i got the Itools SC v1.7 NTSC
just a few questions
1) i wanted the evox dash, so if it auto-installs whatever i want, do i need to unzip the files? or are they fine the way they are
2) can i add my own files in the "files" folder?
3) if i ever wanted a mod chip, how could i revert to completely stock form, with no left over files from this exploit?
4) so the basic method is open the profile and load the checkpoint "LINUX" and it'll bring me to the install screen?
5) is this a permanent soft-mod? (not just lets u ftp in, but boots to the alternate dash every time)
thnx for yur time

a few more questions
1) do the Itools suffer from the clock loop?
2) is it true if your dash is updated, the Itools is screwed over?

ok, so I have all of the software, the hardware and everything. I've gotten to the point where I'm supposed to transfer the files to the USB using AR, but I can't find the files at all using AR, I have everything in order, they are zipped. Can someone help me?

Alright, I've followed the guide all the way through, modified my SanDisk 256 Cruzer Micro, and copied (with a bit of trouble; but it's there) the two saves I needed.
I fully understand that you can perform backups, but is it easy to remove the softmods? If it helps to know, I'm not technologically illiterate. (But maybe a bit of a newbie as far as xbox modding goes.)
Also, when you load the Linux profile in splinter cell, does it automatically install, or just give a "preview" with option to install from there?

Got another question. A friend of mine has the SC softmod exploit installed, and claims he's deleted his MS dashboard. Any ways to restore it?
I heard that you have the option to restore the dashboard in the softmod setup. I've never seen it before, but is this true?

Instead of pluging in your card to the xbox first, could you plug in an xbox memory card to your computer, and then use the idVendor: 0xyyyy & idProduct: 0xzzzz from that card?

I created a usb adapter cable yesterday to use with a card reader for sony memory sick and CF cards. In order to test to see if i would be able to use it i am trying it on my already modded xbox. This is what I'm doing:
-When I plug the memory stick/CF reader to the xbox and boot into MSdash..it freezes my controller and can't do anything.
-When I boot into MSdash and plug adapter at the menu screen I can go into "Memory" but it doesn't see the memory card...just goes to saves on HDD. Like if nothing was present. I've tried putting 4 different CF cards in there and 2 different memory sticks (sony/sandisk). They all do the same thing.
-I also tried using my Nikon Coolpix camera with the CF cards in them as the adpter with no luck. With so many types of cards that i've tried (Lexar, Nikon, Cannon and Sandisk) I'm starting to wonder...Is it just my bad luck or did i do something wrong.
So, Bottomline is that I don't know if bypassing or not erroring out is the common symptom for when media is not compatible....OR...maybe I have done something wrong with the actual adapter hook-up.
I would appreciate any help.

Hi ive been solidly researching why this isnt working and cant find anywhere where im going wrong.
Ive got a compatible usb drive (lexar jumpdrive secure 256) and have edited the xbreader.inf, tryed using megaxkey and action replay and nothing detects the card in the software. the card is recognised as a megaXkey in device manager, and works perfectly on the xbox. formatted it to fatX and can copy saves onto and from the card on the xbox dash, but on the PC it wont recognise it. strangely i tryed a hacked version of the megaxkey available in the xbox scene tools and it found the card, and claimed to write to it, but nothing was on there when i pluged it back into the xbox.
I also have a converter for the xbox controller so i tryed the normal xbox memory cards, same problem. Edited xbreader, Action replay finds the card this time though, but when i try transfer the data it always crashes. Once it completed the transfer, but nothing was on the card when i tryed it in the xbox.
The usb card IS recognised by ozxmemory, and says its fatX, but i cant figure out how to convert the .zip saves into images and write them onto the card.
Please help! ive traulled through so many forums for about 3 weeks now and i just want a softmodded xbox
As soon as i can ge the saves on the xbox im good to go!
Thanks, Dave

i have a 1.6 xbox. i followed your tutorial with my intelli stick 64mb and i made an adapter using one of those usb to ps/2 mouse adapters. i cut it in half and removed all of the hot glue to get the wires. i cut up an xbox break away cable and soldered the connectors together. then i formated the drive in the xbox. modified the ar drivers and put the save on there. It worked great.
Awesome tutorial, although i don't know why nobody has been able to use a usb stick on a 1.6 xbox though. unless it only works on 1.6a or something.

It worked on my 1.6! And it hadn't worked before!
I looked at this, thought 'Hmm... can't hurt to try again', so I unloaded halo 2, plugged my usb adapter into the third port and plugged in my usb drive. The activity light flickered, as though it wasn't recieving enough power. I tried it, and the xbox didn't detect my memory stick. I decided to unplug my xbox controller (after going back to the main menu) from port 1 and plug the usb adappter in. This time, it worked!
Sorry if this is old but it's given me a shock.
P.S.
I just did some more testing, and I think I've discovered how to do it.
Step 1. Boot up your xbox with the controller in port 1.
Step 2. Unplug that controller and put it in port 2 (You don't need to plug it in if you have more than one controller, just use the other controller to move around.)
Step 3. Plug in your USB flash stick to the now empty port 1.
Step 4. Enter the 'Memory' menu.
Step 5. Voila! Memory Unit 1A has been formatted on your v1.6 xbox!

EDIT: (Edit button dissappeared on me

) For those that are curious, I have a cheap memory stick that uses a PL-2515 chip. From the datasheets I looked at (To see if it was possible to make the card bigger) everything with one of these chips should be compatable with the xbox..

Ive got 2 USB MAss Storage devices and both dont work
1st 1 is a MP3 player and wen ive installed it to work with AR it says only 1 block available so i format it and it gives me more, so i put the files onto it and plug it into my xbox and it just says: 'The memory unit you inserted isn't working correctly. It has been erased'
the 2nd 1 is a Pen Drive called 'integral 256mb': When i connect that to the xbox to format it it says: 'The memory unit you inserted isn't functioning; it may be damaged' - but i know it isn't coz i put stuff on it at school and brought it home.
Any help?

I've got the same problem, with PNY 128mb flash drive and a dazzle memory card reader... I get that error no matter would port i plug it into, could it be my usb adapter? I bought it from the net ready made, its a "xbox to usb keyboard" adapter, would it not work because it's a "keyboard adapter"?

UPADTE 4: v1.6 XBOX'S DO NOT WORK WITH NON-XBOX STORAGE DEVICES!
I have bought today a brand-new v1.6 Xbox with money I saved up during the summer. I tried to use my CF card and USB adapter on my new xbox (to see if i could softmod it, just as an experiment), but it did not work. Non xbox memory cards/storage devices DO NOT WORK WITH V1.6 XBOX'S!! I'm sorry, but the only way to transfer saves with a v1.6 is to make a USB male to xbox controller female adapter, plug an xbox controller into your computer, with an xbox memory card, and modify the AR drivers from there. I'll get more info later.
I don't know if this has already been addressed, but I recently softmodded my friend's 1.6 xbox. I just built my own Xbox->USB Female adapter, plugged in a SanDisk 128 MB Cruzer into my chipped box, formatted it, copied the MechAssault exploit over, then just plugged the USB stick into my friend's Xbox with the cable. It recognized it just fine and was able to copy the save over and softmod the Xbox. I checked the serial number, used several programs to check the version, and all said 1.6. So perhaps it's only certain versions of the 1.6? I believe there's two different 1.6's out.
My apologies if someone has already commented on this.

Alright guys after negating my sleep for about 48 hours as I tried to figure this out. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. After you add copy the file into the two exploit save files you have to create a .zip archive out of the files( 1 zip per file). Be sure that the Root of the zip is the UDATA folder. After this the action replay should recognize the file and allow you to transfer to memory card/ USB device. Also make sure that there are no extra txt files in the first few directories. For a more detailed explanation go
Here. If this had already been posted just think of this as a reminder. Now Im off to reap my reward and maybe even get a little

i tried the tutorial and AR says that my usb-stick has only 1 block free space (it's one with 256 mb space).
When i plug the usb in my xbox it says it has 2595 blocks free space, another thing i've noticed is that when i copy a gamesave from my xbox hd to the stick it always says the gamesave is corrupted.
The last problem i have is that when i copied a gamesave to the stick and put it back in the xbox the copied gamesave is gone

To you and the other guy who was having this problem just press right on the directional pad when in the xbox game save menu to highlight the actual gamesave. You should now have the option to copy the gamesave.

ok here goes maybe the thought that you could all have a good laugh at the first bit will inspire someone to answer my question, here goes: been working on this for 3 days now, i have read all the pages relating to this thread, i have made my own usb adapter( first day )also made it compatible with the cracked version of AR which was fun as i also had the problem of the memory disapearing untill i realised i could click on it and format it \o/ all my memory back ( all in first day ), i was using a iitronics 512 mp3 player at first and although AR recognised it and although the xbox gave me the error i was able to 1. copy the gamesave across to the memory card in AR 2. after putting the card in xbox erased it all the time

( its weird once its been attached to the xbox and has been erased the xbox see's it as a memory device and allows
me to copy other game saves across to it once i take it out and put it back on the pc it once again shows as full in AR

. ok this is were the fun starts, after trying everything i know and searching countless forumns and sites and many visits to the usual places ( quick note #$$$$-help is not really helpfull) i was still at a loss, so this morning i got back my iitronics 128 mp3 player and tried this one instead and would you believe it, it worked a charm everything went the usual way but after getting the error message that i now want to kill someone over i looked in the m$ dash memory so i could punch the screen and would you believe it the save exploits were there \o/ \o/. So great you think noooooooooooo this is were the nOOB in me came out and even though i had read all about how to copy the save across i had forgot as i was drunk at the time of reading it 5.32 ish in the morning, so once again i struck my head as the only option i had was to delete it ( thats why its red up there) so delete i did thinking it was a setting on the mp3 player that i had to change regarding online mode thinking to myself that i had done it once i can do it again

.... but i was wrong now i am back to were i was all those days ago, so im here finally pleading for help by anyone who has an update on this issue. so please post if you can.
Thanks

Turns out it just didn't like the zip files created with AlZip (my zip program)... I downloaded WinRar and used that to create the zip files and it went through fine from what i can tell.

Hi. A mostly fantastic guide but i'm having trouble with the drivers section. Having found USB medium that the xbox recognizes, I have been unable to make Windows 'update' the drivers so as to make it run as an action replay. On selecting the action 'ActionReplay Xbox' folder and the appropriately edited .ini file, the PC concludes that no software suitable for my device is available. What can I do? Having tried this with two cameras and a memory stick, i doubt it's the usb stuff here, but some more sinister apparatus within windows to be overcome.

I had a similar problem today tbh and i over came it by changing the xxx and yyy values in both .ini files in the xbox action replay folder one in driver folder and one in the main folder. Had a problem with transfering the zips threw the action replay proggy, so ftp'd to modded xbox and dumped from that to my memoey stick.
Hope this helps

I am having the same problem so many others have written about here.
I have a kingston 32mb which is on the list of compatible devices. the Xbox formats it OK, and I manage to install it as an AR device, it does show on the device manager as an AR device.
The problem is when I try to run AR, it does not recognize my usb stick. The big AR circle will blink to green for a second and then would turn black again. i can't drag and drop any saves in the left side as it doesnt recognize the usb stick. And yes - I can see it as an AR device in the device manager, and I tried at least 3 different versions of the AR software including the current one from their website.
Did anyone manage to solve this problem? Is there a way to do it somehow without AR? (and no, I dont mean buy AR or buy a modchip).
Help is welcome.

May 9 2006, 09:21 AM
Finally - managed to solve my problem.
Action Replay does not recognize all usb devices that the xbox does. I have a and the action replay would just not recognize it (when you plug it in the usb the big grey circle in the top of the screen does not turn green - that's how you know it's working).
I tried every single version of AR existing on earth, including hacked ones, mega-x-key etc..
and yes - I am sure i've modified the drivers correctly as the device manager would show an action-replay device and not a usb drive.
The solution - burn yourself a live cd of xebian, transfer the files that way (and I recommend softmod installer deluxe as it has all the files in a savegame format - simple copy to the usb device).
some links to this method:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=348096http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Xebian_HOWTOIf you're xbox is recognizing your usb key but AR does not - just use this method instead.

I have exactly the same problem, and I also resorted to the Xebian sollution, using the same links you posted here. I have one big problem though: I can't boot Xebian with the 2.4 kernel on my PC. If I type '24' at the bootup screen, It starts up, decompiles the kernel, and then reboots the computer. Do you have a link to the version of Xebian you used, Arielgr?

Problem solved. It seems my laptop didn't want to boot the 2.4 kernel. My PC does boot it.

I'm having a big problem. I've got a Lexar Secure Jump Drive, 256MB. I put it into the Xbox and it formatted it. Worked great. Then, I put it in the computer and tried to install the driver. However, whenever I do, I don't have the option of installing the Action Replay driver. I have no idea why. I've reinstalled AR many times, and used all different versions, old and new. You sure when your about to update the driver, you have selected the usb storage device from the other devices/usb list,r ather than storage where hard drives and stuff are listed? I noticed if you try and change the driver for it in the storage list, it wont work. (Win XP)
