I got a question..my dvd-r only came with a 40-conductor ide cable. But I read that 40-conductor cable can only do 3-4mb/sec? If i'm planning to burn at 4x, isnt 3-4mb/sec to slow? I was affaid to use a 80-conductor cable cuz I heard it made some peoples cd-rw/dvd-rw drives go insane.

It depends on the drive

I use an 80 with my 2.4x DVD+R drive. It works great.
