Full Version: Xbox Hdd Preparer, Does It Work?
I'll keep this short. Has anyone heard of "Xbox HDD Preparer"?Does it work? Should I use it? Please help! Sorry if it's in the wrong forum.

I heard of it on xboxhackz.com and I'm not sure what it's supposed to do. That's why I'm asking. That site has no info on it. And, I want to put in a new hard drive but I wanted to look around before I followed the tuts.
the easiest way to do it is to back up the eeprom from evox first, then ftp C and E out. once you've backed them up, boot to the slayers disk and format the new hard drive, and lock it if you want to use LIVE. then reboot and boot to slayers again, and ftp the backups of C and E back onto the xbox... then go from there
you dont NEED to prepare the xbox hard drive, as the data thats on it doesnt matter when it gets overwritten anyway

I have never had to prepare a hd. I've done alot of hd upgrades and I never had to prepare them.
I don't think that it's that kind of "prepare" that it means.
I think I'm just doing a lot of wishful thinking though.

It just zeros out the first 4096 bytes. Or the entire HD.
I had to use it, for some reason my drive would not be picked up in the XBOX.
But I went w/ HDD Prepar, and zeroed out the entire drive. And then it picked it up.
If your using a brand new drive, you probably won't have to use it. But if it has a lot of info and partition information etc. You might wanna at least zero out the 4096.
But, i guess its all up to you really.

I can only hope someone is reading this.
I got HDD Prepar for windows. IT is not able to zero out my HD. Obviously my HD is locked at this point. Is that why? Do I need to hotswap while I'm in windows?

zeroing a drive should not be needed. But if you guys want to do that then i wont stop you. it should not hurt any thing as its really just a form of format.
any way you will need your hard disk unlocked before you can do anything to it. But please before you hotswap and then zero it What are you trying to do exactly?
