My buddy had me softmod his xbox for him..but I think I messed up big time.

It's a V1.0. I hotswapped it and attempted to install UDE 1...but I think I did something wrong. Anyways, it only booted MXM with the tray open. So I attempted again and this is where it turns to shit.

The xbox will get a service error screen, with no error #. Whether the tray is open, or closed.

I'm assuming the HDD is locked because I cannot hotswap to it.

Did I just mod my buddy's xbox into a paperweight?

You could alway's try using a modchip.

just go buy a cheapo mod chip

I just had the same thing happen to me. Only I istalled the UDE 2 package. Now I get the same error screen. I was however able to go in and try reinstalling the package but had the same results. Not sure where to go from here. I'm thinking of restoring the C drive to see if that fixes it. But I'm a little worried about messing it up anymore.

Any advice?

Ever happen to notice the softmod/exploit forum in xbox-scene?

This is why I don't like softmodding. Too many "beginners" think it will be easier to softmod rather than get a chip or TSOP and IMO, there is more you can screw up with a softmod. Of course it is fun when they eventually sell their xbox on ebay so someone else can get it cheap and fix in 10 min with a modchip and SlaYer's.
