For purists only...
If you set your resolution to 720x480 or 720x576 and use a custom screen size of 907x622 you're pretty close to the real thing. No scaling will occur and no need to use billinear filtering.
I found this screen setup with the help of Dpaint. Filled the screen with a dot pattern and looked for scaling artfefacts or moirés.
907x622 sounds a bit odd...but it seems to work just perfectly.

Hello here,
nice work, I was a damn ST owner and now I'm trying to upgrade my Amiga culture on WinUAEx

Is the USB supposed to be supported? Because it doesn't work here with WinUAEx v9. (And in WinstonX either by the way)
Thanks!

My god this works beautifully and this has been a problem for me for a while.Xport has done such a great job bringing this to xbox but if there was one thing i like , it's super clear pixels - point filtering is super clear and this practically perfect positioning makes things both accurate in representing pixels and keeping them crystal.
Cheers for this super tip

Actually it now appears that a the perfect numbers are 908 , 624.Of course not all games are going to gain from this as the screen ends up being too big for some but it works very well for most.Try this on workbench 3.1 and alternate beetween point and bilinear to see how nice things can look.

I did mention this earlier but thought I probably should do it again.. so here goes.
There's a nasty bug in the current WinUAEX regarding harddrives that's really annoying.
If I boot Workbench from a hdf file or any other bootable hdf for that matter WinUAEX still detect a disk in drive DF0 as DF0:??? even when no disk is inserted.
That's not supposed happen and it affects some WHD installs such as Jaguar XJ220 and Agony.
It's impossible to save progress in Jaguar and Agony refuses to save highscores.

I found a way around this. Create some blank dd disks from the menu and make sure these are in the drives before you start the hdd. Only works for the first three drives though. Do not use the same image for multiple drives though. Must be a different image for each drive. This way you can boot into workbench and have access to 3 floppy drives.

That's not what I meant.
When I boot a hdf file with no disk in df0, df1 etc. it still detects a corrupted disk in drive df0.
Some whd installs rely on 'redirected' disks in the hdf as savedisk and apparently WinUAEX gets confused and only see the disk in df0.

Hi,
Great emu!
Just one thing... I seem to have a problem of both controllers controlling the same character on two player games like alienbreed2. So both joypads would move player one and doesnt do anything to player two, if I press the Y button, itll trigger something (like firing a gun) on player 2 but not 1 like the joypad. Weird!
Do I need to set something in the emu's settings?
Thanks

There is also a small bug I have noticed on the latest release of WinUAEx. When I go into the option screen to adjust the analogue stick sensitivity it let's me change it, but it doesn't save the settings, it just keeps going back to 1 every time I exit the menu.

It's really annoying if you have the volume set to the right stick as the sound keeps disappearing by itself, so I have to unmap it from the controller. I have also noticed this version crashes a lot more than other older versions, like when you reload a save state etc, it's really buggy in this regard.
I hope you have the time to someday look at it XPort, this and Vice64x's sound problems.

If you are considering revisiting WinUAEX would it be possible to see if you can fix the border emulation problems?
I am aware of the gap between the WinUAEX and WinUAE codebases (mainly because as the emulation has improved the CPU overhead has increased exponentially)
The border problems have been fixed for a long time and I am sure that Toni Willen would be willing to help point out the fixes you'd need to lift.

I've used WinUAEX a hell of a lot up until now, running all of my old Amiga games with 908x624 res on a nice 50Hz CRT. And I have always been very impressed

Trouble is, I've just bought a new TV, an HDTV. I've used the Enigma switcher to change to NTSC and now all my DVDs, XBMC and various emulators are running in 720p and I'm very happy with the results.
The only trouble is, most Amiga games were designed with PAL in mind. With my Xbox set to NTSC it means that 50Hz mode has now gone out of the window.
I've noticed in one of the posts in this thread that it says 908×624 looks absolutely fine in both 720x576 and 720 x 480.
I've never run an Amiga in NTSC for obvious reasons but how can 908x624 look ok on BOTH 576 and 480?
Surely games like project-x, which use a bucket load of overscan, will look compressed vertically?
Or will WinUAEX continue to output in PAL resolution (I know PAL itself doesn't define the resolution but you know what I mean) but at 60Hz?
I figure that games that had an load of empty black space at the top/bottom (to allow easy use/conversion on NTSC amigas) will now fill the whole screen?
I'm basically looking to get the best possible picture here with no tearing or 'shimmering' where certain areas of pixels are wider than the rest. I understand this will have to be 60Hz but I'm still not too sure as to what my options are regarding picture size/resolution.
Bear in mind I've not had the chance to actually test this out yet as my bridge has died so I can't ftp stuff across at the moment.
Oh and good to see some EAB regulars on here btw, hi alexh

Another small problem I have noticed is that you cannot use save states when playing a CD32 game, is this a problem with the original WinUAE? (I'm sorry I don't run it on my PC so I have no way of telling) or rather a problem exclusive to the Xbox port?

Black screen when running .adf games with winuaex v16.
Whenever i try and run supercars 2 or any other game I get a black screen similar to what Godflesh was getting. I can hear the music just not see any video. When i click right thumbstick I can see a screenshot in the top right hand corner of what i should see but get a black screen when i return to the game.
I have tried various hardware filter settings and leave software filter settings to none.
any help would be much appreciated. I have searched for similar problems and found a thread saying something about 2xsimple filter being the cause, this is a software filter right?

I'm not sure. First there would have to be an advantage to doing so. Second I need to talk to x-port about these memory issues that he had. Like what they were specifically.
I'd like to add support for .mod music and movie previews. I have an idea (similar to what pcsxbox does).

Hey MadMab!
One thing I did notice:
- I have a bunch of games in HDF files.
- These HDF were built by a friend with a unregistered version of WHDF (something like that.)
- Everytime I open a game, I get a HDF Workbench screen saying "this is unregistered blá blá blá".
- But the games works perfeclty fine! The only annoying thing is this long delay every time I open a game...
So I had one idea... I went from game to game making a save state right after all HDF stuff, loadings
and intros, and set the emulator to load the last save state automatically on entering a game. Worked perfectly!!!
But here comes the strange thing... When I enter a game with automatic last-save-state loading, the name
of the HDF disk in DF0 becames corrupted. Gibberish letters... But the game is still working fine!
This happens in the IN-GAME menu.
DISK 1: @IUEWOU)$#(*$#)SIDSO instead of the name of the game
I don't know if it is a bug or what...
Try it and see by yourself!
Cheers,
Cospefogo.

Bug verified on WinUAEX.
This is how it happens.
Pick a HDF game and open it.
Watch the "workbench scrren thing" and all the loadings process.
When you finally reach the game main screen, do a SAVE STATE and exit the game.
Next, go to the emulator settings and turn ON the feature "Auto load most recent save state".
Enter on the very same game, and ta---dá, you will be right on the game screen, skipping all the boring loadings.
BUT - now press the ingame menu and check what is inserted in the disk drive 1 of the emulador.
Instead of being the "game name.hdf" you will have some broken text, some gibberish.
However it is important to note that this happens only when you use the AUTO LOAD.
If you enter in the game and load the STATE manually, no problem happen.
Also, there are bad results with this bug when you are playing a multi disk game.
I don't know if I was lucky or what, but with single disk games the bug does not affect
anything, since the disk is already loaded (I think).
But anyway - at any moment when the emulator gets the need to load anything from
the disk it will not work. At least the WinUAEX does not crash, it just presents no results
on the screen, and to correct, you just need re-insert the correct disk, removing the gibberish'ed ones.
I hope my description was useful for you guys, to correct this in the future.
Regards,
Cospefogo.

I'm not sure but it is possible that winuaex is saving the savestates under the last loaded disk in a drive.
For example you load a game disk 1. Insert disk 2. Save the state. The state is most likely being saved under the name of disk 2.
Atarixlbox had this issue and I fixed that. I'll know more when I get around to looking at winuaex.
Thanks for the detailed information though!

But the strange thing is - doing the "load last saved state" manually we get absolutely no problems.

I'm not sure HDF and savestates is a WinUAEX specific issue.
Only in the more recent builds of WinUAE 1.4.x/1.5.x is savestates and harddrives (HDF or folders) stable.
And with WinUAEX being ported from old 0.8.27 source that could very well explain it.

Hi All,
I have a strange issue that i believe is BIOS related. I cloned my 250GB HD to another 250GB HD from my V1.6 Xbox. Both Hard drives will now work perfectly loading the Winuaex, and games work fine on both Hard drives using the V1.6 Xbox.
When i take the HD (either of them) and plug it into my V1.0 Xbox (1mb Hynix flashed TSOP) Winuaex will load up the main menu but will display the loading screen when trying to load a game and then go to an almost black screen and freeze the Xbox.
My Question is.. Has anyone else had luck using a V1.0 Xbox using a flashed TSOP and if so what BIOS are you using. (Or is there something else wrong ?). THere are also issues using Coin OPs too that work fine on the V1.6 but some games will not work on the V1.0
Thanks

Regarding the above statement, just a question that maybe Retroplay could answer :
Will combined Save-state in WHDLoad usage on WinuaeX result on errors ?
I am thinking about acquiring it soon but i would continue my savestates usage (i want to stay ON XBOX too).

You might get some unpredicted errors (guru's, access faults etc) when using save states on HD installed games.
I would only use save states on adf or CD32 games.
