the things i know now about it is: tompson drives..thats pretty much it. would i want any particular version over the other or are the changes made are really not that much greater than each other.

thanks for reading biggrin.gif

V1.6 are not SATA and come with a Philips or a Samsung...the difference is v1.0 daughterboard, v1.1 no daughterboard, v1.2 I think was change in psu, v1.3 was change d0 point (though this may have happened on the v1.2, whereas I really don't know the difference in v1.2 and v1.3), v1.4 switched video chips, v1.5 took out ground or power or something from the lpc (very rare to find though), v1.6 changed the viedeo chips again and butchered the lpc's (in a nutshell).

Huh??

Serial ATA hard drives are not used in any xbox versions, and the DVD drive can be any brand in any version 1.0-1.6

In terms of modding, the only real difference is that 1.5/1.6 consoles need a few extra wires to rebuild the LPC, otherwise everything is pretty much the same.

You mean v1.4/1.5, as 1.6 switched the video chip. Also, there have been less Thommy's floating around in the v1.6's.

alright i read that somewhere in the hardware forum so i just assumed

so in a sense of opinion, would you rather get a 1.4 vs a 1.0 or something along that line?

From what I understand:
-v1.0s and v1.1s have a 1MB TSOP. They are also more likely to if not always have a 10GB Western Digital HD.

-v1.2, v1.3, v1.4, and v1.5 have a 256k TSOP and more likely if not always have an 8GB Seagate HD. v1.5 also has a somewhat different LPC that requires a few additional wire for modchips.

-v1.6 should also have the 8GB Seagate but from what I understand, no TSOP, or at least no way to flash the TSOP. v1.6 needs a special bios and extra wiring for modchips.

The three DVD drives are Samsung, Phillips and Thompson. I believe it is pretty much random what drive you get. Samsung are widely considered the best because they read the widest range of media.

Get a v1.1 or v1.0 if you can. They are more likely to have the 10GB HD and you can install a switch and flash half the TSOP giving you the ability to still go on live with a retail bios. Flashing the TSOP on a v1.0 or v1.1 has the same functionality as a modchip for a fraction of the price.
