What's New:

- Support for 2 mice

- Can assign any mouse/joystick to either L/R analog stick

- Settings are now saved when you launch real CDs

- Will switch to PAL50/PAL60 mode for PAL users depending on if you have

- Upload/Download configurations to/from xport.xbox-scene.com via GUI

==============================
Upload/Download Configurations
==============================

This is a new GUI feature that allows you to share your configuration files with
the rest of the world.

At the time of this version, there are only a few configuration files available
on the website. Once you have a game tweaked and working well, please take a few
moments to upload the configuration. This is as simple as selecting the "Upload"
option on the Game Configuration menu. Downloading a configuration can be
accomplished in very much the same manner by selecting the "Download" option.

When uploading a configuration please use a name that is as descriptive as possible.
For example, if the version you are using is AGA, please note it. If the version
you are using is cracked by a specific group, please note that as well.

Thanks for the update.

A minor problem though. When I try change software filter by pressing right thumb -> video settings -> software filter (or whatever it is =)) and then press B a few times to return to the game, I still have the settings menu on my screen. I can control the game, but there is no video. When changing back to no filter it runs fine again. Something similar happends in dosxbox, although not exactly the same. I don't see the settings menu, but the screen gets all messed up. I admit that I have a very few games to test though (giana sisters on winuaex and skyroads on dosxbox to be exakt =)).

I tried changing the filters in pcsxbox too, but I didn't have any trouble there (only tried raiden project and SOTN though).

Thanks a lot for the update XPort. love.gif

I believe the problem you're having there with the software filters not working is because they don't exist. XPort had to remove them due to the memory restrictions I think.

kvajnto
Oh. Okay. That explains quite a bit =)

Thanks for the update.

It would be really nice to see the bug fixed in the CD32 emulation, where the screen stays black and all you can hear is the music.

where Exactly is this feature "Upload/Download configurations to/from xport.xbox-scene.com via GUI" I cant seem to find it anywhere sad.gif.

Oh yeah nice work wink.gif

I rarely post and usually stay on-topic and concise. Tonight however, I'm gonna ramble. I want to thank you guys, whoever ported WinUAE to the Xbox. I'll thank the guys who did the original WinUAE somtime when I go to their site. I haven't even installed it yet but I just know how jazzed I'm gonna be when I do. See I just got finished installing Slayer's 2.6 auto-intaller and lots of Xbox games. Slayer's project is just phenomenal. So are all the apps included. EvoltionX? Avalaunch? Awesome. Other tools like SimpleXISO too. Just awesome.

Then I got to MAMEoX. Whoa. Holy Cow. Nearly the entire history of gaming at my fingertips -- like being able to play with all the exhibits at the Smithsonian Institution. Then I got to NeoGenesis. More of the same. Hard to believe the artistry that went in to creating these packages. I'm just guessing WinUAEX is gonna be the same and it'll be really nice for me. I can't wait to see the Amiga games from Psygnosis that I haven't seen in 10 years.

I was an officer in the USAF in 1990 when I got my first personal computer. It was the era of 386s (just prior to the introducition of the 486) and I had something most people had never heard of: An Amiga 3000. It came with a 32-bit operating system, pre-emptive mulitasking, plug and play (MS hadn't coined that term yet though), and an on board bus-mastering SCSI controller. It had a logical, fast GUI with a quick and powerful command line interface and a version of REXX for inter-process communication. My collection of goodies included paint, 3-D modeling, image capture, animation overlaying live video, and music composition software ... at home ... on a lieutenant's pay. This was not something you could do in the i386 world at the time.

Then I'd get up in the morning and go to work. Windows 3.1. I think brain-dead is the right word. Unfortunately, the engineers that created the Amiga hardware and OS (Google for Jay Miner, the Amiga's inventor if you're interested), had been acquired by a brain-dead company. Commodore Business Machines, in decline from their Commodore 64 and 128 days, was at the mercy of two money-grubbing suits (I think their names were Irving Gould and Mehdi Ali), totally lacking tech-savy, who put all their effort into building crappy Wintel machines that drove the company to bankruptcy. They hauled cash out of the company at a rate far exceeding that of Apple's top execs (who ran a much bigger company) putting almost nothing into advertising for the Amiga.

Enough rambling. My point is this. I can't believe everyone doesn't have a modded Xbox. I guess it's a good thing because there might be a much stronger attempt to prevent people running unsigned code if more people knew about its capabilities. It's the nature of digital technology to give us the entire history of gaming on one box and it's a new thing. Humans often have a hard time with change. Be ready for further assaults on your freedom to run code of your choice on machines of your choice in the coming years. The cure for 1984 is 1776. I wish I made that up but I saw it on Slashdot. Thanks again for WinUAEX.

I'm having a configuration issue. I cannot push any buttons or anything (only analog stick works in my emu)

Edit : n/m I found the problem (Config not stored in Udata Tdata)

I would add this to the FAQ.

I'm having a little trouble with WinUAEX and maybe you guys can help.

I'm using roms that are on DVD(pretty much every amiga game split between about 4-5 DVDs)anyway they are in folders (e.g A,B,C...you get the idea). The actual emulator is on the Xbox.Well about half of the games are fine and run perfectly but some just dont run and just come up the startup screen(hand with disk or disk inserting), I have tried running these from my comp using uaex and fellow and they run fine. Its whole letters like all the N's (gutted I cant play newzealand story mad.gif ).

So any ideas what I can do to fix this? Can you tell me where WinUAEX files go so I can wipe them ALL and start again?

Cheers

kimota2004
I think the problem you are having is because you are breaking the file limit for the Xbox. It can only store a certain amount of games in a folder 2500 or something, so the only way would be to limit the amont of games per folder. I may be wrong, but at least I suggested something wink.gif

edit: Also note that some characters (eg. , # + [] ) arn't compatible with the xbox's file system so if any of your games have these in their titles they wont run. That it definetly the case for running games of the hardrive, im unsure what the situation is with playing games from DVD, but I assume it's the same.

Cool thanks I 'll split them up a bit more an see if that helps.

I donīt get the emulator towork with any game at all. It hangs up when on the loading screen after pressing B when Iīm finished with my configuration. It hangs up even if theres no disks loaded. What could be wrong? Please help
fil
one small problem with flicker filter

the flicker filter level changes when switching between pal50 and pal60

if you look closely level 1 on flicker filter on pal50 equals about level 2 on pal60

level 0 is too much on pal50, but just right on pal60

i like to have my setting on level 1 in pal50, but when running in pal60 its not quite enough and i have to keep switching to level 0

it's probably common on other emulators, but they generally run in 60hz all the time, so doesnt matter

winuae most games are best in 50hz but some games are better in 60hz, so thats where the issue comes in

this would be great if it could be addressed
chrisbati
Hi,

Still no news about CAPS support for XBOX ?
It seems It'll be very helpfully to have It and It seems that the new promising amiga emulator for Dreamcast (UAE4all) maybe will have it !

Thanks
Godflesh
Why does my screen always stay black when I run a game now?? I can hear the sound etc...but can't see anything.

never had any problems with previous versions...
Tanas
Godflesh, is that only with certain CD32 games or all games?
Godflesh
I don't play CD32 games ...just ADF's and this happens with all the games.

what am I doing wrong?

I have a feature request for the Next version, more default amiga configurations. If you visit http://www.back2roots.org/Docs/Howtos/Configs/ you'll see they have six or so nicely laid out configuration files for Winuae, they also have a very nice database of what configuration to use for what game. If anyone doesn't want to visit that website the configurations are basically as follows:

ECS 13:
Kickstart: 1.3
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: Full ECS
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 8MB
Slowmem Size: 1024KB

ECS 13c:
Kickstart: 1.3
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: Full ECS
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 0MB
Slowmem Size: 0KB

ECS 20:
Kickstart: 2.0
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: Full ECS
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 8MB
Slowmem Size: 1024KB

ECS 30:
Kickstart: 3.0
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: Full ECS
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 8MB
Slowmem Size: 1024KB

ECS 31:
Kickstart: 3.1
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: Full ECS
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 8MB
Slowmem Size: 1024KB

AGA 30:
Kickstart: 3.0
CPU: 68EC020
Video Chipset: AGA
Chipmem Size: 2MB
Fastmem Size: 8MB
Slowmem Size: 1024KB

OCS 12:
Kickstart: 1.2
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: OCS
Chipmem Size: 512KB
Fastmem Size: 0MB
Slowmem Size: 512KB

OCS 13:
Kickstart: 1.3
CPU: 68000
Video Chipset: OCS
Chipmem Size: 512KB
Fastmem Size: 0MB
Slowmem Size: 512KB

I realize a lot of these configurations are identical aside form the kickstart rom, And I know right now there is a very nice option to upload/download configuration files, however if these configs were to be implemented, i'd be willing to go through the 2,000 or so games on back to the roots and make a database of the recommended configuration for a specific game. Then when you put a game in, it will look at that list and load the appropriate config file for you.

Hello,

I am having problems with USB mouse in WinUAEX. I have tried various configurations and gameports and it refuses to work. LAnalog and RAnalog works but not USB.
The mouse is working fine in UAEX and Linux but not in WinUAEX.
Could I have overlooked something or is it something else?

Oh, yeah, the mouse is a Logitech MX300.
Danjuro
I had the same trouble here, exact same mouse. Reverting to v7 fixed it, so I advise you do so. Might be related to the new mouse detection thingies introduced in v8.

Also about the black screen with no sound mentionned above, it happened to me with my workbench 1.3 image : turned out for some reason the screen was shrunk and had to be displayed very large. Just wiggle around a lot in the set screen size/position setting and you should be back to normal. Since screen settings are saved for each disk image, you might as well just trash all your config files and redo them wink.gif

Thanks alot for WinUAEX Xport
I still hope that we more serious Amiga users get BSDsocket.library support one day wink.gif (for all the people who dont know what that is - its basically support of getting online with the emulator under Amiga OS, so you can use IRC, FTP-Servers ect etc...)

that can happen if video filtering is on simple2x or one of the other ones, check that the video filters are off

I am trying to get a USB mouse to work in WinUAEx, although it refuses to do so... I'm using version 8 as other here are, and its behaving exactly like what others in this thread describes. I've tried various mice, all from MS though... but none work.

Can also add that they work very well in other emulators and linux, not in WinUAEx though.

Im going to try and test the previous version of the emu to see if that fixes it for me too... but my question is, is this something that is going to get fixed? A lot of games needs mice on the Amiga to really work... some of my favorites such as "Hired Guns", even needs two (two players) to get the full enjoyment.

Thanks for a great emulator, hope this issue can be resolved.

A new update of WinUEAX should be fine, as in the meantime WinUAE (the PC counterpart) is already updated with new options; like the new USB competition Pro joystick fropm Speedlink and other things. wink.gif

When is WinUEAX V9 launched?

Is it possible to map Amiga keys to the xbox controller, i can get the keyboard to appear on screen. But some games like Pinball Dreams (great game) can only be played with keys 'shift keys' can i some how map these to the xbox controller.

I am having problems setting up the joypads correctly for two player games. Both pads control the same player on Sensible World of Soccer. I have tried changing settings such as joystick a to joystick b and it doesnt seem to make a difference

Any help you can give is appreciated.

QUOTE
Q: What about 4 joystick support?
A: To my knowledge, WinUAE (and Amigas in general) only had 2 joystick ports. If you are referring to support for all 4 XBox joypad ports, then that functionality already exists.

The amiga could have had up to 4 Joysticks.
There is an amiga parallel port adapter for 2 additional joystick ports. Games like Dyna Blaster support them. WinUAE supports it as well.
You can use this adapter even on pc for two amiga/c64 joysticks.
SilentBob1638
Is there any 'Renamer Tool' to make my diskfilenames xbox filesystem compliant? Most filenames based on the TOSEC naming convention are way to long for the xbox. Does XPort support ISO9660:1999 CDs/DVDs for long filenames or is it possible to mount such iso files from HDD?
SilentBob1638
Seems that ISO9660:1999 DVDs/CDs work. But names aren't comfortable to read due to limited visible chars at once. Listing should be placed on full horizontal screen size with smaller font size with at least 128 chars visible at once. There are registered names in tosec database that go beyond 140 chars or more.
SilentBob1638
Hmm.. after a second look ISO9660:1999 doesn't work. Names seem ok but xport doesn't load them. So UDF (255 chars) should be our friend. Nero is only capable to burn 127 chars with UDF and craxtion4 produces buggy images with very long filenames. Last man standing is the ms original and that one worked so far. At least an image with a 140 chars filename was created and could be successfully unpacked with craxtion. Let's see if it loads in xport...

Can anyone tell me why I can't save to a virtual blank disk?

I am wanting to move my SWOS save to another Amiga emulator (mainly PSP UAE) but I can not get WINUAEX to save onto my virtual blank diak, I get a DISK ERROR every time.

I can't find any controls to set the disk drive to WRITE PROTECT ON/OFF. Could this be the issue?

Are the save states in WINUAEX compatible with ant other version of UAE? If so I could get one of those to open my save state and then save the game.

Thanks
vannillabear
hi,

thanks for the great port of one of my favourite systems! beerchug.gif

quick question though, i've changed the settings in winuaex so that all the paths point to its own folder (screenshots, saves, roms etc) keeping it neat and tidy, problem is that although the saves path is set for within its folder it still creates the winuaex.ini file within a saves folder in the root of the drive.

if i move or delete this i obviously loose the settings, so id rather keep it wink.gif what i'm trying to find out is, can i alter a config file or something similar so that winuaex looks in a different folder for this file on launch (like how some emulators need the cfg files edited to point them to the right rom path etc)? allowing me to copy the settings within its directory and point to that, and in turn stopping it creating loads of unneeded folders in the root of my drive.

hope that makes sense unsure.gif

thanks in advance.

ps. i searched and searched and couldnt come up with anything, if theres a post already out their i'd appreciate a point in the right direction. thanks.
vannillabear
tried moving the winuaex.ini to the same folder as the default.xbe and deleting the saves folder it created in the root of the drive, it now loads and remembers the settings (using the winuaex.ini in the same folder as the xbe) but it still creates a save folder in the root with a mirror copy of the winuaex.ini file.

any ideas?

ps. after testing it with other emulators (that i think are xport projects), they seem to do the same thing. i can stop them creating the other folders (screenshots etc) but not the saves...it always wants to make that in the root huh.gif
vannillabear
Hi,

Sorry for the triple post, huh.gif after much searching and trying many different search arguments I found posts explaining that all the xport projects do this..
QUOTE
Q: Why can't I get rid of the E:\SAVES\<EMULATOR> directory and the *.INI files there?

A: Let's say that you want to save all of your INI files and save files, etc, to a
new directory called F:\FOO. How is the emulator supposed to know that you want
to save everything in F:\FOO? It has to read that directory from an INI file. Where is it
supposed to look for that INI file? There has to be a standard, static place
that the emulator can look for the INI file. You're probably thinking to yourself,
"Why not read it in the same directory that the XBE is located?" Well, what about the
people who want to burn the emulator to a disc and play it like that? Yes, you can
still read the INI file from the disc, but what about when they want to make configuration
changes? Where should those configuration changes be saved? It obviously cannot be
written back to the D drive since that is a disc and cannot be written to by the XBox.
This is why the emulators are saving the INI data to the standard directory of
E:\SAVES\EMULATORNAME.

...but I have also seen posts about people editing the xbe using a hex editor to change this...does anyone have any pointers on how to do this?
In the end i guess it doesnt matter though, I just prefer to keep my E drive clean and store all my stuff on the F drive. unsure.gif

hey, i have a question regarding controller configuration..

i can't configure the controller so i'll be able to play games w/ the Lstick instead of the Dpad, i change the but the emu doesn't seem to identify it and i can only play w/ the Dpad..

anyone?

@XPort

Firstly thanks for everything you have done. I know that thousands of Commodore Amiga fans down here in Australia all love your awesome work!

I have been running WinUAE 1.1 (now 1.1.1) for over a month now without any issues and am wondering how much effort would be involved in dropping a new release for the Xbox?

Hi XPort !

I have seen a new Winuae is out WinUAE 1.2 (20.02.2006) .

When you update WINUAEX you have also a new Version.

I don't know what's changed in the PC builds since the last Xbox version.

But for heaven's sake don't update anything that's going to decrease performance.

I think I should wait for Xport's announcement about new WinUAEX release, but... I'd also like to say that Competition Pro USB support under some emulators (Amiga, C64, Atari...) would be absolutely wonderful.

I cannot fire WinUAEx up at the moment to take a look, but was there a "lores" option?

I've got a desktop PC which is a pretty lame 733 P3 and the new WinUAE 1.2 for XP have been running quite poorly, until I set a resolution of 360x288 with LoRes, no centering, no doubling, etc.

Now it works great. I dont know if the settings can be moved over to WinUAEx
