Ok, I looked through the Tutorial and didn't see this topic. If I missed it, apologies.

Aside from the fact that I need to chip my xbox so I can read American DVDs and games, what about voltage? Is there a switch on the power supply like on PCs for 240V vs 120V? I didn't see one on the back; is it just inside (I haven't cracked the thing open yet)?

Cheers biggrin.gif

You can always buy one of them voltage converters from DickSmith or Tandy Electronics, it converts 220V to 110V or vice versa. I'm not sure if you can just swap the PSU from the australian xbox with a usa PSU.

If I just used an external converter, would that work? The input on my xbox specifically says 220-240V 1.2A 50Hz. So if the input is 110V instead of the engineered-for 220V wouldn't that fry the PSU or something?

My concept of electrical theory is really weak. Sorry! smile.gif

With the converter you should be fine. Once you plug the converter in a 110v socket it will convert the voltage to 220V for your xbox.

I remember with my PS1, it came from USA and I had this old power converter. It was quite heavy for a small thing (such a small unit). And I use to drag it around with me where ever I went.

EDIT: Oh I forgot, don't buy the converter here (in Australia). you might as well buy one when you get there. Because I think that DickSmith and Tandy Electronics sell converters 220V to 110V only (not sure but you can always ring them and ask).

Yeah good advice on the transformer. I did some web searching (probably should have done this before I posted smile.gif ) and found that you can buy PSUs for the xbox that will switch 110/220, but I can't find anything that says that the OEM one also switches.

Yeah I wish I could help but good luck!
