OK now it time for my morning rant.... mad.gif

Why do us people in the UK always get the short straw when it comes to release dates.

Classic example:

Doom 3 - US release date 2-3 August. UK release date 12-13 August.

Can somebody tell me why this is? It's not as if they have to recode the game for PAL or anything. Most people that I know in the UK have already acquired the game from the internet huh.gif (scares the life out of you when played in the dark)

I they are looking to crack down on software priacy then surely a worlwide release date could be arranged.. Other companies can perform this task, so why not ID. Most gamers that I socialise with do actually purchase games if thay are of good quality ie. farcry, UT2003/4, Quake, Dungeon Siege, NWN even after demo'ing games from the net tongue.gif

It's not just PC titles that this happens with, just look at GTA for the Xbox for an example it was release in the US in November last year, but the UK date got pushed back to February mad.gif

Just don't even get me started on movies & Region 1 Vs Region 2 DVD's mad.gif

any other thought's / comments...

Don't take it to the heart.

That is quite ass to say the least. If I could send you some cash to buy Phantom Dust when it comes out and it actually make it back to me, I will get you whatever games you want from over here as long as you pay for them. biggrin.gif

I'm not worried about picking up games from the US I have quite a few contacts, where I can pickup Games from overseas... It just makes me really angry that we have to wait to get new releases & then get charged a premium for them.

The UK price for Phantom Dust is £32.99 from http://www.play.com - no release date as of yet - I can pick one up for you if you want..

Its just what happens, sometimes you guys get stuff before us. Not as often, but there are more video game developers here than in Europe. You do get alot of great Region 2 Special Edition DVD's that we never even see over here. And don't get me started on the fact that you guys have releases of the original He-Man cartoon on DVD and so far we've got nothing. Plus some games come out in Japan before either one of us gets them. So we should really complain about that instead. tongue.gif

I totally agree with you Dagoth. Imagine how many people will be downloading Halo2 in Europe simply because they can’t wait another day and don’t have the option to buy it. Some gamers are like a bunch of crackheads who simply can’t wait for their next fix. And so like an addict may resort to obtaining it through methods they may not normally do.
Anyway that’s my stupid analogy on the subject.

I was so excited when GTA 3 & VC was coming to XBOX but when I found out that the UK will get it in February I was so angry mad.gif So I just downloaded both games and completed them even before they out in the UK. I could have easily bought the double pack as I was working at a games store but no point because when it was out I had finished both and was getting bored with both of them.

I agree with what you are saying in regards to having global release times especially now with online games as it sucks to think others are enjoying playing against each other while you sit and wait and hope that people will still be playing by the time it reaches you.
However, there is always someone worse off than you. I am in New Zealand where we often get releases after the UK, the same goes for Australia who oftens has a couple of days jump on us, and we are a full day ahead of you guys. So when you get Halo 2 on the 11th of Nov a couple of days after the US, we get it on the 12th!
But it is not all one-sided, the US didn't get Colin McRae Rally till a couple of years after PAL territories and Richard Burns Rally does not have a US release date yet.

its all down to population...

the UK has a population of 60-70 million.. whereas the US has a population of 250+ ??

The xbox was first release in the US and has sold very well, so M$ felt that they didn't have to produce special edition boxes to tempt new customers. the UK on the other hand was a new emerging marking for MS to exploit (the same case as Japan - which is why Japan has had loads more special edition consoles)

Us has a bigger market and besides alot of games are made in the us particularly for the xbox. Just look at japan and how many games come out there first.
