I have been told that eepromagic will work for a 1.6 xbox, I havent looked into or tested this.

IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE RECENT
BANS ARE LINKED TO HDD SERIALS AND THAT
ANY EEPROM SWITCH MUST BE COUPLED WITH
A NEW HDD

**WARNING**

This will work with any version, but pre 1.6 should use configmagic and a pre 1.6 eeprom.

I take no resposibility if you xbox becomes a very expensive paperweight. A modchip with a backed up eeprom is reccomended.

This is nothing more than a compilation of information found in various places, combined with very little that i had to figure out myself. I am not the first person to succesfully do this, but i believe that I am the 5th published person who has, so I know that this works. Please, before beginning, read all the way through to gain a full understanding of the procedures.

edit:several people have reported that this tutorial will work after it was posted. THanks for all your help goes to the guinea pigs out there who risked a $150 investment, often more, all based on my word. You are in our hearts and minds.

If done correctly, this should take 30mins, including downloading time.

To begin:
Tools you will need:

• Crossover cat-5 Cable
  (cant do this through a router, at least I couldnt find a way, because ltools sets a static ip to 192.168.0.3)
• An xbox app w/ ftp capabilities...ltools provided ftp wont work as it is read-only.
  (I will use evox for this tutorial, it is what I used.)
• Latest release of ltools, found in the usual places.
  (Check the x-s tuts for more info)
  edit:I just remembered how hard this was to find. YES, it is in the single usual place, but it is considered a standalone OS, if that helps.
• An unbanned 1.6 eeprom
  (.bin, 1 kbyte)
  edit:YES IT MUST BE A 1.6 EEPROM, NO AN OLD EEPROM WILL NOT WORK, EVEN IF RIPPED w/ LTOOLS
• Patience
  (corny, but true)

******NOT A STEP, BUT UNLOCK YOUR HDD FIRST! I WONT EXPLAIN HOW TO DO THIS HERE, BUT DO IT!

1.connect crossover cable to your computer's ethernet port, and change the settings on that connection manually to 192.168.0.1, leave the rest (except subnet) blank
(On a windows PC, right click the connection and choose properties. Select tcp/ip, and choose properties.)

2.boot up evox and connect via ftp. upload your .bin file, something easy to remember(eeprom.bin)

3.download ltools and upload the entire folder to your e drive, as it looks it should go. navigate to the default.xbe and make note of the directory you are in. make a link to it in your evox.ini file.

4.on your xbox, select your link to ltools, select run mini-linux, and your screen goes numb. you are blind. walk away.

5.back at your computer, connect to your xbox via telnet on 192.168.0.3. login as "root" with password "xbox"

6.type in the following:

1. If it's an NTSC R1 eeprom - how do you flash it to a PAL R4?

2. After you've flashed, how do you turn the box back into an R4 PAL?

Awsome.. Few questions before i try this out..

1. i just copy ltools over, no install needed correct? And which version is the best for it, the 007, MA 1.75 or the 1.75 SC NTSC?
2. When you say edit evox.ini to add the path to ltools, is that for the launch menu?
3. Does it matter where you put the EEPROM on the xbox?
4. If the region is off thats edited after you run the command "xtool -w eeprom.bin" or before?

Other than that I think i understand everything else.. I might read it a few more times to make sure lol.. Good stuff though..

If I run an R4 PAL XBox temporarily as an R4 NTSC Xbox, will I be banned? MS would surely detect that I was running non-standard hardware, wouldn't they?

yes they would, but you dont have to... Let me ask what mod chip you have? You can change a ntssc into a pal box

I have a DuoX, and my XBox is a 1.6, which I bought in Australia - I assume making it Region 4. Our DVD's are R4, anyway. So, it's a 1.6 PAL R4 Xbox - and the eeprom I bought from AW is a 1.6 R1 NTSC.

Any solutions?

I'm getting desperate, guys! Does ANYONE know how to change an NTSC eeprom to PAL on a 1.6? I was emailing AW this morning, and he says that I'll not be banned with an R4 NTSC box - but that i'll only be able to play NTSC discs, which totally ruins the point of the exercise.

THere's got to be some Australians out there who've done this. Anyone?

im sure taht there is... but im working on figuring it out now, please be patient, I have alot on my mind, and getting this figured out for you is not at the top of my list. Try asking ldots if there is a command in ltools which lets you do it...I know that XOS2 will do it, so consider maybe booting your xbxo w/ a friend's xenium in, editing eeprom, and switching back?

I am new to posting on these forums since I'm not really one to go into new territory, but thank you to all that have helped me without even knowing it. That being said, I was accidentally banned from XBL the other night and am trying to change my eeprom to the new one that I just got. I have a 1.6 box, and I'm probably doing something stupid, but I just can't get the telnet part to work. My PC normally connects to the net through a router, as does my xbox, but in your tutorial you say that I have to connect the xbox's net cable directly to my PC? This is the part that is screwing me up, if i disconnect my PC from the router, the connection comes up as the cable being unplugged, therefore regardless of what I make the ip on my computer, it will not use the connection. The only way that I was able to ftp to the xbox from my computer was to connect both back to the router like before, I'm using avalaunch on my xbox, and I know what it's ip addy is. Telnet will not work if they are both plugged into the router either, since I think mini-linux's static ip is not routing through the router to the xbox, but even if I use the same ip in telnet that works for ftp, when mini-linux is running neither works anymore. Sorry for rambling on, last thing, I'm also not getting a blank screen when mini-linux runs, there is some writing at the top at first, then the screen goes to screwed up colors with bands of green.

Well, I was able to figure out my own problem, and perhaps I'm the first to change an eeprom for a 1.6 xbox while still using a router? Anyway, apparently my whole problem was in my net config, I used my web browser to access my router, and I set it up so that my PC and my xbox were plugged into the router and were using the same IP's as are in the tutorial. As soon as I did this it worked like a charm and I am now back on XBL, thanks lithite for the tutorial and angerwound for the eeprom!

Its crazy, guys... I came to the forums as a total noob just 47 posts ago, and I didnt klnow a thing. I wanted others to tell me how to do every step of the way, but as a 1.6 owner, I realized i was a pioneer, noone was really sure what was going on with me. It took me a while to figure out that I was getting problems noone else was and that I was going to need to be a self advocate. Im glad that I have helped people, and I hope that this guide helps noobs looking for simple answers in the future(though hopefully by then they will have cm next released and we wont have to deal w/ this crap.)

one last bump before i let this sink forever...sent shan a pm asking to put us in his tutorial pin, but havent gotten a reply...I think that most of the people who need this have gotten it. I hope so.

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for posting this and for going through this to help us. I'm actually getting started trying to unban an Xbox, but I'm not sure yet whether it's a 1.6 or a 1.0 Xbox. I think it's 1.0. So I'm trying to figure out what to do.

Thanks for a great tut. my question is with the xenium os can this process be as easy as ftp'ing the new eeprom file in and using the restore eeprom option? simple but would it work?

the eeprom on your xenium os is for pre 1.6, i think. or if not, it loads to the cip, not the hdd. Yes, you could try it. No, it wouldnt work.

ok, let me break it down for you.

telnet is just raw communication between computers. you need putty, or, more likely, based on your post, you are running windows, and can simply go to the command prompt and type

Some good news people their is a easy way to flash your 1.6 Use eepromagic its a beta found in the well known places all you do is put eeprom magic on your c drive use xbox explore a launch it with that it only takes 2 mins to do that way

I stand 100% behind the hdd serial theory, and therefore, this method is invalid. You must couple this with a new hdd.

lithite -- which method do you consider to require a new HDD? The method at the top of the thread, or the eeprommagic method recommended from sithmaster? I was about to try your method, but now I'm less confident.

all methods now require a hdd switch.

my method was for before the eepromagic release.

if you have a 1.6b, with a brown front panel cable, or if you just want to be safe, install with my method. you need a new hdd regardless.

Ok, I've read everything; I purchased the EEPROM from you; I followed your instructions to a T; how do I verify it worked other than loging in? I attempted to log in and I received the same "Modified" error. I have a 1.6 so configmagic is unavailable to me. Not being funny br1ck but your LAN and EEprom key are identical to mine, again both before and after I put a new epprom in.

I'm guessing there's a bug with the X3 ? Who did your chip install ?

I have just purchased a new eeprom, I am trying to make sense on what course of action to take next. I see your great description on how to change the eeprom, but I am reading mixed comments about changing hard drives too.

Do you have to change HD as well as Eeprom? or simply change the hard drive key?

FYI the Eeprom magic works fine on 1.6 boxes, did mine at weekend, got banned again though (didn't change hd or gamer tag).

From what I've read so far you should change your hard disk, however there is some theories that a low level format of your existing disk will work.

My next one I will be changing eeprom, hd and doing a low level format of the hd since it's an Xbox original disk.

Guess the choice is yours really.

I am pretty new to this while thing and I really do not want to mess things up. I have read your instructions on how to put the new eeprom on my xbox, but have a few questions if you do not mind...

I found ltools - do I install it on my PC and then place the files to my xbox, or do I unzip the folder and place the files to my xbox?

My pc currently has a ip address of 192.168.0.2 cos of my wirless router, do I need to hook this directly?

I have searched all over and I cannot seem to find how I lock/unlock my hard drive. I have a xbox 1.6 and also evolution x installed. I would appreciate your help.
