is it bad if you use a resistor that can take way more than you are putting into it? like if your taking an educated guess on the one you need so you over shoot it just to be safe is that bad?

like if my circut only needed like 165 Ohms worth of resistor but i put like a 200 Ohm one on would the be bad?

i dont think so, you just overshot it a lil, i should think about a resistor.....

I take it your adding LEDs?

Ohms Law V = I x R (where V is voltage, I is current and R is resistance)

Now you can work out the exact resistance and therefor buy the right resistors!

But in answer to your question, you can put in a resistor with a higher value than needed but the LEDs wont be as bright. It's when you put in a resistor with a lower value it will be "bad", m'kay!

OHMS LAW, I haven't see that since VocTech in High School and that was 1...2...3...4...yrs ago... oh nevermind. Anyways I stumbled on this site tht has come in handy when needing to find the correct resistor for various projects.
