as i've said before, some people have gotten 1.6's to work.

Also, there's going to be a upgrade to this tut in a few days. I've got some new findings and some needed advice for those who can't get this to work.

Check by Saturday, it should be up by then. I can't do it now... my exams coming up and they're always a bitch.

I have gotten everything to work on the PC side of this and have the gamesave on my USB stick and its recognized in my XBox. After I copy it to the HDD and load up Mech Assault i get this error when I try to run the save...
Unable to load <Run Linux>.
Press A to continue.
I have narrowed it to one or both of two problems. It could ne that I have the wrong gamesave, but I've tried both Mech Assault saves from the usual places. It could be the Mech Assault disc. I borrowed it from a friend and it is legit, but I believe it is the disc that comes with the Live package. Is that considered an original Mech Assault where the gamesaves should work?

I am using an ipod mini, The xbox formated it correctly. I did the change the digits thing with the action replay. I inatalled the driver called maxdrive. ITs all recongnized, until i open action replay and nothing happens.

My CompactFlash card reader works perfectly fine with my 1.6 Xbox... I don't know what brand it is, though, unfortunately sad.gif
grasskicker9
hey forthex...i'm not a noobie seeing as ive been tryin to do this for a while....ive researched different methods including Mad Gouki's Linux chipless mod (here). Anyways, i "obtained" a copy of Action Replay (vers 1.02) and I followed the steps you gave as far as I could. The problem I'm having is that Action Replay doesn't recognize my new Action Replay compatible memory stick. I have a sandisk cruzer mini 128mb. I know that another user at the beginning of your forum had a similar problem but I have searched the web and still havent found a solution as to how I can get mine to work. It's on the compatibility list so it should work. Any tips? (The compatibility list said something about using a 8-32mb image which I think comes from ozymemory.rar but I'm not sure). TIA
forthex
the image files they suggest using are for xbox-linux.com's mechassualt Linux hack, which uses the primitive font hack AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS! Can you format the memory card? If you can, can you transfer a gamesave from the hard drive to the memory card?
grasskicker9
If by memory card you mean the memory stick that i formatted to work with Action Replay, then no. When I put the stick into my computer, it doesn't even come up in My Computer. Therefore I can't put any files directly onto the memory stick. Is there some other form of formatting that I can do to where Action Replay will be able to recognize the stick? Or am I going to have to just try out another brand? Thanks
forthex
Ok, so, you formatted the card, and that's the first step. Just remeber that XP cannot read the FATX filesystem in an explorer window. That's why you don't see it in My Computer. That's where the AR software comes in, because it knows how to read, format, and edit the FATX filesystem.

plug the device in, and open up USBview.exe. If you cannot tell which device it is, then look at all the devices plugged in, remove the card, click file/refresh, then look for the device that's missing. If you plug it back in and see that all of them are back on, the device that you did not see before is the one there now. Click on it and find it's VID and PID numbers (xxxx and yyyy digits in the tut) and copy them into BOTH of the AR driver files. (there's one in the programs root directory (where the ActionReplayXbox.exe is) and one in the "drivers" folder).

Also to everyone, about the update: My final exams are in a week and a half, so i have to study (an they've always been a real bitch!). Sorry, but in a few weeks you should see it.

I did evrything but I cant get it to work. huh.gif

Tried a kingston datatraveler 128- didnīt work grr.gif

Ipod Mini (old) was recongnized on xbox, but not by action replay

I have a Theory that only fat32 systems work dry.gif

Hello there, having trouble trying to get a gamesave on a usb card.

I have tried using two different cameras and a 4-1 card reader, only one camera was recognised by the action replay software. When I tried copying over the prepared saves it gave me an error 'not enough space', although the cards I tried were 128 and 512 both formated by the xbox.

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found a solution, or has any suggestions.

Thanks,
Adam

Yeah. It don't work tongue.gif...

wanna find out what sticks are compatible, but the stupid list isnt working, the one i plan on buying is at www.marx-computers.com the first one in the memory section, 128MB, can anyone tell me if this is a good choice? rolleyes.gif

128MB TwinMos Mobile disk IV beerchug.gif works perfect
ChronicKind
I was thinking I could use my PSP for this but It would probably fuck it up or something so I dont know if I should.
Irish GrumPy
probably,u could pick up a usb stick for $10-15, or if u have a digital camera memory card thingy, use that.
ChronicKind
I guess it would help to have money eh? lol
Irish GrumPy
u dont have $10 bucks? sad.gif

I've got my memory card converted, and its recongized by the xbox and AR software as well, but I can't get the files I've edited to show up. I'm not sure if I"m not just putting them in the folder wrong. I also wasn't sure if what I just needed to dow was just add the files to another archive... Just having issues getting the edited files into the AR program in other words.
Irish GrumPy
the udata folders must be in .zip format
Dragon_Kicker
First off, my fujitsu 256 isnt recognized by the box.

But I hooked up my PSP up to it in USB mode and it worked just fine. (via a mini usb cable and xbox -> female USB of course)

<3 PSP.

Ehhh otherwise nice work on the tut, hard to goof with all the instuctions. beerchug.gif

I have some no name 128meg stick that works great. Thanks for the tutorial.
I just purchased a clearance memory stick from walmart today. It is labeled Impact brand and is 256meg. My local walmart had them for $12.00. It is actually a rebranded Lexar stick. It also worked with no problems.
Check your walmart they might have some also.

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Lexar JumpDrive Classic 128mb works because it is not listed in the Xbox Usb Compatibility List

TIA

i keep getting "error writing the save" when i try to drag from pc database to my usb stick. =(
Irish GrumPy
either your memory device sucks, or the file isnt .zip. make sure you put card in xbox first, so the xbox formats it....

Hello,
I seem to be having a problem not addressed here or anywhere in fact. I cannot get past the part that states:
QUOTE
Now, on the Hardware Update Driver window, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", and click next. Select "Don't Search. I will choose the driver the install". Click next. Select "ActionReplay XBOX" and click next.

For me, the driver is simply not listed in the possibilities. So I tried the "Have Disk" option. I browsed to the location of the xbreader.inf file, selected it, and hit open. Windows then gave me the message:
QUOTE
The specified location does not contain information about your hardware

I know I have xbreader.inf setup properly (I have checked it against the tutorial and USB view so many times I am sick of it). The USB device (actually a compactflash reader and card) would seem to be the correct one since its information in USB view was the same as that of the one in the tutorial, and the Xbox finds the device and reformats it just as described. The device shows up as a generic mass storage device, if that helps any. The only problem is that Windows refuses to change the driver to the proper one (for my purposes).

Perhaps the problem is my version of Windows XP? I have XP home sp2. I know for sp2, they changed some parts of the driver installation screens. Could this have anything to do with it? (Note: I am NOT willing to uninstall sp2 just to make this work).

One interesting thing to note is that by going into control panel then add new hardware, I was able to install the proper drivers, the problem was just that they were disconnected from the device.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
mugsy3117
Are you using the correct driver file? C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay XBOX\Drivers\ is the file you should be editing and using as your driver. You may have edited the one in C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay XBOX\ and tried to use the one in drivers (or vice versa).
forthex
with the most current AR software, there are 2 (two) dirver files to modify. One under,

C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay XBOX\xbreader.inf and

C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay XBOX\Drivers\xbreader.inf

Well, it worked for my 1.6 xbox. I am not sure why it's not supossed to work. I used a 128 Mb SMC and a modified USB cable. It wouldn't format my 128Mb USB stick, tho, but it didn't have a problem with my SMC.

but seeing as you can use your buddies xbox make it way easier:

use HIS xbox to format your USB stick. Use HIS xbox to copy over the savegame to your USB stick (as he probably has FTP access to it)
mugsy3117
Yeah actually the tutorial is incorrect in that manner. Although v1.6 xboxes are pickier with USB devices, they can still format and read many of them. Formatted my Lexar 128mb jump drive and my compact flash reader/card combo.

Yes, I am using and editing the correct files.

After some experimentation on my own, on the line that says:
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
I replaced USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE with STORAGE\Volume since STORAGE\Volume is the value that shows up in Hardware Id under the properties for this device. The end result was that Windows accepted the file - sort of. It accepted it and started installing the driver, however right after the screen where it said that it was copying xbreader.sys to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers, the computer unexpectedly restarted (complete shutdown and restart). I tried this on a different computer (with XP PRO SP2) and it exhibited the same behavior (except it paused long enough for me to see a blue screen of death momentarily). This other computer also said (when Windows came back up that it had just recoverd from a serious problem (or something to that extent) (does using Windows installed count as a serious problem?).

On both computers, once Windows came back up, the device showed up as a USBIO controlled device with the driver from Datel. But actionreplay refused to enumerate the device on both machines, and on further inspection of the driver properties, clicking on Driver Details (which normally lists the driver files used) yields the a message box saying "No Driver Files are required or have been loaded for this device" (I suspect the latter).

Note that I have tried this multiple times with multiple versions of ActionReplay (several times uninstalling everything completely). I have also tried reformating the card and using other card readers. So, does anybody have any ideas of what I could try next?

One possibility I found in this was using Xebian (which I plan to eventually install anyway) to copy the gamesave to the USB drive. See here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=348096 . Would I be better off forgetting all this stuff with ActionReplay and just using Linux, or is there a possibility this ActionReplay method (which seems to be easier, when it works) could still work?

Hello all. I am having some difficulty installing the action replay drivers for the USB key. I am using a SanDisk Mini Cruzer 512MB USB2.0 drive. I can format it fine on the xbox. I edit the inf file the way it says to. When I go to update my drivers, a) when i don't search, the action replay drivers aren't listed b)when i set it to search the action replay directory it still does not identify the driver. Can anyone offer a solution to this? Thanks.

When you say
QUOTE
a) when i don't search, the action replay drivers aren't listed
where are they not listed? You must click on "Have Disk..." and browse for the drivers manually. The correct driver file will be the one that you previously edited (I assume you will remember where to find this file)

I've read all I can find about "USB device failed to enumerate" but I still can't get AR to see my 128mb jumpdrive. I was able to erase it on the xbox and put a saved profile on it fine. I put the 2 sets of 4 digits as explained, clicked have disk, it calls it a maxdrive xbox, but the Icon in the corner stays grey. I tried totally uninstalling reinstalling, but when I try to point it to the drivers, it always shows maxdrive and usb mass storage, but won't let me use the reloaded drivers from the driver folder? It says "the specified location doesn't cantain information about your hardware" although it does. I'm assuming there's a driver inf cache that needs to be deleted. I looked for the xbreader.inf under all of c:\windows\* but found none.
ptrix
I am having this same problem.

They aren't listed when you click to choose from a list. When I search for them from the directory, it says no device info found. I am trying to xebian method and am having no luck either. xebian won't mount my usbkey.
Irish GrumPy
that happened me, make sure you select USBO (or similar) devices from the device maager, you will NOT be able to assign the AR driver if you select your usb stick from "disk drives" must find your usb stick under USB devices, near bottom of list... http://community.webshots.com/photo/399921...399921495xbEPef
zewly
I think that's kinda obvious that it's the selection on the bottom. It's the only one that says "USB MASS STORAGE", I don't think anyone missed that.
zewly
Wouldn't let me edit my last post? Anyway I never could get AR working but I got ozxexplorer working, but can't find any splinter cell img files? anyone know where to get them? Or make a fatx img?
ptrix
If you are having trouble getting it installed, i have a few pointers. First, you're gunna wanna copy over xbreader.sys to c:\windows\systems32\drivers and when you go to device manager and click "don't search..." and uncheck the show compatible drivers. It should show up.

Just give'n advice rolleyes.gif

Hi guys, I have an answer AND a question for you.

I have experience and seen lots of problem about installing the drivers for the USB drive on Windows XP.

Here's the clarification for this Awsome Tutorial( I assume that your xbox is already setup to have a
USB Key connected to it, that you have installed Action Replay and mostly: that you have red the tutorial)

Step 1: Connect the USB Key. Go to memory. The XBOX warn you that the Memory was erased.
(USB drive as been formatted with XBOX File system)

Step 2: Unplug the USB drive, shut down your XBOX

Step 3: Plug the USB drive to your PC and have windows detect it.

Step 4: Then use USBVIEW.exe to find out the vendor ID and Product ID.
(Look on the first page of this Tutorial) Take those informations in notes.

Step 5: This is the crucial step that people tends to scrap. Please rely on the 1st page(step that
explain xbreader EDIT) of this tutorial with these clarifications: The Vendor ID and Product ID in the
xbreader.ini file MUST BE 4 caracters. Not more, not less. Make sure that you take out only the 4
existing caracter of each ID and replace them with the one you took in USBVIEW.exe
e.g. 0xA400 (forget about the 0x and only put the A400 in the .ini file)

Step 6: Update the driver and go to step Have Disk. Select the xbreader.ini file as the driver. If it
tells you that it cannot find suitable driver for your device then the infos in the ini aren't good.

I spent las night try to figure out this... there is a .sys file in
c:\program files\Datel\Action Replay\Drivers. If it's still doesn't work, try coping this .sys file to
c:\Windows\System32\drivers folder.

It worked for me.

Good luck!!

MY QUESTION NOW:
I used the save exploits for splinter cell with eVoX on it. I started the game, loaded the profile, then
my XBOX restarded in the eVoX Dashboard(it took around 2 minutes, but the tutorials on the we are speaking
more about 30 minutes). Now what?
Do I have to flash the BIOS? or do anything else? or my game should be running?
(I didn't have time to copy one of my game for backup to test it)

Thanks guys! Thanks forthex
forthex
the "game_with_evox" saves are only to be used to allow you to FTP into your Xbox. If you want a fully soft-modded xbox, use Krayzie's Installer.

I used Krayzie's installer after transfering the files. When I loaded the Splinter Cell Save, the x-box video went out and the eject button turned Red. When I pressed the eject button, the x-box booted up (MS Dash), and went to a black screen with a white bar. Nothing else happened.

Has this happened to anyone else? The xbox still works, but it still only boots to MS Dash. Unleash is on the HDD now though. I'm confused sad.gif

nothing to do with your memory stick, apparently the SC save causes problems sometimes,
