My v1.0 Xbox is fragging then red/green red/green.... It has never been opened. I have read many posts on fragging and ppl say that it means it can't read the bios. Is it possible my bios could have been wiped? I can't see how if i haven't tampered with it. If it is still there then could it be a broken link to the bios?
Can anyone help? If anyone could send a pic of where the bios is. I'm thinking of opening it up to check for broken links.
Or if you have any other suggestions i would really appriciate it.

It's more likely that your eeprom is corrupt. The TSOP (holds the bios) isn't rewritable unless you open it and solder some points together.

How could it be corrupt if i haven't opened it? Is that possible?
If i solder some points together, would i be able to flash the original bios back in?
Can anyone show me where the eeprom is and what does TSOP stand for?

Your BIOS is not at fault. It is possible your EEPROM is corrupt, but you generally get a different color flashing LED when that happens.
Your Xbox may have just died from old age. Probably the MCPX (not replaceable).
It couldn't hurt to open up your Xbox and unplug then reseat all the cables.

The only reason i haven't opened it up is because i know MS won't touch it if i do. I'ts a bit of a gamble really, if i do open it up there could be no way of fixing it at all.
It's probably only worth me opening it up if i know what the problem could be. Thats why i'm on here.
So. When the EEPROM is currupt, you normally get an orange flash? There is definatly no orange. Just green & red.
Can anyone tell me what the EEPROM is/does?

If the EEPROM is currupt. How do i fix it?

You'd either need a 4th gen chip that can restore eeprom's, or a bios (Evox M7) with an embedded eeprom.
Also, if your warranty is expired, then chances are MS will charge you 100 dollars to fix it anyways.

I'm in the UK. Don't know what the charge could be.
Do you think installing a chip would solve my problem? If so, how?

It's probably not the EEPROM; I still think your Xbox died of old age. Since you're in the UK, and a "warranty" repair will cost you about $100 anyway, just open up the box and check the cables.
If it's not fixable, you can sell the parts individually. About $25 for the case, $30-50 for the DVD drive, and $20 for the motherboard and hard drive. Then just pony up an additional $50 and you have enough for a brand new Xbox.

Can i get it to work with a chip with eeprom on it? What chip is this?

20 for the mobo and harddrive? I've seen them on ebay for like 50 dollars or more. You could make up to 100 dollars if you played your cards right...
As far as a chip, well I can't guarantee it'll fix your box, but I'd recommend a Xenium ICE.

Thanks for the advice Trevante.

I think Perplexer just wants me to sell the parts to him for cheap.

MS said they'd charge me £78 to fix it (includes post & packing). They said if they can't fix it, they'd send me a brand new one.
It costs £100 for a brand spanker from the shops.
Would you gamble by opening it? or would you pay £78 for a garenteed working Xbox?

I think not. Did I ask or offer to buy ANYTHING from you? Shipping to the USA would be way too expensive anyway.
I'm just trying to give you some advice, but take it however you like. Realistically, you'll get $20 for a nonworking mobo. You might get more, but I was being conservative in the pricing.
It's been three days; grow some grapes and make a decision. We can't do it for you.

I'll never know if the mobo is working or not. I'll probably send it to MS

go ahead and send it in for £78, if they (M$) can't fix it they'll give you a free Xbox. Go for it, save yourself the headache.

Thanks for my answers darkplayer.
I have decided to try n mod my girlfriends xbox as hers works. In doing so, i messed up big time.
Do you know what that chip is above the D0 point?
I got solder between the tiny pins. Having trouble trying to get it out. Having failed installing the smartxx chip. The machine now frags with no chip. I think the stuck solder is causing it to frag.
I was wondering if i was to install the mod chip regardless of the machine fragging. Would the mod chip bypass the one that has solder stuck between it?
Help is much appriciated.
I'd like to add a pic of this to show you what i mean, if i knew how.

Try using a magnifying glass/or glasses to get a better view of solder between the pins. Just a little solder can screw up the whole system.

Oh well! My 2nd Xbox is well and truely fucked!
Tried to get the solder out of the TSOP pins with desolder braid and broke one of the pins.
I had the Smartxx chip in with red & blue light on but it still fragged. I though the smartxx chip would use its own TSOP.
There is no way of fixing it now. I give in after buying:- a second hand Xbox, soldering iron, solder adaptors, solder, desolder braid, flux, conductive pen, Smartxx chip. Oh, and loads of time and stress.
Total cost not including first broken Xbox (which wasn't my fault) = £150
What a total waste. If only you knew how pissed off i am.
Thank you for your help anyway.
I'm sure i'll be back when i mess up my next Xbox.

Oh...I just read your email,

, you need skillz to fix that. Might as well sell it off and let someone slavage the board for parts. I feel your pain.
Just sell off your non-working MB/HDD as a combo & buy another working MB/HDD. Make sure the new MB/HDD is compatible w/ your power supply.

should of used the do point down at the bottom of the box, its much easier and bigger. do give up, on my box i messed up my softmod, burnt my mobo, bought a new mobo with no matching hd, bought an x3 and had to pull out my old eeprom and swap them, and after all of this my harddrive crapped out destroying my eeprom, but i had everything backed up so the joke it on them lol. my box will never destroy me hahahahah.
