all pretty much said the same so far - this one was bullet pointed and easily replied to

| QUOTE |
1-In games/apps the pictures in the background are backwards.
|
...as per my post "First thing someone might wanna do is flip these icons over hehe."
| QUOTE |
2-It freezes on Emulators
|
make sure you have something to list - Dashboard.xbx contains the names of the folders and headings for your games/apps/emu/dashboards menus just like tHc did

| QUOTE |
3-Text in the the music soundtracks are black against a black canvis.
|
controlpanel.xip/default.xap - script it to a color you like or just find the color name and change it in the skin color file

| QUOTE |
4-If you press X in settings, it will hang for a second or two.
|
You're probably pressing L+R+X and that "hang" is you taking a screenshot
| QUOTE |
5-Sometimes, you can't move in the subments after you press "X". 6-You can't get in any of the submenus. 7-Rarely, you are able to get into the submenu that lets you change text, color, etc - but the submenu freezes.
|
...refer to answers to #2 and #4
| QUOTE |
-Annoying sounds when you enter Settings/Harddrive sometimes.
|
..one of 2 known bugs referred to in readme
Now the other issues I just don't get, quite simply the "XboxDashNext.xbx" (which CAN NOT be renamed btw) resides in the same path as the XboxDashNext.xbe (which CAN be renamed) and simply points it to the path of the app dir instead of the old school hex editing that used to be needed. I've tested it personally on 3 different boxes in at least 2 dozen paths up to about 5 levels deep (ie: E:\dashboards\MS\Custom\Xbox Dash Next\XDN Data ) and never had an issue. There were beta testers who had started with older bioses and had a booting issue with it. UPDATE. there's no excuse for having an ancient evox bios on your box anyways

X2 4981 and up and IND bios were all tested as working in private beta tests. Keep em coming ...

Same, not working.
Have 4981 Bios on 1.0 version xbox
I know that I have the settings right for XboxDashNext.xbx

Get black screen.
I missed up on the XboxDashNext.xbx once and it look me back to the dash.
can't figure this one out.
current settings:
XboxDashNext.xbx and XboxDashNext.xbe on C
app folder in F:/XboxDashNext
XboxDashNext.xbx says:
#
#
#
#

#
#
# Xbox Dash Next Config File
#
#
[Dashboard Settings]
Current Skin=MS Dash - Orange
Dashboard Data Path=F:\XboxDashNext
Have any ideas?

-The text overlaps other text in music
-When you hit x and pull up the "master menu", music seems fine, but if you go select menu's it works the first time, but if you get out and go back in, cant use it
-when you select menu's, and you scroll across the other options, it remains at menu's but with overlapping text of the other objects your selecting
-Also getting out of the master menu and going back in will kill your A button and you cant select anything except music.
-selecting system info locks buttons except for B which just takes you out of menu and have to hit it twice to get out.
-when selecting "menu" it just sticks at the "button" text and wont let you select anything
-cant get "user accounts", "settings", "skins", "explorer", or "system info" to work at all. Maybe you have to edit the dashboard xbx first? Dont know.
-Cant select "mode" in music panel
-Cant adjust volume but this is probably because i just dont know which button does it but ive selected everything i think
-EQ is broken (i think thats what it is?)
-When selecting hard drive, you can see a white box as the menu quickly comes at you
-As said emulators doesnt work if you have no emu's in the emulator folder, just hangs with loud noise (im gonna put some on to see if it works)
Hope im not being repetitive, I read through so shouldnt be. Love the direction this is going in and ive ran the ftp like a bastard and cant break it yet!

xboxdashnext.xbe and xbx on e: xboxdashnext dir on e: xbx path - Dashboard Data Path=E:\XboxDashNext not working
|
The way I've had it set up and running fine is...
I have a folder inside my dashboards, folder containing the xbe and xbx, named Xbox Dash Next
I then have XDN in a folder named Xbox Dash Next in the root of E:
xboxdashnext should look like :
[Dashboard Settings]
Current Skin=MS Dash - Blue
Dashboard Data Path=E:\Xbox Dash Next
If you noticed, the main folder of XDN is actually extracted as Xbox Dash Next
NOT XboxDashNext. So a straight ftp over probably wouldn't work.
Sorry about the simple slip up on the part of XDN.

----
discworld, did you set up the ftp exactly like you need it to be?
I, and a lot of other people have tested it out fine last night...
at first I didnt realize my gateway was different. Check yours out and see.

wireframe mode is deathly slow.
and i noticed that if you have the music (or whatever its called) menu up, and try to do wirefame, it only does it as long as you hold B, but if you go wireframe, then there, it stays wireframe

BIG BUG
this effects about %50 of XDN users so far
the dash doesnt load!
Im running x2_4983.06_512k.bin as my bios
official x2 bios, not edited
it loads evoxdash.xbe
then xboxdash.xbe
on my xbox
heres how I got mine to load.....
I have the older thc dashboard running as evoxdash.xbe
I put the folder "Xbox Dash Next" into my f:\ drive like so
f/Xbox Dash Next/
now I go into the dashboard dir
/E/Dashboards/
and create a dir called XDN like so
/E/Dashboards/XDN
I now put the files XboxDashNext.xbe and XboxDashNext.xbx into this dir like so
/E/Dashboards/XDN/XboxDashNext.xbx
/E/Dashboards/XDN/XboxDashNext.xbe
then in that dir rename the XboxDashNext.xbe file to default.xbe like so..
/E/Dashboards/XDN/defulat.xbe
then load up the old thc dash, and go to dashboards, and run the thc beta

Bugs that i have found so far are: The system info tab in settings is messed up (i think its not supposed to work but i posted it just to make sure), When i hit the X button the olny thing that works is the music selection other that the things wont even come up or get stuck, when i change the skin colors olny the tabs change colors, when i change the menu settings so games will be on top it doesnt work, you have to place the Data folder in the root of the F drive for it to work and rename the dash to Deafualt.xbe like "EvilTeddyBear" said. Other than that no problems (besides the usuall bugs). Also the FTP works perfect for me.

Folks -
As it appears that a good 75% or so of the people that have tried to install the new XDN have managed to get a black screen freeze, I have done some tinkering with this matter.
While doing so, and recalling some of the issues with the good-old THC, I was wondering if this issue is related to the M$ Dash version which resides on the user's machine.
A quick poll that I have done with some of the MIRC users have indicated that most of them had issues running THC as well (popping out that dreaded error 21).
Developers - might this be it?

Just reading anonyone's post and thinking he may have hit my nail on the head...running v1.0 Tsopped box with 4981.06 bios and 4980.06 kernel, and absolutely no joy. Tried running from boxplorer and it just hangs at black screen, ran from Xcommander and it reboots to Ux, ran from Ux and it just hangs at loading Xbox Dash Next...

Xbox 1.1 with 4983.06. The program worked great! The only bug was that when I would choose Programs, there would be this horrible screeching. Then if I went back to the main menu, and then back into programs, the screeching didn't come up. Happened every time, and choosing emulators froze on me, but that's prolly cause I don't have anyhting in that directory.

Oct 3 2004, 03:32 AM
holy exaggerations batman lol - we went from 50% above to now 75% - apparently it works for 4 people sitting in the north corner of their room with their xboxes facing south ;P
as the readme states there were some diff bios issues in testing. known compatable bioses...
X2 4981 and up, IND bios
...thats it, nothing was tested on any soft or hard or squishy exploit (hehe) - just chips and tsops with these bioses.
the majority of the 'bugs' listed in this page of the thread are scripting issues - nothing that is really a hard coded problem. Of course things don't work in the controlpanel - as the readme states this is nothing more than the xips from the tHc wip with some tweaks to use the new xbe. Nothing in this release is meant to simply be taken as is - this is a scriptable dash - and I just gave you a whole list of new scriptable things you can do - this release is for you people to test the new stuff and gimme feedback on how it does or doesn't work for you, not to say "not all the buttons in the control panel don't work". as for the user error factor, it's this simple... you have a folder, an xbe, and an xbx. put the folder wherever you want, lets say you choose E:\dashboards\XDN and you decide to change the folder name to XDN Data, you must edit the xbx in notepad so the path is now
E:\dashboards\XDN\XDN Data
that's it - put the xbx and the xbe anywhere you want to launch it from ( you can even throw it all in E:\dashboards\XDN\XDN Data ) and it'll run for ya. simple 'debugging': if it hangs on a black screen it is looking for one of the xbx's, either your path is wrong in the xbx or you added one too many '\'s (notice you only need one), if it reboots to dash on you it's most likely a bios issue. thx much for the feedback so far - and start scripting

peace

Oct 3 2004, 03:34 AM
Not really sure if this is a bug or if it's ment to happen, but when browsing my xbox's saved games and such, It won't show my xbox live downloads.
Also couldn't get it working when I had the xbx and xbe files on the C drive and the Xbox Dash Next folder in F:\Dashboards\XDN\Xbox Dash Next. Got it to work by just moving the xbe and xbx files to the XDN folder and then renaming to default.xbe though.

I am reading your latest post here Jb, and still no joy. I have tried everything to the root of the respective directory, and I changed the xbx to reflect that but nochange in output...
More than likely what you have stated...bios related...thx for the input...

Oct 3 2004, 05:13 AM
Try what the people that are succesfully getting it to work. put your data folder in the F drive nothing else and i think most people are forgetting to rename there xbe to default.xbe and not somehting else. Just put your data foler on the root of the f drive ane rename your xbe to deafualt and your all set, i dont even think you have to put your data folder in the F drive to make it work but its worth a try. Then agian it might just be a bios problem. Listen to what Jbone Is saying, hes the one who is making it or helping.

the ftp seems to work just fine when connecting from pc to xbox. i have just tried usin xboxftp to transfer files from the box runnin XDN...it created all the directories with np, but when it came time to transfer files from the XDN box to xboxftp box it stopped. there was no disconnect error, but the xbox runnin xboxftp froze. the box runnin XDN didnt flintch, or freeze. i dont know if its a one time thing, or a problem with xboxftp, but i will test this further. anyone care to try this out?

I've tried with X2 4981 and 4983. Double and triple checked to make sure that everything was in the right directory. Tried in every drive. Tried with XBMC, AVA, EVOX, Uleash, as Dash. Still the black screen or it hangs up in loading depending on the dash. My Xbox is a 1.0. Is there something else I should be listing? It doesn't look like it is the bios fault, might be for some poeple, but not everyone. Any Ideas?

Booker T, read the thread before posting. Jbone just said on the second page, as well as in the readme that those arent usable in this BETA release. Also, he said it, but I dont think its gotten across to most of the users that this is SCRIPTABLE so that means that you can edit you dashboard yourselves. This is a good thing! You can customize and modify this to suit your needs and post your code for others to use as well. The last tHc dash was a collaborative effort and this one will be too. Basically Jbone did the hard work of organizing all of this and getting the basics in and adding FTP. The least we can do is the easy work (script) and benefit each other. This was released early so that we could find the bugs and report them. This is going to be one hell of a dashboard when its done.

Jb0ne said it's either a config problem or a BIOS problem if you can't get it to run:
I tried all the possible drives and config steps, but I just don't seem to get it to run on an Evox M8 BIOS.
Could some people who got it to run post what BIOS they are using?
If someone could confirm if they got it to run on M8 I know the problem is here between the chair and the keyboard.
Thanks!

Oct 3 2004, 12:53 PM
Hmm.. I heard that if you try to load the .xbe and it loads back to your original dash you must just have an old bios. This is what is happening to me. I have a 1.6 xbox.. The only bios out for 1.6 is M8_16. So, I guess this means all xbox 1.6 users are shit out of luck on this beta bug release... right?

i personaly don't see how it could be bios related, what has been done to the dash that some bios's can't read ?.... I don't understand, any bios should work with this, the only thing stopping it from working that i can think of that would be bios related, would be the media fix.... and most bios's have that, the only other special things that new bios's have are things like , colour changing , igr , in built ftp and so on... none of that would effect the execution of an Xbe... Well, please correct me if i am wrong, because then again i know nothing about the bios's and how they work lol.

Ive tried 4977, 4981, 4979, 4976.02, 4983.....all work. Ive also tried it on a 1.1, 1.3, 1.4 xbox and all is ok. Its got to be a user issue or something else. Im betting on user error.....I will admit that it took me about 20mins to get it right because I kept goofin my path and didnt finish the extension. I kept doing F:\dashboards\XDN instead of F\dashboards\XDN\Xbox Dash Next, and refused for about 20mins to admit I was wrong until someone in the channel reminded me of that. Although we waited 6hrs from 11pm to 6am to get it so I'll chalk it up to being tired. Ok, now im just making excuses

*Ok im wrong. I dont know why it works for me but ive read too many comments from people that know a hell of a lot more about this stuff than I do and if they cant get it to boot then something is wrong. What I dont understand is how two people can have the exact same setup and still have a problem. There may be a bad file out there?

why would you try to prog patch it ? it's not the same xbe i doubt the patch would do anything good to it. i'll make prog scan an option in dash so no one has to try abusing their poor xbe ;P try it again without patching

Ok, after numerous attempts to get this dash to work i finally managed it..
It definately doesnt appear to be a bios problem.. definately either a minor bug with the icon code or something... had to install it on a completely clean hd without any games on it to get it to work..

Ok, looks worst than it actualy is.
I've only played whit it for 30min now and this is what I found most anoying.
First of all, the DashData.xbx doesn't seem to work 100%.I hadded a 5th menu inside the Hard Drive tab for a test and it didn't worked. The button never showed up and it made me have a look inside the Default.xip. I found the lines where the other "Dashboard","Games","Apps" and "Emulators" where and no other line seemed to be added from the entries of DashData.xbx. I'm going to try to manualy insert a new line but it will take a while to understand this coding.
(not cause its shitty, cause I'mn dumb

)
Other thing, if you press both tumbstick and get the screensaver, then open and close the control panel the main orb takes a wierd position.(very minor bug)
Also, I though the sound sheme was to be change.

Sound all the same in there.

First off I dont beleive all options in the xbx are still available , Ill wait for Jbone to confirm that .
