question, i burned an img of xboxhdm onto a cd-r and booted it up. It booted fine...however, i would type in xbrowser, all of a sudden it would say "searching hda/??? searching hdb/???" until the end and then it says it cant load linux cd. Now i looked at the faq for xboxhdm, and i then proceeded to change linux.boot (or on my computer, isolinux.boot) to boot.cat. After doing this, the disc wont even boot up to the option menu.....any suggestions on how to get this to work? am i missing any files?

I'm running into a problem. I was softmodding my friend's xbox and got to the cloning part of the new hd fine. It cloned and everything and I went ahead and locked it with the password it generated. I tried sticking that in the xbox but was getting error code 06. I think I may have used the wrong eeprom, no biggy, I wrote down the code I used to lock it I can just unlock it and get the correct lock code. Right?
Well now hdunlock.exe is not recognizing the harddrive. It keep saying there is not HD on the primary master when there is?! It's being recognized in my bios but none of hdtools say its connected?
Whats wrong? Help!?!

yap.. your hard drive is locked.. you can check "the art of hotswapping" thread. but a quick way to unlock hard drive is, copy a track in you xbox, play teh track for a few secs and then do teh hotswap.
@neomits
unlock teh drive with same xboxhdm cd. go to option "3" and type "unlockhd -a".

how exactly do i copy a track on my xbox? do i need a special program or is it as easy as putting an audio cd in my xbox and push a button?
would my hard drive being locked also cause this problem?
the live cd linux distro will load from the cdrom to the boot screen, then i can get into option 1 or 2 (vga/text) Then i proceed to type in "xbrowser". and then it proceeds:
Looking for CD-ROM in /dev/hda
Looking for CD-ROM in /dev/hdb
Looking for CD-ROM in /dev/hdc
((all the way down to /dev/hdt))
Linux CD not found! Insert it and try again.....
Thats the error every time. My Xbox hdd js connected to my primary master, jumper set to cable select, my cdrom is connected to secondary master, jumper set to cable select, the cdrom is in /dev/hdc but it wont get recognized
i know thats a lot to put on you but i appreciate your help immensely

there is actually too much info on modding that it is confusing. I have read that you need to set both your cdrom and hdd as masters via jumper cable meanwhile 5 minutes later you hear that they have to both be set on cable select. I dont know which way is up, just got to do trial and error,
but this problem me and you share is a pain

Feb 2 2005, 03:16 PM
hmm.. yes there is too much info out there.. so try this:
put teh cd-rom/dvd-rom in primary slave. when you put the cd-rom in primary slave, make sure the cd-rom jumper is set to cable select or slave. Use the exactlt same power cable thats normally used to power the cd/dvd-rom.
Put xbox-hd in primary master.
you can copy a track by just putting a audio cd and use xboxdash.
Once I had this problem ( linux cd not found), and the computer I used was a HP-Pavillon computer so i ont know if thats the same as to you. But, I used teh above procedure and it was O.K.

quick question.
What is the master password to unlock a hd locked by xboxhdm.
I thought it was XBOXSCENE , but that gives me an error saying that the password should be less than 64 charachters and also be an even number of characters. Any help would be great. I have a pile of eeproms and hate to go through them to see which one I used to lock my hdd.

yeah that is what I thought. I typed this line in
unlockhd -p 'XBOXSCENE' - this just gave me errors. I used option 3, not sure if I need to use option 4 with dos prompt to used the password.
I also tried 'Xboxscene'
niether worked, not sure what the issue was, I am just going to keep all my drives unlocked where I can.
but I just burnt a few discs with the eeproms I had around. Luckily I found it after try #2.
by the way CMIZ. Loving that signature of yours

it's not your password....it's your master password....they're different.
use atapwd.exe, supposedly that is what you're supposed to use with the master password in order to unlock the drive. (i've never actually needed to do it before so i don't really have more info). you got it open though? good.

Okay, I've got a new problem--I'm trying to put in 160GB hard drive, like I did with my 20. So I ran XBOXHDM and built the HD no problem, and then locked it. When I put it in the xbox I get the 12 error screen(no dash right?). I've now realized that I accidently forgot to add the contents of E: to my disc. SO I reconnect my HDD to the primary master as before and boot up the computer and...well, it sees the HDD when looking for primary master/slave, but when it's supposed to boot from CD it goes black with a cursor at the top left--I can't type or anything. Just to trouble shoot I removed the HD and it boots off the cd just fine, I tried swapping in the HDD after linux boots off the XBOXHDM cd but it won't recognize the drive--am I stuck with a paperweight?

Okay guys, with much help from these forums I know have a freshly installed 160GB seagate HD and I'm in the process of loading all of my games on to the f:\ drive. BUT, as everybody knows there's a 137GB cap on HDD's.
I did a bunch of reading on the forums about how to add a g:\ partition but most of it was from 2003 and most involved mod-chips that could be flashed and hex editing. I'm assuming advances have been made but with much searching I couldn't find soft-mod oriented posts that were more up to date.
I have my xbox softmodded with the UDE(2) splinter cell save exploit with evox and pblmetoo. What I want to know is with the above loaded do I only have to change the evox config. file to allow g:\ partition or do I still have to change my bios. Also, is there an easier way? Such as expanding the f: drive--I'm not too picky where the extra 23 GB end up.
Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW I know this only loosely fits in this thread, but I believe that an update to the original tut including info on bigger drives would be a great addition--it was basically a one stop shop for me except this last step. Either way, a wonderful tut/thread that has made my life easier.

Hey, does anyone know if there's a way to use Midnight Commander to transfer files OFF of an X-Box HDD onto say a floppy disc? I know some people have talked about that, and it appears to put the file on there, but it's unseen once back in Windows.

It is all in how the floppy is mounted. If the floppy is formatted in windows, then it needs to be properly mounted in MC to work properly.

try looking for some more on this by searching 'linux floppy mounting' in google.
But try this
mkdir /mnt/fd
mount -t FAT /dev/fd0 /mnt/fd
Then starting xbrowser to copy the file.

hmm.. not a bad idea. but enabling G:\ is and F:\ drive mostly depends on you dashboard and Bios.. but I will add if I get time.. ( came from Uni. at 10:30 at night..lol)
however you need to edit the bios to use either F+G or F drive.. If its configured to use F: drive only then it will take all teh 160gb and if you configure the bios to use F+G then F drive will be 127 gb and G: drive will be the rest. After you setup teh bios.. use Unleashx or evox to format teh drive.

I had my XBOX softmodded by someone else and it has a shadow C on the G:\drive. I want to upgrade this harddrive, but I don't know how to setup the C:\ & E:\ on the ISO for xboxhdm.
I am afraid if I simply copy over the C: and E: from my XBox using Ftp, place it in the linux\c and linux\e folder it won't run because it will be looking for G:\. Any ideas?
Edit:
King Roach Suggested when I posted this before
QUOTE
you have to format teh G:\ drive unleashx or other software. what u can do is first create the hd, then just format the G:\ drive and put the shadow c image there..
My question with this is can I do this on my computer, because I am not sure the XBOX will boot without the shadowC

How are screenshots done for xboxhdm? I've tried the VMWare way of getting "some" screenshots but due to the virtual disk it won't allow for formatting/locking emulation in it, so I'm unable to get an accurate screenshot of what's going on. Is there some way to dump the different screens to the hard drive when actually booting too xboxhdm? I know this is possible in someway as it appears that xboxhdm is using a framebuffer. I'm trying to build a STOCK HD, for live purposes.
Where are the stock files in Slayers 2.5?
Is there another FOOLPROOF way to make a stock hd easy? I have another box, but I am afraid to mod that.... what if I lose my live?? eh....
I WAS thinking about using ltools 1.7 007 to get in there, make a backup of it... then using those files to build another drive with a different EEPROM.
The reason I post this is because I just built a drive with the system/c folder in slayers and got an error 6 when I locked it back up.

ERROR #9
Def: HDD parameters (PIO/DMA/or size {debug}, certain size minimum is required for debug)
Reason: All I could gather on this, was either the Jumper is in the wrong position, make sure its in CS (Cable Select). Or the Drive Has Phyisically Failed, or the drive has not been partitioned correctly.
Solution: Make sure you have correctly partitioned your hard drive, and that the cable is tightly connected, trying a new IDE ribbon has also helped.
