It has long filenames in it, it wont copy to the hard drive, how can i get this whole thing to the hard drive? Do i have to rename every single file somehow that is over 42 characters? It is called the Big Ass Emulator Disk.

if the file names are bigger than 42 characters then yes you have to rename them all. But if the disk was made for the xbox then why did they put ones on that were bigger than 42 characters

I think that is designed to run from the DVD.

Did you figure this out?
I found the same thing and am having the exact same problem...
Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated. I don't have a DVD burner and would prefer to upload these all to the xbox (without having to manually change a million filenames...)

awal is correct. 42 character limit for stuff on the hard drive. The limit is 255 on DVD.
Further, these are all legal characters:
| CODE |
| ! # $ % & ' ( ) - . @ [ ] ^ _ ` { } ~ |
and these are illegal characters:
| CODE |
| < > = ? :; " * + , / \ | |
I vaguely remember an app in the Tools section that did file renaming before uploading. I could be wrong, but it doesn't hurt to look.

because the file renaming system for dvd's and the file renaming system for the hdd was completely different so like johnhandy said, the limit is 255 on dvds.
games that have this problem usually have game specific patches, or you could just use the .acl feature (it fixes filenames doesnt it?) for dvd2xbox
