I was having a hard time getting the ltools SC gamesave to transfer to my usb stick with Action Replay. I read this entire thread and I still couldn't figure out the problem. But I finally figured out what my problem was. The SC gamesave has two parts and I thought that they were supposed to be combined into one UDATA folder and then zipped and then transfered to the usb stick through Action Replay. WRONG. You must make two zip files (two UDATA folders) in order for Action Replay to transfer them. Otherwise it will keep telling you invalid gamesave file (or something like this). Once you transfer both files to your usb stick or your memcard, save them to your harddrive and run the game. Click on linux and all should be well. Maybe this will help someone.

used my usb softmod on a 1.6 and worked great! Scandisk Cruser 256mb. $25 at Staples.

1 1/2 years ago i made an dapapter cable without soldering by just cutting an usb cable and putting the cabels into the small holes of the xpad connector without opeining it.

has someone still the pictures in which order the cables have to go in the holes?

Also, just to clarify, if you formatted a USB stick with an older xbox, it will now work in ANY xbox. So if you, for example, used a 1.0 to format the card, and wanted to use it in a 1.6, you can. All i was saying is that be careful if you want to buy an xbox and you only want to use a USb stick to transfer the exploit and you don't have any means of getting a hold of an older xbox, because the 1.6 might not format it.

Anyone struggling with this who is 100% the files are zipped correct and datelinfo.xbx are correct and still are unable to view the 2 files in the saves manager, and can't even drag and drop them.
Try this... rename two files in "C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay XBOX\Saves" - default installation
SplinterCe_AllLevelsU.zip and Stake_Thorunlock.zip to say.... ie XXXSplinterCe_AllLevelsU.zip and XXXStake_Thorunlock.zip these are the ones I chose. (This is just to back them up) ....
Rename The zip......... part2 = SplinterCe_AllLevelsU.zip
& part1 = Stake_Thorunlock.zip

Boot up AR refresh the saves list...and drag these 2 files across to the memory stick from the menu... This is the only way I was able to get the exploit onto the memory stick AR would just not see these files....Then just wack it in the xbox and go from there.....

i have a usb adapter for the controller slot, it come with my xenium ice, will that let me use a usb pen as a mem card?

btw, the usb adapter plugs right into a usb controller slot.

I was able to get a v1.6 box to flash/erase a ScanDisk 32mb SD-card inserted in a Thrust 910Z digicam, and it worked perfectly as a mem-card after that (except if you turn it off, the digicam will discover the fatx-formatting and erase it one more time).

Thought you might want to remove the "v1.6 not compatible" from the original post ?

i have ALL posts 3 times now, and still cant get this to work.

i have a Kingston DataTraveler 256 MB (usb 2.0) its on the compatible list, so it should work.

when i put it in (i have done it at every different place in the dashboard) it blinks while at the memory screen, but give no error nor any other type of msg.

btw, its a 1.0 xbox, and i do it with a chip disabled and enabled. i have the newest dash.

if someone got this to work please help me, i have tried lots of things, but nothing works.

oh, do i have to pre format it at my computer? if so which settings would i use?

I had the exact same problem on my v1.0 box (also latest dash). When I inserted the memory-key (usb2 MicroMemory) the Memory-menu would blink/flash and the box was "slow" to respond (it took at least 8 attempts to exit the memory-menu - also I got no "official" errors of any sort).

The only thing I can tell you is that I found a different USB-storage device, which worked perfectly (Thrust digicam with SD-card inserted), so I'd say you have to get a different USB-key

this is the easiest mod you could do and it pays for itself

my Kingston DataTraveler 256 MB just plain doesn't work and its on the compatibility list

since that list made a mistake, what have you guys use to get this working? if possible the price or where you bought it.

you already have a chip installed,why do you so badly have to have a USB stick work on yuor xbox? I mean,if it's to transfer saves, just FTP into your xbox and go into the E:\UDATA folder

Everyone's xbox is different. my 1.6 won't take anything, so that's where i got my info.

im going to be doing a softmod for a friend but dont have a memory card, and i do have a usb stick

get a real xbox memory card, you'll save yourself a lot of hastle.

usb sticks are usually cheaper than mem cards plus they really have two functions, not just xbox

with that said, anyone know where i can get a working usb stick for less than that of a memory card?

Have you tried booting the box with stick in?
Placing the stick in at the main dash menu?
All I did was used an Apacer Handy Steno 2.0 64mb stick... Placed it in memory slot with a xbox port to usb conversion cable(ie... from liksang)....It flashed the LED and gave an error message...which is good....Place in pc with the maxdrivers installed....It then recognised as xbox memory stick via AR... thats it...

As long as you are 100% sure its the stick or you maybe spending money on sticks for no reason !!!!

For info, I have had no problem with my 1.6 XBOX using a Apacer 128M USB stick, can save and play no problem.

I do have one problem...... (don't we all!)

I have the MechAssault Game on a PAL system. But I cannot seem to find on xbins the PAL version of "Mechassault_save_with_evox_PAL" the NTSC is there under itools but no PAL version.

Is the file in a different location on xbins, or can I mod it to PAL version.

Is there any other place I can find the PAL version?

I tried using my digi camera as a memory card, it has a 128mb flash card ok. So, xbox formatted it, and it was working. Did this a few times, as I hadnt yet installed the action replay and found this post, so I was just trying to do it through my computer.

Anyways, now my xbox says the card is corrupt, my pc can't read it as usual, AND my digi camera cant read/format it....?

basically, it seems to have screwed my flash card, any ideas......or am I just missing something.

this is why i said not to use digital cameras... YOU CAN SCREW IT UP. put it in the PC's USB port, go into the device manager, look for the device that pops up, uninstall it's driver, unplug it, plug it back in, then format it to the filesystem in it's manual.

I read what you said about not using the digi cameras for that reason, but my camera has an option on it to reformat the card, so that the camera can use it. So you should be able to format it when the camera's not even connected to the pc, for when you buy a new disk for example.

My camera simply doesn't even recognise that there is a card there anymore, so I can't do anything with it. I wouldnt have thought it could actually damage the card, the file system yes, but not the card itself. Surely if it was just the filesystem/stuff-on-the-card I could just format it as usual.

Guess I'll just have to buy a new card then, and probably borrow a USB pen-drive from someone and hope that works. Or put the card into a different SD card reader and see if I can format it from there.

i got a USB stick that works and i put the 007 save game on it and loaded it up in the xbox, the screen goes black and says loading Media X, then it comes up with a screen with the IP address on it. After i hit any button the screen goes black and then comes up with Your xbox requires service. The number 21 is in the upper left hand corner. What can i do from here.

Hey i dont understand.. i try the usb key from my friend (Lexar 512meg) and my xbox 1.6 work very well with this usb key .. i can complete my game save exploit.
On some post some poeple said the xbox 1.6 is not compatible with usb device ?

thanks a lot i finally got it to work with a lexmark jumpdrive secure, it was just the usb stick i was using, i dont know how you guys had problems after you formated the stick...

press the B button (you are using ltools if you didn't know), if that doesn't work, you have a courupted part of your gamesave exploit because of your memory card not being big enough/incompatible. you can try getting a smaller gamesave exploit (like 007_AUF_NTSC_with_Evox.rar from xbins), get FTP access, put the ltools folders in the E:/UDATA folder (just match up the numbers on the folders), delete the "with_evox" save, run ltools again, and it should work.

specter: yes, on most 1.6 xbox i've seen, they cannot format USB memory sticks/storage devices because M$ got smart and fixed the later dashes and kernels to not allow this. However, there have been people (like yourself) who have a fluke 1.6 xbox and can format certain sticks. I have tried many sticks on my 1.6 xbox, and none of them worked (and i couldn't try anymore because my local Staples got pissed off at me for returning and buying and returning a product every day for about a week and half ).

So hey, my USB stick works on my recent Crystal Xbox, bought in November 2004, which I believe is 1.6 territory. It's my Live box, so I haven't checked which version it is for definite.

I'm using a Sandisk 128MB Cruzer Mini USB 2.0 Flash drive, and it works perfectly; hooked it up with an Xbox > USB female port and took my saves from my modded Xbox to my Live one

Plus I store my Live account on it. Useful.

What I need now is a memcard port > USB female converter now, so I can use it in a controller

Do not use the AR memory card. the only thing you can count on is that they will courrupt large gamesaves (such as ltools). create a USB stick memory card with my tut or follow vintage_guitar's tut.

I have a USB memory stick that works perfectly as a memory card on the xbox, but for some reason I can't get XP to use the modifed AR Driver. It just says "This file contains no information about your hardware". Someone else had this problem earlier but he never posted his solution. Any ideas?

i have found that latest 1.6 boxes are not compatible with non-ms memcards.
i do alot of softmodding, so believe me, i tried alot.

just use an original ms memcard, and buy an extra controller to make an usb-controller cable, so the controller can be connected to the pc.

Tutorial is somewhere on xboxlinux.

i hope i helped some people not getting them latest 1.6 modded with theur usb-stick.

I have the exact same Kernel and Dash versions as you and a v1.6 Xbox, and after reading on this board that a USB-Stick wouldn't work with it, I went ahead and tried it for myself. To my surprise, it did work. So maybe it's just the brands people've been using that don't work?

Maybe the creator of this thread should edit his inicial post saying that some USB-sticks that worked with previous Xbox versions do not work with the new 1.6 versions?

I would, but a few months ago the admins/moderators of the boards changed the edit function to only work after the first 15 minutes a post has been put up. So, that guide is stuck that way. Like i said before, EVERY XBOX IS DIFFERENT. some 1.6's format, some don't.
