I've browsed for awhile now, and still havent found a clear cut answer to my questions, so I'm going to be the noob that I am and post. I recently modded my XBox, its a v1.4 now running x2-4981.06 bios, evolution 3935 dash and the original hard drive. I want to put in a new 250GB drive I have lying around. If I create an XBoxHDM cd with all the stuff thats currently on my C partition in the C folder, and the stuff on E in the E folder, and build the new drive from that, will I have any problem just sticking that in the XBox and booting up afterwards? Am I going to need to modify the evolution dash or the bios to take the drive as it is larger than 137GB, or is that already built into the bios? Lastly, do I need to lock the drive so that I can access the M$ dashboard from evolution, or does the bios change eliminate the need for locking alltogether (I dont plan to go on XBL ever). Thanks in advance for any help.

When i upgraded mine i used slayers evox install disk 2.5 and on there is every thing you need to add a drive bigger than 137g
i did lock the drive
There is also a good guide (word doc) with the copy i got explaining which bios etc to use
the only thing i did was alter the xml file in the media player so it could see the drive
hope this helps

I got the hard drive in with no problems using xboxhdm, can still FTP to it and all that, load my save games etc. I just noticed today, however, that I cannot write to the hard drive (from Tiger Woods '04 atleast). Do I have to have the drive locked for a retail game to be able to write a savegame to the drive? Could this be anything else?

Nope, you only need a locked drive to go on XBL and boot the original MS dash... all you need to do though is download the 4983.06 bios "from the usual places" if you want 1 large F drive or 4983.67 if you want an F and G drive, then you flash it to your modchip, backup your C, E, and F drives (this will backup your saves too) to your PC, put your 250GB in your xbox and boot up from an Evox disc and format the drive and all theres left to do is FTP your backup of your old drive to your XBOX and you'll be all set.
