on the same IDE channel - new one on slave, source drive on primary...

configure the pbl-m8 bios with evtool to use G:\ drive for larger than 127gb hd. then use dashboard like evox, or mxm to format the G:\ drive.
@MinimumEfrt
just put the original files from ur c:\ drive ( not the files from failed softmod ones), if u cannt differentiate the original files then I recommend you to get the fresh files from slayers disk or x-disk.

I followed the instructions fully, except, I softmodded the xbox first, then took the -c files, and -e files from my xbox drive, and tansfered them to the xboxhdm/linux/c and e, i made the ISO and everything worked perfectly. The bootable CD I created locks the HD fine with the eeprom.bin file that I included on the disk, but when it comes to loading the xbox I get error 6, so I think I may have put a currupt eeprom.bin on the cd (or maybe a copy of my housemate's eeprom.bin

).
I'm just wondering if there are any command line parameters that I can use to call lockhd to manually specify a path to a eeprom.bin file that I will put on a floppy, as I have about 3 backups and don't know which one will work??

I burned the iso to a cd and set my computer to boot from a cd, but when i boot up it says something like "not bootable" or "boot failed" and then "reboot and select the right device to boot from". help please.
If I haven't done anything wrong with the cd do you have to boot with the cd when the xbox's hard drive is in the computer?
