and i know the answers to my questions

I used the xboxhd script to make a DOS boot disk, but I don't have the EEPROM on the CD because I made it at a friends house. What is the format of input/hdpass.txt? I used EvoX to make a backup so I do have the key. (I think)
Here is what EvoX made:
QUOTE(EvoX)
Disk Serial Number : "5JRD6QYP            "
Disk Model Number  : "ST310014A                              ****PARTINFO****                                XBOX MUSIC      "

What would I put into hdpass.txt to lock a new hdd that I'm bout to make?

Well, over this, I'm trying to put a new HDD, 120GB, into xbox.
I dont want to fuck it up by locking it w/ an unknown key, so I need help fixing this DOS boot disk so I can lock it when I do use the tool to make it. Anyone can help me?
kingroach
you hd unlock password is :

QUOTE
ba d7 53 27 33 3c b4 f0 6e 7b 6a 85 44 c1 1a 17 ef 30 ca a6

without any space.. but you should always lock/unlock the hd with eeprom.. if you dont have the eeprom in your CD.. then just the eeprom in the root of your floppy.. then in xboxhdm type "hdlock -a".. when it wont find any eeprom in the cd.. it will look for cd in floppy drive..
davidcooper375
when i tried 2 rebuild the xbox hard drive after unlocking it, after unlocking it n disabling hard drive lock when i try to get past the screen where you answer yes/no i get access denide? why?
Soullar
Not sure where you get the yes/no screen but :

Follow the tutorial (xboxhdm for dummies, it's all there.)

Follow Kingroach's advice to use the eeprom.bin file (as you can use Evox to backup, you can backup the Eeprom. Find a way to transfer the file to PC (yes yes yes, use ftp, get a cable if needed)

If your only problem is locking the drive again and have trouble reading/understanding the FAQ (or just too lazy and in a hurry) I made a small summary on 'how to' here : http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...4&#entry2518034

The error was because xboxhdm cannt unlock the HD. you are probably using a wrong eeprom or password... check if that is the eeprom from your xbox..

Are you using linux?.. make sure that you have "root" access to hard drive nad you CHMOD the files right..
daviddu54
thanks for your answere kingroach

no i dont have linux on my computer, only windows xp home
if i good understand,i must install linux system on my computer and send initrd in root folder? right?
cant you give more details for proced?
Wingman21
I got a problem! xboxhdm sees my drive when I hotswap but cant find any xbox partitions when I type xbrowser !!! Is it because the drive is still locked, because I thought a locked drive wouldnt even be seen by xboxhdm uhh.gif !!??
kingroach
@daviddu54,

you dont necessarily need to install linux .. I do a lot of linux task and I am running linux in vmware.. but yah.. you need to have linux either way..

if you are new to linux then you need to learn about "initrd" images and how to make and modify them.. First, you need to mount the initrd file in linux.. after you mount that .. you will be able to see the contents inside and there will be teh scripts.. you need to open the scripts in text editor and translate them.. Theres a lots of processes so you need to research online a bit..

what I mean by root access is that "administartor" access.. in linux "root" means "admin" so you will have all the rights..

@Wingman21,

yes, xboxhdm can see the hd even if its locked.. but it wont be able to access it.. To unlock your hd easily.. copy a music track in you xbox.. in xbox dashboard, play it for 10-15 secs.. then "pause" the track and do hotswap.. always works for me..

Thanks bro... Ill try that out.
But now I got a new problem. I made myself a testing new HD with xboxhdm, and Im trying to attach it just like when hotswapping, (at the first xboxhdm menu), but linux doesnt detect it. In order for linux to detect it I must connect it before powering up my PC. So my question is: WHEN should I connect the hotswapped xbox hd during the booting process of my PC !? I start it and hit pause ?
kingroach
you start and hiy pause so it will hang in black boot screen.. then you attach teh hd and hit shif or enter ..or you can connect the hotswapped hd and start the computer.. one of them will work..
Wingman21

Are 100% sure you can start the PC after plugging the xbox HD !? Wouldnt that relock it or something !?
jfoster1234
i heard that using the backup feature in evo-x when you have pheonix bios loader on your xbox produces the wrong eeprom. is this also true for nkpatcher?
kingroach
not true.. recently I modde my friends 1.6 xbox.. backed up the eeprom with evox and it works.. however you will get wrong eeprom if in Nkpatcher .. there is virtual eeprom enabled.. you can get eeprom from both evox and unleasx and compare them..

Bump for my question... smile.gif
kingroach
why dont try and find out?.. answer is no.. it doesnt xbox-hd and pc is independent of each other..but it may also depend on your computers bios.. I have seen atleast two computers that doesnt work is your turn on pc after plugging in teh HD but works if you hit pause and plug teh Hd.. however in my PC both works..
jfoster1234
so should i just use config magic to get my eeprom?
kingroach
both will work.. if you use configmagic.. make sure you are using the latest build..
rc3105
linux doesn't use the bios to access the drive, so disabling the primary ide interface in the bios (instead of just turning off autodetect) allows some systems to boot without issuing the reset that triggers drive relock

some system bios options truly disable controllers such that linux can't even see 'em, ymmv
jfoster1234
how do i know if config magic got the right eeprom? i have a virtual c drive on my xbox.
kingroach
first delete/rename the virtual eeprom if you have one.. then get backup with evox and get backup with configmagic.. compare teh hdd_key's.. if they are both similar then both of them are correct.. In my experience both tool alaways get teh right eeprom.. I always use evox and that never gave me wrong eeprom..
jfoster1234
i din't mess with the virtual c. the two hd passwords are the same. does that mean they are both right?
kingroach
yah.. smile.gif
daviddu54
thx kingroach for your councils, i will seach how mount linux img !!

i have a new question

With what does correspond this option? "Wipe current fatx partition table"

i dont understand "wipe" google too, this is for rebuild another partition?
Wingman21
Finally did my softmod last night biggrin.gif !!!
I first had trouble with xboxhdm and hotswaping because my PC (Intel P4) wouldnt read the xbox HD at all, so I tried with my other PC (AMD Athlon) and it worked perfectly. I then transfered the gamesave exploit (Krayzie install) and went rented MechAssault. Rest was soooo easy !!! I know I could have just dropped the UXE package while I was hotswaping, but I felt more confortable with the Krayzie Installer: It backups the C: and eeprom and everything is automatically done cool.gif !!!
Now I can move on and read about other things than noob FAQ and DOC beerchug.gif !!!

By the way, thanx for the tip kingroach, your way of unlocking the HD with an audio song worked perfectly. So much easier than the method during booting process (M$ logo) explain in all the FAQ smile.gif !!!
kingroach
@daviddu54,

"wipe" means delete.. in that case that option will be:

"Delete all xbox partition".. this option will delete the C,E drives from hard drive..

@Wingman21,

beerchug.gif ... yah.. "track pause" method is easiest since there is enough time in your hand to do the hotswap unlike other method.. anyway.. yah if you can get exploitable game thne that the best way since if you flunk up anything .. you can just pop the game and reinstall the mod..
daviddu54
thank you very much my friend , see you later for a new question

For some reason, my desktop restarts itself after I hit the enter button (as instructed in the tutorial) at the XBOXHDM startup screen. It goes into loading iso/linux, get a bunch of periods....and then nothing. I I just let it go without keying anything, it'll get into this closed loop where it tries to load on its own and restarts. I've already burned the iso three times, with two different burning apps (NERO 6 and DVD Decrypter.) I'm trying to build a new HD from scratch with the FTP'd C and E folders of my softmodded stock hd. Has anyone ran into this problem before or come across something similiar? I don't believe it is pertinent since everything is done from the dos prompt, does the fact that I'm running W98 on the desktop have anything to do with it? Thanks in advance....
kingroach
There was a topic about xboxhdm failsafe method.. its actually caused by your bios.. here is th etopic:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...172&hl=failsafe

this should fix your problem..
moet_chandon
Thanks for the tip but I experienced the same problem after the patch. it does go alittle further into the uncompression, prompting linux is ready and intitializing, but the it restarts and I back to square 1 (or two if you include your tip.) I read some post in the same thread about bios settings possibly being my problem. I f10'd in it but none of the topics they listed (i.e. bios caching) Any ideas?
jfoster1234
when i try and boot from my iso, it says "disc boot error. insert system disc now". i have it set to boot from a cd, but i don't know why it's not working.

I already have a softmodded xbox but need to redo it (using the same drive). Would I use this guide step by step in the same way as if I just installed a new HDD? Like I said, my current xbox has already been softmodded and has a 160GB HDD w/ Avalaunch running on it.
kingroach
yes.. but you will loose you game-saves..
tbird2340
So I just need to ftp them off.. How about all the games I have copied over to the HDD... Will I lose those as well?

kingroach
yah.. those too.. so you need to ftp in all of them into your computer and then after you rebuild teh hd.. transfer them back..

what exactly are you trying to do with rebuilding.. dry.gif

Ok.. I got Dash2Gam_V3.0B and Patch_V3.1B. I also got 01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.audio.and.fonts.rar.

I couldn't find any "PBL" like you said at the "usual places". Is that what it's named?

Now that I've got these files what do I need to do?

Thanks for all the help.. If I can enable DTS/AC3 easily w/out redoing my xbox I will be a VERY happy man..

Just read the UIX readme.. So if I copy the files over to E:\Dashboards\UIX then go into XBMC, and use it's file manager, go to E:\Dashboards\UIX\uix.xbe this will launch the UIX dashboard?

Then I will be able to enable DTS there? It won't give me the same error about writing to the EEPROM??

Thanks
kingroach
its just another variant of msdash.. it doesnt write to eeprom.. which is not a good idea if you dont have a modchip..

So I can do just what I said above:

"So if I copy the files over to E:\Dashboards\UIX then go into XBMC, and use it's file manager, go to E:\Dashboards\UIX\uix.xbe this will launch the UIX dashboard?

still need help making iso. burn it as an image at 4x and the comp says boot disc error, insert system disc now.
tbird2340
kingroach, I just tried FTP'ing the files to my xbox. I connect to my Xbox w/ FlashFXP and it uploads one file then my xbox locks up. I reboot my xbox and try again and it just keeps happening.

Any ideas?
kingroach
rename linux>isolinux>linux.boot to boot.cat and make the iso..

download isobuster.. www.isobuster.com.. after you make the iso , open the iso with isobuster and see if its bootable..
