i really like BSX and have not really had any problems with it but...
i have a couple of questions related to customizing it.
i use the HDDLOADER utility to backup my games to the hard drive. that program does not automatically name the directory that the games are copied to related to the name of the game. it winds up being pretty confusing when you are trying to find your favorite game out of a list of 30 games named PXX001 (or whatever) and so on. EVOX is able to get the names of the games from the XBE's when EVOX loads and you have it set to look into the directory that HDDLOADER copies them into. so...
1) is there anyway to make BSX do the same? (i looked everywhere, but may have overlooked something obvious)
2) can it be implemented into the new BSX?
3) or if not, is there another utility similar to HDDLOADER that will name the destination directory based on the game name without me having to rename all the directories myself?

sorry such a long post but i am desperate.
this isn't just for me but also for my buddies whom i have modded XBOXes for.

oh yeah, what is the name of the file that holds the BlackStormX logo on the background of the selected orbs. i want to modify it so that it allows the menu text to be easier to read. -thanks

HDDLOADER is old. Get something like DVD2XBOX or Complex Tools that just makes a folder named from the xbe. Then all will be good.

also what most arent aware of when you change a px????? dir name in DVD2XBOX
it looks at the exe and opens the keyboard editor with the new name as a default

Im sure this was put in for the purpose of porting your hdloader rips easily into DVD2XBOX where BSX CAN read the game names from


so you go to change your name, and end up just hitting done as the name is allready there for you

I have heard of an app or two that changes the names for you as well, but I never looked into it as DVD2XBOX was sufficient enough...

lots of good info. thank you. now i just have to modify my AutoInstaller and make sure to let everyone that i mod boXes for that that's what they need to use. i tried it out today and it works great! i didn't mind trying something else i just didn't want to have to re-teach everyone to use something else. mainly wondered if BSX would/did/could have the same feature as EVOX.

but about the other question...

I think you're talking about menubacking.xbx in the skin.xip? Just delete it and it'll be transparent and cool-lookin'.

removing that file worked great! i thought about that but wasn't sure about testing it because i didn't want to render BSX useless. that probably looks better than it would if i would have changed the menubacking file.
