switching video modes is not necessary/recommended when you want to play import games. switching video modes might disable you from getting video on your TV if it doesn't support that particular mode.
ie: if you have an NTSC TV and play a PAL game, don't switch the video mode since most NTSC TVs don't support the PAL video mode.
