I'm new here... just received my Matrix chip and installed perfect. I am able to play all my backups. My question is... I am not able to play any SVCD's ? I do not have a dashboard installed on the xbox. Just the chip with an EVOX bios.

Do I need to have media player or some program loaded with a dashboard to play SVCDs ?

I am using regular cd-r's... are they able to be read or would a cd-rw be better ?

Any help would be great as I am not very familiar with the process of playing the SVCD format.

ohwell, i'll answer your question then.

to play svcd (or other media like divx, xvid,...) you will need additional software.
I would suggest you get the xbox mediaplayer.

as for the cdr media, you'll have to test this on your own, some xbox consoles read cd-r's some don't.
