I'm trying to install evolution x with slayers autoinstaller and have thus far been unable to get my xbox to read any burned media. This is what I'm working with: Xecutor 2.3Pro mod chip with X2 4982 bios and I've got a Samsung DVD drive. I flashed the bios using Memorex CD-RW 4x and Nero with no problems. Since then I've been trying to install the dashboard. I've used the Memorex CD-RW, TDK DVD-R, and Fujifilm CD-R (I read somewhere that the samsungs particularly like that one). Thus far I've had no luck. I've even tried using burning with Nero using the UDF/ISO tab and selecting the force DVD-compatibility tab. As far as I can tell I've followed all the instructions to the T and am still having no success. Once I burn a CD, I'm turning on the xbox in mod mode, placing the CD in the DVD and turning the xbox off then restarting it. Then every time I get the-can't read disk.

At this point I don't know if I should keep burning the slayers.iso onto the same media and keep trying (I've read some say it takes several attempts before a successful read) or if I need some drastic new approach. Thanks for any help!

I have tried many types of CDR/CDRW/DVD-R with my Samsung drives, and they all work.
Have you verified the contents of the ISO? Open it with Craxtion 4 and check that there is a 'default.xbe' at the top level of the archive.
What version of Nero are you using? In Nero 6, when you select Recorder -> Burn Image from the menu, are you clicking 'Finalize' and selecting the slowest speed possible?
If using CDRW, are you using Recorder -> Erase Rewritable Disc from the menu first?
Can you get any other ISO to work?

Yes, I've checked the iso and it's got all the stuff slayer's autoinstaller is supposed to have

I'm using Nero 6, yes I'm finalizing and burning at the slowest speed

Yes, and I've been using new CDRW as well.

No, all I have tried is the evolution x dashboard, both the manual way (burning the default.xbe, evox.ini, etc, ) and using slayers, so far I haven't been able to get anything to read.

Okay, I went back and looked at all the burned discs I had made with craxton to make sure the iso was there. It shows the slayers.iso on the CD, but when I try to open it to review the contents it says invalid iso or iso empty. Does this mean that it has not been burned correctly? This is driving me crazy!

If you can see a file called "slayer.iso" on the CD/DVD media than you have not burnt it correctly.

Open "Nero Burning ROM", select "Recorder" from the menu and then select "Burn Image..." from the recorder menu.

Then point to the slayer.ISO file.

Make sure you close the disk before starting the process.

Once the burning is done properly, you will not be able to use windows explorer to view the disk, it will not recognise the CD (it will appear blank).

Now use Craxtion to look in the disk.

Hope that helps... biggrin.gif

Well, I thought that was what I was doing but I wasn't. I had been using the burn ISO, anyways now it works with the burn image! Thanks all for the help!

Well, glad you finally worked it out - but dude, you gotta learn to read the advice properly tongue.gif
That is a very common problem which is why Nightfire-Player and myself kept mentioning how to do it. At least your newbiness level has lowered a little now.

Good luck with the rest.
