Has anyone gotten a wireless G adapter to work on Avalaunch?

I bought the Linksys Game adapter, was on tech support for 3 hrs, would only work on a non mod/soft mod system. Tried to go into MS dashboard, that wouldn't even see the wireless adatper, let alone configure an IP.

Should I get the MS xbox wireless adapter that MS makes or am I going to have the same problems?

I have a couple of friends who use the linksys adapter. No problems at all for them. But they never run the ms dash though.

Some people may find Linksys' tech support helpful, but I have yet to find one intelligent person there. As for your situation, have you tried using "logging" on the router and/or checking the DCHP clients table to see if the XBox is even requesting an IP address? It's possible you may have a faulty adapter. If your XBox works with a cat5 connection, it should work with that adapter.

here's the thing

I used the game adapter on a virgin xbox, it works great, no problems. I can have it work on auto, or manually config, it works.

when i plug it into the xbox that has somewhat of a softmod, it will not confirm IP in MS dash, or in Ava.

the adapter is not faulty for 2 reasons:
1) it works on a regular untouched xbox. I mean untouched is it doesnt have any hacks
2) I plugged the game adapter into my computer, and used it like a wireless internet adapter to surf the internet.

Anytime that i plug the linksys into the xbox with the mod on it. I give it EXACT info ip, subnet, gateway, and even dns...wont work.

Even when i just try and enable DHCP, to try and let it figure it out it says "No Link!"

I want to talk to your friends with the socalled linksys that they dont have problems for. Believe me, I spent a little over 3 hrs straight, trying to figure this out on my own ANd also with tech support.

Now, is there anyone out there that can give me specific instructions based on what i've already tried?

Alright :: tech support mode on ::

Ok sir, before we can come up with a solution, we need to find the source of the problem. Now, I have a few questions.

1) Does the XBox receive a link when using a patch cable instead of the wireless?
- Be sure to try this with the mod off, using the MS Dash as well.

2) Does your router have its DHCP server enabled?
- If not, are you sure that the static ip settings are correct?

3) Is your XBox close (within 20 feet) to your router?
- I know it's silly, but you want to make sure you're getting the strongest signal possible.

Please reply with answers to these questions so I may assist you further.

As for my personal opinion: If the game adapter works on on a virgin XBox, but doesn't work on your modded system with the mod disabled, there's something going on (or not going on) with the ethernet port on that XBox. I'm assuming that all you are doing is unplugging one XBox and plugging the other one. There is no change in the adapter, location, or router settings.

It works with a patch cable in avalaunch. I'm able to enable DHCP or use static info within ava and it connects just fine.
- My terminology is incorrect on mod. I say mod not for modchip, its basically a full software hack, the new type developed after the TSOP flashing, no soldering what so ever.

DHCP is enabled. I've also tried using dhcp on ava like I did when the patch cable work, but either static or dhcp did not work. I used the same static info when it worked for the patch cable

The Xbox is about 15 ft, and my wireless laptop is the same distance and it gets 5 of 5 bars in signal. Plus, I disabled the internal wireless on my laptop, plugged the game adapter in, used that as my new wireless adapter, new ip, and it works from the same distance.

I've tried every combination of the game adapter, keeping it on auto, or specifying its addresses, along with the xbox as well. I think there must be an issue because the game adapter needs its own IP address, separately from the xbox.

I'm now inclined to buy the brand name MS Xbox wireless adapter that xbox sells, but I'm afraid it's not solving my problem fully.

Very interesting. It may have something to do with the softmod. I'm not familiar enough with softmods and/or wireless resolution to troubleshoot this any farther. You're probably right in thinking that the MS Wireless Game Adapter will not solve your problem.

This does brings a couple questions:

For you: Have you tried downloading the lastest version of Ava from the usual places?

For Team Ava: Does Avalaunch use any "resources" that would be modified during the softmod process?

*edit*

Could you also point me to the documentation that you used to perform this softmod? I'd like to understand this process a little more.

If Avalaunch is launched through an MS dash hack, it might interfere with Avalaunch's network initialization just as launching Ava from Evox messes up our network initialization when Evox already has the network initialized...

Damn, what an insane sentence.

Ah yes. That would make sense. I won't be sure if this is the case if until I find out more about this softmod method. However, I'm not sure if EvoX suffers from the same network init problems that Ava does.

Try launching EvoX (as main dash or from Avalaunch) and see if you still have the same problems.

i've never done wireless on an xbox but i have had this same problem with an xbox that when we tried to ftp into it we couldnt and were blocked out even through we used the same soft mod on another xbox. the problem we ran into was the ip config in the evox ini file. i dont know very much about the other dashboard but you may want to look into the config file.

Im not an xpert at xbox networking.. but one thing i noticed you said you were getting "no link". I had the same problem with my xbox with an ethernet cable. no link doesnt have anything to do with tcp-ip at all. Its below the ip software and tcp-ip stack. There is no way for the xbox to request an ip or send packets to the router because the link hasnt been established and these can be caused by two things.

#1. Bad cable, hardware.. This isnt the issue in your case.
#2. The low level software that establishes the "link" isnt functioning properly.

My problem was with #2. I had to change the settings in my nic card from auto to 10-baseT ( I think that was it not sure ). This was a known problem with my specific nic card because auto-detect didnt work right with the driver I was using. You may consider exploring this further by trying to see if you can configure these types of settings in your router. I havent any experience with wireless routers so I dont know if this will apply to you.

I read that you say it works fine with a normal patch... If this is true then I doubt there is a problem with the softmod because this is a hardware issue... if it can establish a link with a patch it should be able to establish a link with a wireless adapter because the software is working there. I know you said that it worked previously with a virgin xbox but do you have one that you can test with now? Just to double check that it is in fact a problem with the xbox and not hardware. If you modded it with a larger harddrive and still have your retail drive unmodded swap it in and see if it works.

slackity hack jack i macked the frack while smoking crack.
